Jay Electronica swept onto the hip-hop scene in a wave of enigma. The effect of his quirky, emotional sound was compounded by the erratic methods of its release, drifting out unannounced via the internet. The MySpace leak of “Act 1: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge),” a 15-minute opus laced with movie samples and beatless film soundtracks, represented the beginning of an astounding surge of interest in both the man and his music back in 2007.
Since then, the New Orleans-born MC and producer has garnered heavy support from everybody from Nas to Gilles Peterson, and has worked heavily with soulslinger Just Blaze, dropping two instant neo-backpack classics, “Exhibit A” and “Exhibit C.” He also partnered with New York-based “idea studio” Decon, working on his debut album as well as a video project with label founder Jason Goldwatch, and built more anticipation around his “Act II” track than the rest of hip-hop's class of ’10 combined.

6:35 - New Orleans
15:36 - Detroit and Dilla

I've heard somewhere that people with stutters usually have a mind that works faster than they're able to speak or something like that. So they're essentially trying to get all these statements or ideas out at the same time because they have so much in their minds.

Jay def wakes up the people. I love his wrk when he drops. Even tho he didn’t drop much before he signed with hov but now after it’s like his shit is controlled and the album we all want will never come. The album between the two was good but I have to admit that should’ve been only jay. Should’ve stayed independent and just put the world on... its like they told hov to go get him

I would love to know how he is able to support himself off of just one mixtape and a couple songs. It is not like he is Frankie Beverly and Maze.

hes been signed to roc nation for over a decade. jayz most likely has givin him a stipend and let him do his thing. Also hes done a handful of features over the years.

Cameron Skidmore Dude we are talking years?! He makes less features then 3 Stacks. It would be dope if he was on MF Doom ish and drop a project here and there. Life is expensive!! Well I hope however he is doing his thing, he does not end up wash up at the end financial. This music game is serious.

nomad: I hear you. But the music industry is not what it was. That might get you by....but living is expensive. Hopefully this album will update his profile even more. Being an artist is hard, even when you are known. Just ask Jeru da damaja.

I truly innerstand the interviewers frustration and the look on his face after trying to innerstand the way in which his guest speaks repeating almost every word he says. Jay seems to be on a very unique intellitual level than most rappers and I'm willing to bet that if he finds someone to help him speak to large crowds it would allow him to become comfortable after a few minutes of speaking. He's definitely a different kind of gem that the world needs considering all of the garbage music out there today. I just hope he becomes a successful conspiracy theory rapper because nothing he raps about are conspiracies it's the truth hidden behind that term that was created by those who would like for ppl to discredit ppl like Jay when he speaks about the secret evil doings of those ppl.
