Ever wonder how the shipyards do barnicle removal? Here in South Florida one of the major shipyards on the Miami river is hurricane Marina. I was lucky enough to see them do the entire process of how to remove barnacles when they are so extreme.

It is amaizing how this kind of plague affects vessel's performance, both in speed reduction and fuel cunsumption increese. It also depends on the anti fouling hull painting applied, either for fresh or salt water, for cold or warm zones. If it is an improper anti fouling, barnacles or mussels will grow few weeks. And to blast the hull, must use protective glasses, wich is not the presente case.

Outside of the USA you can get really effective anti fouling. We joke that if a small fish swims by it will go belly up, dead. Arsenic, DDT, and mecury are quite effective ingredients..... but eventually were BANNED in the USA and EU. Turd World countries and islands tend to use really toxic but cheap and effective anti fouling paint.

Id say i work on boats for a living. But i also could be a 10 year old kid so who knows. But i will tell you. And its your choice to believe. But all motor boats are a nightmare. Most are not even engineered to be disassembled. And to make things worse offten critical components of the engine operation system are completely in accessible. For example on mercurys cool fuel 2 system. You gotta remove the hole engine just to access the fuel pump. And volvos the ones on that boat... The gimble bearings corode and jam the outdrive to the transome assembly making them literally impossable to get off. Offten if the old yank the fuck out of it with a fork lift doesint work. We have to replace the hole transom mount...

I kept my wooden boat on the upper Thames in the UK, this is the fresh water section. Trip down river into the brackish would attack any growth. Trip out to sea would polish the hull and the speed against revs would show this. Time in harbors and barnacle bill would come calling, but by the time I'm back on the upper Thames those have fallen off. I then kept the boat in Holland and over wintered in a temp controlled shed, the boats would be jet washed when lifted out. the wash off would be collected in tank and disposed of carefully. This was the mussel growing area in the south of the Netherlands, in the spring a coat of anti foul and she would be dropped back in.
