Thank you, Nick. My family and I did that hike along the river near Paderne in the spring of 2018 and again in the autumn of 2019 because it is so beautiful. This is a great hike for anyone interested in the Algarve flora, especially in the springtime. A fascinating area, especially because of the contrast between the dry upland and damp riverside habitats. Love the drone footage and your informative comments - especially with such a pleasant voice and accent. Great stuff. Can't wait to visit the Algarve again one day - when we can travel again. We stayed at the beautiful Casa do Vale da Lama near Odiaxere by the way. Highly recommend.

Nick, well done once again bud. Brilliantly educational, you obviously put a lot of thought and research into your videos. I'd just like to make one teeny suggestion: for those of us that are trying to follow your routes, etc. and that aren't too familiar with the workings of Google Earth (like myself), maybe you could keep the Google Earth map orientation pointing north? I suspect your 'picture in picture' (?) of you providing narrative may be blocking the Google Earth compass (?). It'd really help us that are trying to cross reference where you are on Google Maps. Otherwise... TOP NOTCH and I really enjoy your objective, high quality media! All the best from Jozi. (Edit / side note: Totally looking forward to the video on the legalities of what can be done with bought land / preservation / ins & outs - may be interesting to get an 'estate agent' onboard with some idea of what price ranges are available per sq.m. (from -> to), per region and per classification eg. land without structures / land with ruin / land with liveable structure, etc)... That's just me being quite lazy :-) but it could perhaps go a long way to increasing viewership.

Just came across this video, through youtube links. I'm portuguese, so , I'll try to help, and clarify 2 things. On the country's division, districts were kind of pahsed out, they are used, just for election purposes, and were supposed to be repalced by 5 regions, while, in between, there are metro areas, essentially Lisbon and Porto, and intermunicipal commonwealths. Concelhos are municipalities, they can also be known as municípios, and freguesias are civil parishes,, or submunicipal divisions. As for the Escola Básica, we were supposed to have B1, 2 and 3, which go 1-4, 5-6, and 7-9. Form there onwards, it's secondary teaching. Cheers.

This was a very nice video, Nick! I love seeing all these small villages of the real Algarve, that I had never heard of before. Not only is your voice very mellow and relaxing, but the drive seemed to be the same. I imagine one would need to be at least partially fluent in Portuguese to interact with the villagers in these towns, as this is probably Not an area seen by many Anglos. I love how you do the map and the Google Earth views, so we get a great visual of where these places are, and how to access them from better known cities. Nick. You are getting better and better at these ! You are certainly not making them in a vacuum ! So useful. Many thanks. Ps I’m curious about the resort near Querenca ! Who submits the “business case “ for these developments. That’s never going to “sell”. Not T2’s at €450K Utter madness. It will be another “the keys“ controversy. Anyway, enough of my negativity ! Thanks again.

Well that piece of land that no one wanted is nowadays one of the best holidays resort in Europe. "VALE DO LOBO, Turning the Dutch into a ver Wise Man. Who knows what will look like that big investment in the milled of no where, 60 years from Now? Anyway, there are people with so much money and wondering what to do with it!.... Cheers

@@AlgarveAddicts you mentioned those books, and being a South African .... you reminded me of a man I read about. He, sadly, was upset in his mid 40’s , and actually depressed. Mostly because he wasn’t as successful as his roommate from college. The man himself, was wealthy and popular, a serial entrepreneur. The problem was; his roommate from college, was Elon Musk !

Hello, I'm planning at trip to Portugal in September. We plan to spend three days in the Algarve before departing from Faro to Rome. We are trying to figure out the best way to see the coast from Lagos to the border with Spain so we can really see the beaches, towns and old fortresses along the Algarve. What's the best way to approach this goal? Should we rent a car or does the area have adequate public transportation between the towns in the Algarve? Any suggestions would be appreciated. We have not yet decided which town to stay in while down in the Algarve that puts us in a position to see most of the coastal area. I'm looking at Portugal for retirement so I wanted to get a feel for it while I'm there. I think I want to retire in the Algarve because the climate is supposed to be warmer in winter and it's supposed to be sunny most of the year based on what I've read.

Hi Chuck, I'd suggest you rent a car and then you can stay anywhere and explore. Lagos, Silves, Loulé and Tavira are pretty popular with expats.

@@AlgarveAddicts Thanks so much. We are starting our Portugal trip in Porto and renting a car to drive down the Silver Coast to Lisbon. We thought we would take a train from Lisbon to the Algarve but it sounds like we should just rent another car in Lisbon and drive down to the Algarve or take the train down to the Algarve and rent a car when we get there. I think it may be better to stay someplace in the central coastal Algarve and just do day trips since everything appears to be about two hours in each direction. If you have a better idea, I'm happy to hear it. Thanks for responding.

Hi Nick. We're a Cape Town couple looking for a finca/property/ruin that can be renovated for the purposes of establishing a guesthouse of at least 6 double rooms, in a more ‘rural’ out of town setting, but still with accessibility to beaches. If you know of anything please get in touch. Prepared to honour "finders fee".

You could have pointed out the portuguese flag painted on the side of the hill, in Alte. We can see it but you could have called attention to it. 😉 As far as I know, it's the only place in Portugal that has such a big Portuguese painted flag painted.

@@AlgarveAddicts Actually, if I may, Louella is in fact wrong about this. It is 100% right to say "The Algarve", for a couple of reasons: First of all, in Portuguese, we say "O Algarve" ("O" meaning "The") just as we say "O Minho", "O Alentejo", "O Douro", "O Porto", etc. (All of these are regions of Portugal). We don't say, for example, "Eu vou a Algarve" ("I'm going to Algarve"), we say "Eu vou ao Algarve" meaning, "I'm going to the Algarve"! The territory of Portugal used to be divided into provinces, and the Algarve was just one of them, just as Minho, Alentejo, etc., were! Secondly, for a brief period of time, Portugal was called "O Reino Unido de Portugal, Brasil, e dos Algarves" or "The United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil, and the Algarves" -- "The Algarves", plural, because Portugal used to have a few enclaves in Morocco, thus the term "Algarves". I hope this brings some clarity to the matter.
