For Grip when pulling my boat out I used Crusher dust, / sand with small broken gravel. The weight in the back helps and a small amount under the wheels for grip. Plus it sticks to the Foot ware, thus less chance of going DOWN. Cheers from Chch, New Zealand.

I can't take it. I am laughing so hard. Snakes, ducks, Fred. What a Chit Show. I took my wife to Tahiti for an anniversary. She had a brand new white outfit. Blouse, shorts the whole nine yards. Wind was gusting around 45 mph when this bird took a Chit - splat all over her outfit. She was madder than a hornet. We had to go back to hut for her to change her outfit. I was in real trouble for laughing at that one. Love you alfred.

Every time I think about splurging my hard-earned money on a small boat, I watch Alfred's channel and get cold feet instantly. I am NOT sharing the waters with these insane people, especially the one Alfred calls "the crusher." That fool tried to come into the ramp and crashed into TWO other boats. He is in his very early 30s and drives a massive yacht. He always has sunglasses and his telltale sign: his baseball cap is always on backwards. Alfred spotted "the crusher" a long time before he got close to the loading ramp.

Exciting Episode! This is like the scene from Jaws where they were paying a $500.00 bounty for sharks! Two observations- look at the palm trees - this will give you wind direction the wind was pushing the boats to the right so try to dock that way- use the wind. In my time (I'm in my 60s) people did not own such large boats - you have 22 footers and 30 footers coming in those boats are long. We only had a 16 foot boat!

I also get confused when hearing 'going in' vs 'going out'.. Either one could mean either way. I always think "Launching" vs. "Recovery" may sound a bit military, but it is more clear.. Alfred, thanks to you and your gear for braving the elements
@kazoosc2 жыл бұрын
ports/harbors/boat launches are where land meets the water .. one goes out to sea, you're "taking the boat out" for a day on the water -- these are common phrases .. and at the end of the day, or the trip, you go in -- back to the land, the launch, your dock

As an operator, if you are moving with conditions (tide and wind behind you), prior to maneuvering into position on the dock, simply keep your vessel straight, bump into reverse to bring your vessel to a stop, then maneuver into position on the dock. In the conditions present in this video at Black Point, you'd want to come to a stop, spin so you are slightly at an angle with your bow away from the windward side of the dock, then bump it forward (slowly) and the wind will gently bring you into the dock (you'll want fenders out). PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE (with fenders out on all sides).
@traceye.64282 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you! Although, it seems there are more inexperienced boaters here, with lots of money and big boats. They should have spent some money on lessons instead. I bet if they read your comment, they sadly wouldn’t understand a word you’ve said. And, I agree 100% with fenders. I had asked why no one seems to use them. Where we are, everyone uses fenders when they dock. We pull them out when leaving the dock and put them back out before docking. Have a great day!

We know you can get serious storms over there, so no wonder people were panicking to get ashore. Strangely though, although these boats are very modern by my old standards with a lot of high-tech equipment, most of them were open boats and not one waterproof cover for open areas. Just out of interest, have you thought of getting one of those fishermen's tents as well as your umbrella? That would keep all your equipment dry
@toddgardner84492 жыл бұрын
I learned a long time ago to wait this out on the hook. There will be some bumped and banged up boats at the dock, but the real danger is all these people were doing 40mph to funnel into the marina. Get wet and listen to your bilge pump run for 20 minuites.
