Great video as always. I def love the new angle with someone recording you too lol, I just did a replacement on a Subaru today and your tips for the clips will def come in handy on my next one! I learn a lot from your videos so can't wait for the next one! Also do you just do windshields or do you also do door glass or back glass?

Outstanding video! My daughter has a 2020 Subaru Forester whose windshield cracked while parked ( a very common problem with certain Subaru's due to a design flaw with the new Eyesite glass). I took it in to Safelite, who hopefully uses better thicker glass! The day after the replacement I noticed the windshield cowl was buckled up about 1/2" in the middle so I took it back to Satellite. The tech told me the metal clips were bent and he straightened them out, which I realized after watching your video was a lie! The next day the cowl buckled again so after watching your video I removed the cowl and saw that the 1/2" plastic tabs on the cowl that slip underneath the windshield to hold it tight against the glass were too short in the middle due to the windshield being placed too high or the windshield made too short or the cowl not being installed correctly. I did find that Satellite only secured one of the plastic clips that hold the cowl in place! I cut some 3/4" wide aluminum strips from a beer can and wrapped them around the middle tabs on the cowl and crimped them with needle nose pliers and wrapped them with black electrical tape. After reinstalling the cowl correctly per your video the windshield and cowl look great! Mil Gracias!

I'm not a pro, but have had to have the windshield replaced on my 2018 Forester. If only the shop that did the work was as experienced and knowledgable as you... The trim on the lower windshield corners is now very loose and rattling. Your video showed me how to remove the trim pieces and examine. This is an excellent video, very comprehensive. If I was 1000 miles south I would have you replace my windshield. Plus you seem like a great guy. Thanks! Ian, Portland, OR

Top Job mate! Thanks for the tip for those square clips. Little tip from the UK. If you have a cowl (we call it a scuttle) that slides under the glass. Clean the track where it slides under with glass cleaner and a brush. Because grit or dirt can cause micro scratches on the glass as you slide it on. Which can result in a stress crack. This is why Nissan put tape on the bottom of the glass sometimes. Hey hope this helps. Love your work.

@@AlfredosAutoGlassRepairCorona You could also try using a cold knife blade or something similar and come from underneath, then insert the blade to open up the white part enough to release a bit, and then get the pigsfoot to seperate the square clips from the white part [with care], seems to work for me. Another question, the technician didn't put the wire harness cover back on, and it's hard to see in your video when you do it. The wire is coming out of the bottom of the mirror. How do I put it inside the cover before I push it in place, there's no gap in the cover for the wire not to get pinched against the windshield. Thanks!

Alfredo, if only every shop were as diligent as you. Respect. Thanks for the great video. A question for you: These Foresters come with some type of rubber sealing strip under/around the perimeter of the original windshield. I imagine that was part of what you scraped away in your video here, but I didn't see you apply a new rubber strip of any kind before setting the new windshield. I noticed the primer and then the resin. Is such a thing not necessary because of the resin application? Or do new windshields come with such strips already attached and it went on when you set the windshield in? Thanks again.

Curtis Ramsey welcome to this trade. I use my Raptor and Spyder very often now on days because there’s are a lot of exposed glass installation or underside molding with no room to us a blade. I prefer using methods that won’t damage the vehicles vs fast methods that have a high chance of damaging the vehicle. I still use the cold knife though not often but I do.

@Jp_19845 жыл бұрын
Its common in the industry to leave the mirror plugged in , especially if it has a garage door opener because you can loose the programing. Or a compass will sometimes need to recalibrate. Might be okay if its just auto dimming but you could end up with code none the less
@pacdogk91345 жыл бұрын
Damn no offense but you made this install a lot harder than it needs to be and you should never use a metal tool on the outside of the cowling. (When you were prying up the cowl corner pieces). Those Subaru clips come up easy with the 6 mil on all but 2, then you can use a pic tool for the other 2. And the 2 outside clips should’ve been a simple pry up the middle and pry out the clip. No twisting a screwdriver necessary.
@AlfredosAutoGlassRepairCorona5 жыл бұрын

Ignorantly, I just had a DOT-563 installed in my 2015 Subaru Outack (FW 03919) that was total crap. DOT563 SHENZHEN AUTOMOTIVE GLASS MANUFACTURING, sold at Aliexpress for $32. Seems the 563 factory makes XYG, PGW, and most likely others. Total garbage. My car isn't drivable because the distortions are so severe in the glass. ALL installers know dot563 is no good. they still carry it because it is the cheapest glass you can find, cheaper even than other Chinese dot459, dot485, dot788... you get what you pay for. So simple. Best way to do is buy a OEM used for $150. Before buying make sure it is OEM by checking the dot number at Car Windshields - DOT Number Database. www.carwindshields.info/dot_db Clean with razor blade the old urethane, and prime the glass with windshield urethane primer. Hire someone to install the OEM windshield for around $100
