Haulover Inlet in Florida is a popular spot for experienced boaters seeking a thrill. Known for its challenging conditions and strong currents, the inlet connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Intracoastal Waterway and is famous for its rough waves and strong winds, which can make boating hazardous. Despite the risks, many boaters are drawn to the inlet's challenging conditions and the opportunity to navigate through it.

This video shows how fragile life is, and in a second, everything can change for the worse. Our purpose in showing this content is to raise awareness among people whenever they're on a boat, to stay ALERT (Avoid consuming drugs and alcohol, use PFDs etc). Captains must be aware of their passengers, especially in such high-traffic areas like Miami, to prevent accidents that can cost lives. STAY SAFE ON THE WATER !!

Thank you for sharing the video, As retired Coast Guard, this shows how important it is to brief your crew and passengers on operations of boat safety. My heart and prayers goes out to the family of this young lady. If you notice in video no one deployed a life saving device such as a life ring. One boat even had life jackets hanging on the stern. If the Captain of this vessel was operating an illegel charter he is facing many years in prison only to make a few quick bucks. So sad!

Prayers to everyone involved and I hope the man survived. I’ve got to give credit when credit is due. Miami First responders did an amazing job here. The guy went under water and did not resurface at 3:33PM and the dive team had him resurfaced at 3:53PM. Only 20 minutes is astonishing to me. Put it into context from the 911 call, to help responding, to getting crews into the water, and considering the waters in the rivers are murky, water current, boat traffic, etc… To find him in 20 minutes is amazing.

UPDATE Days after a 23-year-old drowned in the Miami River, his friends are still trying to understand the tragedy. According to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials, it was around 3:30 p.m. Sunday when Trevonte Johnson, or Vonn, as his friends called him, fell into the water near the mouth of the Miami River from a chartered boat. Several people tried to rescue him but couldn’t. Vonn was unresponsive when divers found him at the bottom of the river on Monday. One of the victim’s friends told NBC6 he was hesitant to take the trip to Miami and now they’re wishing he never did.

An experienced lifeguard in that situation would probably be the difference between life and death. The man's arms appeared outstretched to his side and flailing inefficiently along with the rapid disappearance of the man underwater would indicate he was panicking and a untrained swimmer could find themselves in the same situation with two instead of one drowning. You need to be trained in the approach and rescue of a panicking person.

As an ex-RNLI lifeboat crew, this was distressing too, why didn't no one come to his aid from the boat to the right past there were 4-5 looking down at him, and the same all around, and why did boats keep motoring over the spot where the 2 divers were looking for him!
@virtualmartijn
@virtualmartijn 2 ай бұрын
@@hardergamerMaybe they could not swim either. Or they would know that if you are not a strong swimmer then the drowning victim will just clamp on and then there would be two people drowning. What is amazing is why nobody threw out at least a lifebuoy or some sort of floatation device.

You mean the women waiving? The person had just fallen into the water, and there was no reason to believe they were going to drown. They were 1st yelling at the offending vessel to tell them someone fell off of their boat, then another boat that was approaching the person in the water as they did not want them to hit them. With the chaos, it does not show how this person fell off, and who knows what was going on. In that regard, you can't judge the women in this boat. I'm confident they likely had no idea this was going to result in a drowning.

From Local10 News (March 19, 2024): "MIAMI - Authorities identified a man whose body was found in the Miami River near the Brickell Avenue bridge over the weekend. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Trevonte C. Johnson, 23, of Coila, Mississippi, fell off of a chartered boat at around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. “Several (people) jumped into the water from various vessels and locations in an attempt to rescue the victim, but were unsuccessful,” an FWC report states. Officials said Miami Fire Rescue personnel recovered Johnson’s body from the bottom of the river. “They subsequently provided CPR, but were unable to revive him,” the report states. “He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.” Johnson was with five other friends visiting South Florida from the Magnolia State, according to FWC. Authorities believe his fall was accidental. The report states that it’s unclear whether alcohol was a factor."

The LAST thing you want in this situation is "more people in the water." The bigger problem was that NOBODY had a PFD or Life-Ring or any other flotation device to throw to him when he was still struggling on the surface. And yeah.....it happens just that fast. 30 years ago we were at Lake Powell on a houseboat, with a 24' ski boat and 4 jet skis. We heard a man overboard distress call from a boat down channel. We used the ski boat and jet skis to offer assistance. We were the 2nd boat on scene, a man had jumped off the top of another houseboat and did not come back up (father of the family on board the other houseboat). We used our fish sonar and a surface search to look for the guy, until Search / Rescue arrived. He was not wearing a life vest when he went overboard and he was never found.

The worst part of all is every vessel is required to have a the very minimum one throwable floatation device. By my count there should have been at least 4 in the water when the guy first went in. What a shame people aren’t more educated on the safety aspect of boating. This tragedy was 1000% preventable. For anyone reading this comment, if you’re a boater in Florida or anywhere else in the world, for your own safety and the safety of those around you, please keep all of your safety equipment on board and know how and when to use it. So when something like this happens and you’re the only one available to help, you may just be ready to save someone else’s life. Prayers to the family of the deceased.

A new lake had opened up in Texas , swimming was allowed. I was with my neighbor and went swimming in this new lake. I heard a woman yelling in spanish saying " my son, my son'' He went under water and didn't come back up. At that time there were no cell phones so I rode my bike to the amusement park and told them to call police. I saw the young boy when they pulled him out, his lips were blue. He did not make it. It was the worst day of my young life. What I noticed about this new lake was if you stood too long on the bottom your feet would get stuck as it was thick clay mud. The lake was closed to swimming permanently. I am 70 now and still remember it like it was today.

Too many individuals are more concerned about drinking/partying with their friends than being concerned about the dangers and what could indeed happen. Drinking and driving a vehicle is illegal, it goes the same way when you’re on a watercraft, or should I say “it should go the same way”. Im a sailing instrctor for almost 25 years now, manly working on the local lakes here in austria. There has not been a year without a drowning incident close enough to my location that i and my students where able to witness the rescue efforts. Lots of realy heartbreaking incidents quite often with young fit folks that just slip beneath the surface never to be seen alive again. One time a 16 year old drownd after a party and i later found out that that i saild right across the location where his body was later found, while trying to stay out of the way of the search party. The water was only 15 feet deep there.... on a calm day one would have been able to see his body from the surface. A nother time a young guy, 22 or so, from Britain drownd while taking one last swim with his girlfriend befor heading home from there first travel together. He just went down in silence about 100 feet from shore. I was about 200 yards away with my group when it happened. All of a sudden the whole area wa filled with helicopters and search boats as well as ambulances and patrol cars on shore. Sirens everywhere. It happened so quickly and ins silence that most people only then noticed what had just happened. There car was already packed up with there luggage and the two of them wanted to leave for home half an hour later. The perished guys girlfriend came home alone.... it breaks your hard to even think of it. Once a lady was sucked into the propeller of a reversing ferry boat, head first, while here tottler was playing at the beach. That happened right in front of our station on shore. These are just the ones that haunt me to this day. I have not been in the water swiming for fun in years, although i'm a decent swimmer..... I'm boating a lot, on our lakes and at sea, but beeing in the water for fun does no longer appeal to me. Stay save out there and take care....

Should be mandatory life vest worn in that zone because of the current with heavy boat traffic, just maybe then someone could have jumped into the waters and saved a life possibly. Such a tragedy, my prayers for everyone involved and family

Everybody kill me with their opinions, all the experience swimmers were in the water. Jumping in the water as rough as that water was if you’re not an experienced swimmer? and I don’t believe people just stood by watching that were confident that they could help.

Just around the corner at Haulover Sandbar I was in my dinghy and I noticed someone drowning. He had fallen off a boat and was intoxicated and if I wasn't there he would have drowned. I grabbed ahold of him and took him back to the boat that he fell out of and his friends didn't even notice he was missing. No one thanked me, but I didn't care. I was just glad I had saved a life that day. He probably doesn't even remember it.

No one should ever be on a boat without a life jacket on , even if you know how to swim anything can happen especially kids. God bless that man. Amen 🙏
