I bought a 20' sweetwater with a 40hp mercury it has the same trailer you have and I hate it . the toon is great but the trailer will tip if you don't pay attention . seafoam is a good idea also check and change the oil in your lower unit . great project man enjoy it

Those trailers were a great idea, until they were actually used. Maybe he only has to go a handful of miles to his ramp.

It should really only be used very locally. I dont think they were ever intended to be more than yard trailers. My daughter found out the expensive way when her and her husband tried to take one 300 miles.

@@curtis6554 I live in a community 5 miles from a tiny town. We're at a river boat ramp and decent sized park. There's probably 10-12 pontoons in yards with about half having 1 of these as an extra trailer they deleted when they bought the pontoon. I've seen a couple of jon boat trailers that were built out of these type of trailers.

Congrats on your pontoon boat ! I picked up a Lowe 185 (18' 9") last year and the floor had soft spots, which I knew about going in. Had to strip it down to the fishbone and replace the deck and the carpeting, then throw out the rotten furniture and make my own including the console.. Lots of learning along the way, even replaced the 2 stroke engine with a used 4 stroke (Honda) and had to do lots of rebuilding and refreshing on that. Since I'm doing it 100% on my own it has taken time and is nearly finished. Had to walk away from it a few times to maintain sanity. And yes I am a retired grandpa. If you need some advice, feel free to ask.

My 2021 pontoon is 18 ft. With a 16 ft deck and 50 hp 4 stroke. The size is perfect for getting into spots you wouldn't otherwise see. It'll go places a tiny boat will go only with much more usabke space. You chose the perfect size boat. It'll do anything. Almost.

I'll bet a wire wheel on a drill will finish removing the adhesive from the plywood, which will also fuzz up the wood enough to give you great adhesion for the new carpet you put down on it. That's gonna be a sharp looking pontoon boat when it's all said and done. The Seafoam and Lucas... good stuff. That's why that puppy barks to life when you touch the key, clean fuel system.

@@davecfishing7907 If you're going to buy 24 bottles this year, just get it all at once along with maybe a discount. Growing up on a farm everything non-degradable was bought in bulk, be used eventually. 5 gal of oil is far cheaper than 20 qts-etc.

Ya know... we all laugh at people with Poontang boats, here on a tidal river, sound in the North Atlantic with NONE or perhaps 2 or 3 poontang boats. But the older one gets, it ain't about the "ride", it's about the adventure.
