After I came out of the Forces, I spent 35 years in Ship Repair Yards on the Tyne and have seen a lot of really big blasting jobs. Yet I still watched this vid to the end. There is something about blasting that is enjoyable to watch.👍👍

Nice job Mick. The boatyard should have cut those rubbing strakes off before you blasted it. Welded every couple of feet and only along the top is very old fashioned and a recipe for disaster, it harbours rust from day one and underneath them is probably the deepest pitting.

Sorry but he is an independent contractor…you are overlooking maintenance on the compressors, maintaining material levels and a facility to bring the set up to the job…then comes the bloody paperwork, taxes, maintenance of the wife and family…much more than directing the blast media at the work surface…add to that he’s probably humping 60+ hours a week and not getting overtime pay….sorry to rant but this guy is a stud…

Might be a silly question but here goes.... Often seen, what I can only describe, as "sparks" flying off with the paint and crud as you are blasting. Are they sparks or just debris glinting in the light?

Yeah they will be sparks it causes a lot of friction they are classified as cold sparks and won't course a flame 👍

@@Mobileblaster what I mean is that instead of going like this top to bottom or left-right stripes/lines that look satisfying it actually takes longer and uses more abrasive. You should constantly wave it with a short sweeping motion or like a small circle. Don’t know how to explain it better😊 this way you can tell sooner that the area is already clean and save a considerable amount of time and material, and depending on what is the goal - on top of better efficiency it’s easier to achieve an SA 2 1/2, which in my experience is most common requirement. I’m doing sandblasting and painting for close to a decade now, been learning from the best and experimented a lot 😊 thats my 2 cents, sorry if I bothered you 🙃

Awful to see that the sacrificial rubbing band has only been welded every 2ft or so. probably means no welding to the bottom edge. i'm guessing that even with 2k blacking, it will be showing rust, within 12 months.

I've never seen one done up to look like an actual modern boat. And most have older style interiors too.
