As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I knew it was about Klaus Hahns. I saw his story on the TV show Dogfights. He was one of the two surviving members of the Sonderkommando Elbe to be interviewed. The other two who were talked about were Heinrich Rosner, who took out two B-24s, one of them being the “Palace of Dallas”, and Heinrich Henkel, who took out the B-24 “Sacktime”. The other pilot to be interviewed was Heinrich Henkel. Heinrich Rosner survived the war, but sadly passed away before he could be interviewed.

I saw this story for the first time in the Dogfights episode "Luftwaffe's Deadliest Mission" and really loved the additional details about both Klaus Hahn and Bud Wentz's bomber crew. I remember Hahn saying the exact words in this video as part of his interview for that episode and thought it was really cool how they were used again here. Never knew that he ended up losing that wounded arm, or that Wentz and his men ended up flying another B-17 back home and got into contact with Hahn decades later. Incredible, thank you so much, Yarnhub!
@Goc4everАй бұрын
Well done Yarnhub, well done. As always you outdid yourself with everything: the animation, the voice acting, the action and everything in between. I loved how you provided us with the perspective of both the crew of the B-17 and Klaus Hahn as well as the latter's motivation to show us the German side of the war and it really touched my heart that he didn't kill the B-17 crew. What's more heartbreaking about the Sonderkommando Elbe besides sacrificing so many young pilots in a last-ditch effort to turn the tide in Germany's favor is that it is reminescient of the Japanese kamikaze is that the war was already lost but still wanted to fight to the very end. You never cease to impress me Yarnhub and as a history buff you have my most sincere gratitude for providing us with such stellar content.

one of the few pilots ever in history to land a plane with only engine control, let alone safely intact on its wheels. man's an absolute beast. unless you've flown a simulator, you have no idea how insanely hard it is to fly like that. turning veryyyyy slowly with engines. rising and falling veryyyyy slowly with speed. and at any moment, the slightest imbalance, like a bad twitch of the controls, or big gust of wind, can send it spiraling out of the sky. thankfully part of the stabilizer and rear wings will still intact and the ailerons still worked. with that said, it was stupid to try landing the plane like that. should've just flown over allied space and bailed. seriously. the tiniest imbalance. gone. and if it happened while low to the ground with the landing attempt, no chance to bail.
