Giant Barge Removes Burned Yacht out of Biscayne Bay (Tow Boat Miami)

While filming the Chit Show at BlackPointMarina many boaters came to the boat ramps and told me a giant fire was happening in Biscayne Bay. Looks like a 50 foot yacht burned to the ocean floor and had to be refloated. The Team at Tow Boat Miami was able to resurface the sunk yacht and had Kearns Construction bring a giant barge and crane to remove it from the oceans floor.
The operation was done at Herbert Hoover Marina in Homestead Florida. The footage of them getting through the channel was simply epic.
My name is Alfred Montaner Host of the Chit Show

Love your channel as I’m a retired 100 ton Master of Oceans. The crane is an 85 ton madel. Certainly large enough for the burnt hulk. By the way … the anchor thingys are called “spuds” as it is a spud barge. Keep them coming, as each day I”Wait for it”

No problem anchoring, just drop a piling down and your anchored. Those tall pilings go up and down, so the crane is supported immediately.

Those weren't straps to lift it, they were oil absorbers placed around the boat when it was in the water to contain any oil or diesel that spilled into water. when they lifted the boat they took the out with it. I like the long version and can fast forward as I like, thanks for the footage..

How would you expect a guy that claims to be interested in the environment, keeping the waters clean, and makes his living bla bla blaing about boats at the water's edge to know the first thing about fuel floating on water , or how these minor spills are contained ? All we gotta know is how scary a simple lift looks to him and how gigantic a standard barge appears to him. Well maybe it is also important to know that he knows nothing about the weight of the boat or the capacity of the crane, even though he directly engaged a key guy that would have been happy to inform him. Fucking drama queen.

I don't know the geography round there, but if it is not far from Black Point Marina, I would imagine that the Manitou and Fred The Croc would not be too pleased about that. Its such a shame that a boat that size lost it's life. Thanks for showing us.

This is a fascinating video! Yes, please do an interview with the owner of the company! I agree that these guys are really doing a great service. I suggest that people go to youtube and look up Adventures With Purpose. These guys travel the U.S. and remove vehicles from waterways but in the process they find missing people and have solved some missing persons cold cases that have been many years old. I am not trying to push another channel in this comment section, but I did not realize that all of this stuff has been going on in our water. I look at things much differently since then. Our waters are not clean and healthy and I really feel that it needs to seriously be addressed.

In my younger days I worked building bridges from Homestead up to West Palm, all this work is very much like what I used to do. Picking up heavy things and putting them in the right places, it's simple but complex. Understanding how a crane works it is very interesting to watch this salvage operation. I wish we could've seen them take the boat out of the water, that would have been cool. One other thing, your video of the tug boats working the Miami River was epic. Those guys amaze me, I worked on the Cen Trust tower (now it's the Miami Tower) in down town Miami and used to watch them work the big ships through the turns under the bridges from a birds eye view. It was cool to see it from the perspective of the Captain, so nonchalant as he maneuvered within inches of the sea wall. Good job Alfred.

You're not lying about Capt Rodney being a beast! Indeed as well done as you indicated. One question Bro? In an event such as this, could you also do an abbreviated or fastplay version for those of us who normally wouldn't spend this much time watching this all the way through (though I did on this one)? Only a suggestion Bro. Not criticizing. Great job to you as well for doing YOUR JOB and staying a safe distance from them doing theirs. That was impressive too. Safety Knows No Quitting Time!

I didn't read any comments but those big pipes on the barge are called "SPUDS" The crane operator picks them up and rigger will pull the pin holding it up so they can drop the spud into the bottom. The spuds hold the barge in place.

Dear Alfred, maybe someday you took us to some boats junk yards. I wonder how many there is in Florida. It is interesting to see junked boats which some would be salvageable, others may have tons of parts that many boaters would purchase from junkyards, just like cars. For instance, this burned yacht's engine I believe is in good condition, and the propeller looks good Lool. As you suggested the idea of converting it to giant rib boat, I came with an idea that someone could make it a swimming pool Looool. I could imagine that the fees of that giant towing boat including the loading and unloading in such a case costs about $ 4 to 5 k if not more, add to that the truck's fees. Take care and enjoy your time.
