NORTHERN WAY - STAGE 3 - Avilés - Muros de Nalón

We walk through the historic center of Avilés visiting part of its rich monumental architecture.
As we leave the city on the ascent we can see the valley of the Raíces River while we head to the beautiful Salinas Beach, another surfer's paradise that also houses a picturesque Anchor Museum that due to lack of time we could not visit.
A new ascent leads us to leave this city to the Church of San Martin de Laspra, whose origins are very old.
Then the road runs through an area of countryside between small villages of houses on the hill that rises between the valleys of the Rio La Ferrería and Arroyo Ferrota. It then descends to Ventaniella, in Santiago del Monte.
The next section leads us to face the ascent to Monte la Granda, where the water has appropriated the old excavations of a sand quarry to form a series of lagoons. On the descent we can appreciate the San Esteban de Pravia estuary, formed by the Nalón River.
This river is best seen from the village of El Castillo, with panoramic views of its tower and defensive fort and the Portilla Bridge. We will have to cross the latter to reach the final objective of the day: Muros de Nalón.
