J is my family. He has a method to his Madness. There's very few who would get it though. It's ironic that J is looked upon in many eyes as possibly the greatest unsung without an official album when J has actually told me that the greatest lyricist he ever heard was a virtually unknown artist named Born Understanding ( a fellow 5%) who went by the stage name "Unda the Influence" from a town called Willingboro out in Jersey. It's funny to me cuz nobody used the term the G.O.A.T. until a movie came out about the supposed greatest basketball player that ever lived ( said to be way better than Michael Jordan ) and never played in the NBA. Now you're creating a discussion about an artist with no album possibly being the greatest of all time and he credits that to an unsigned artist who nobody else has probably heard of.

@@kagerjvi345 not sure what arbitrarily makes any rapper "better", aside from practicing and perfecting their linguistic craft, but it is definitely pointless to consider any artist "better" because of their high quantity of music. Especially since quantity does not equal quality. I mean, does it really bother you that much that there is one song on the album that was recorded 10 years ago? Are hip hop fans really this petty? Honestly, I could care less how long it took for the release. I do know that this one album is quality product. Couldn't skip a track, even Shiny Suit. Everybody has their opinion, though. There are many "better" rappers with miles of content, but for some reason, we aren't talking about any of their music.
@kagerjvi3454 жыл бұрын
@@sEdJ1281 how is waiting a decade for an album where a portion of the music is a decade old and being upset being petty? There are better rappers who put work out at a way faster pace. They are currently recognized publically as the the best of the bunch. Jay kind of dropped the ball on that hiatus
@sEdJ12814 жыл бұрын
@@kagerjvi345 not liking an album because of a 10 year wait and one familiar song? Sounds pretty petty to me. And, again, if your argument is that a rapper is "better" because they produce more music at a faster pace, then it doesn't sound like you actually give a damn about anyone's music. I'm serious, what truly makes a rapper "better"? You can put out 10 albums in 10 years, but if no one's listening, it's probably because its content is trash. Like I said, we on here talking about this one album, but none of these "better" rappers with a larger discography are keeping our attention.

Here's my theory on Jay Electronica: he is a super perfectionist and also very self conscious about his music. A lot of rappers say their music is art, but for him it really is. His debut album had so much hype, and he set such a high bar for himself, that he decided not to release it and instead just releases solo tracks. Even though he has 0 albums, if you measure his catalogue by masterpiece songs, he still has a catalogue longer than most rappers. As a Jay Electronica fan since Fight Night Round 4, it made me hella mad that his first mainstream verse on control had to get wrapped up in all that Kendrick mess. As a Jay fan i had listened to him all thru high school and people wud never kno who he was or mention him or nothing. I will never forget Big Sean dropped control summer 2013 my senior year of high school. In my mind after all those years Jay was finally gonna get some shine and i wud be able to brag like a hipster about being his first supporter. I didnt count on how stupid people are to get all mesmerized over simple name drops that arent even disses but in this era if u say someones name on a track they automatically say its a diss. Needless to say the next day all everyone in real life and the internet cud talk about was Kendricks verse and how he did the best and y wud Big Sean let him on the track blah blah blah. Fast forward to today i still revisit control from time to time out of curiosity to check the comments and see if people have changed their minds on who had the best verse since all the frenzy has worn off, but to my disappointment all i see are jokes about how they still dont even realize there is a third verse. So maddening i had to go on this long rant u can see how it annoys me even today lol
@seandafny5 жыл бұрын
Long story short, i agree that Jay had the best verse. I wud also go so far as to say Kendrick had the worst, though its nowhere near bad but he didnt really outshine anyone lyrically. I dont count name dropping as outshining like Big Sean said not because im name dropping hall of fame dropping.
