We visited the popular cavern on the island of Terceira called Algar do Carvao. This once volcanic area was instrumental in the creation of the island. Now a tourist hotspot, this cavern is a great way to explore under the surface of the island and an even better place to learn more about how Earth works. We took a self guided tour with Ruben and David to see the Island for ourselves and shot footage to show you what the cave is like.

I was just looking through some old pictures I have of the cave and stairs. It was a lot more less developed back in 1974 when I was there. We never saw anyone else there when we would ride our bikes up from the base.

Thank you for sharing your experience. My parents had almost a similar experience when they told me about their visits when they were growing up on the island around that same time. Unfortunalty they dont have any existing photos so i can see it for myself
