It's much better that Frieza destroyed Planet Vegeta because he was afraid of the possibility of a Super Saiyan, and him destroying Planet Vegeta caused a domino effect leading to the very thing he was terrified of becoming true.

34:20 no need to worry, their entire planet was blown up by Frieza after he called back every Saiyan there was Except Vegeta, Nappa and Raditz ignored that order, and low level warriors(which is decided by the power level they have by birth) such as Goku simply didn't receive the return order The reason Frieza decided to exterminate the Saiyan race was because an oracle said the "legendary super saiyan" (which was a legend in the Saiyan race) would kill him, so as a precaution he decided to kill half of his army (literally half of the power of his army at that point in time was just the Saiyans fighting) Edit: right also, Saiyans as a fighting race would often send their babies to underdeveloped planets to dominate the native race that live in there, which worked, because they did it a lot, and Goku's dad decided to launch Goku to Earth, a low power low tech planet that would be safe even for a low tier fighter such as Goku, Goku was then taken in by Grandpa Gohan(which goku named his own child after) and started his adventure from there that is the reason Goku survived his race's destruction

Basically some answers to your questions: Sayians are a alien race, basically Humans with monkey tails The reason why you wanna call Vegeta "Vegetable", is because, all Sayians are named after vegetables. Goku, whose Sayian name is Kakarot, is named after a Carrot, and Vegeta, being the prince/king of all Sayians, is named after "Vegetable."

Also 'Sorbet' in Super. Frieza's _own family_ just has names related to _cold things:_ Frieza, Cooler (brother), Chill (Ancestor), King Cold (Father), even an alternate universe counterpart was named _Frost!_ Most "factions" have such a naming scheme, but you get the idea.
