Into the Mystic! I keep forgetting I’m an old lady so when young people do not know that there is awesome music out there it’s good young people like you react to it. I’m lucky enough to have listened to the music of the day from the 50’s to today on the radio, on my phonograph, etc. I was also bathed in the music of the 40’s-especially WWWIi. My mom taught me the fox trot and I taught her the twist. Keep listening and sharing❤️

Check out "Into The Mystic"! "Have I told you Lately" (that I love you.) was my wife and I's first dance song at our wedding. Van Morrison's body of work is so extensive. He's such a poet who's also a good musician. He's gone through many phases in his life and work such as getting more in touch with his religion phase and that comes out in his music on some albums. If you can catch some of his early 70's live performances, you'll be blown away. I don't know if I've heard him sing the same song the same way, twice.

Van was my brother's favorite artist. When he was laying in the hospital bed he and his wife were holding hands and listening to this song on the radio with tears rolling down both of their faces a few days before he finally succumbed to multiple myeloma. It was one of the most moving experiences of my life.

Thanks Ali for this great selection. I'm 72 and Van Morrison is one of my favorite singers. His voice is so emotive and his musical composing are superb. If you haven't you need to listen to his song "Tupelo Honey" one of the best love songs ever. But he had so many other beatiful songs to hear. It's a shame that music like this seems to be dead but people like you show that it's still relevant and alive.

You MUST try "Tupelo Honey" my favorite song by him. Also - Moondance, Have I Told You Lately, And The Healing Has Begun, Carrying a Torch, Got To Go Back, St. Dominic's Preview, Jackie Wilson Said, Into The Mystic, Got To Go Back, Cypress Avenue, Wild Night, Celtic Ray, Beautiful Vision, Domino, The Healing Game, Real Real Gone, Gloria - that's a good start! He does rock, jazz, funk, soul, R&B, folk, a little bit of everything.

Van Morrison was a staple of the San Francisco music scene in the 70s. I saw him several times including at Filmore West, Winterland and The Lion's Share. The latter is a small club in San Anselmo, just north of the city, with a real intimate setting. I also bought most of his early records and still have the vinyl LPs. He never disappointed and always had first rate musicians playing with him.

I grew up in the UK and remember Van Morrison from the group Them. By the time I moved to San Francisco in 1967 he was a solo artist. The last time I saw him live was at the Band's farewell concert at Winterland. Luckily, I can relive that experience through The Last Waltz movie, with a clip of his performance available on KZbin.

Van Morrison has quite the catalog and looking at the comments already provided there are many great songs already suggested. I would like to add another and that is the "Philosophers Stone." My personal fav's are "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" and "Moondance." He can be a crooner, as you've just heard, but he's far from that if you check out his songlist. Your love is inspiring. I realize that my generation had the best music. There were so many great genres. My friends and I loved the Beatles. We couldn’t wait for their next single to come out when we were teenagers. I especially loved Laura Nyro and Joni Mitchell. I had my first apartment at 17. That was not the norm in those days, for a girl to live on her own.

new subscriber, just found your channel recently. I'm loving your reactions. At 1:19 you said "we have lost something." What has been lost is music education in the elementary schools in the USA. I'm in my 60's and remember going to music class at least two or three times a week from at least second grade because I remember singing songs from Mary Poppins when I was in second grade. We also learned to read music, and I started learning to play clarinet in fourth grade. We had band every day for about an hour starting when I was in the sixth grade. The generation that were making music in the 60's and early 70's had even more music opportunities and influence than my age. Take a listen sometime to the big band dance music of the WWII era as well as Jazz for the influences. I don't know if music in the US will ever turn around, glad you enjoy 'our' music.

Now you've gone and done it. Van Morrison. There's no going back. Just wait until you hear the WHOLE ALBUM called "Moondance" (1970)👍😁 And then "His Band and the Street Choir" (also 1970). The whole album. It may as well be Moondance, Part 2. And then "Tupelo Honey" (1971). The whole album. And then his debut album, "Astral Weeks" (1968). The whole album. And then Saint Dominic's Preview (1972). The whole album. THEN you will be properly prepared for the rest of Van Morrison's music 😁

Most of what I see mentioned here ...Brown Eyed Girl, Tupelo Honey, Someone Like you etc are Van's more commercial "hits" ... He is, in my opinion, one of the great musical artists of my lifetime ( I am 80 years old) His first really important album, Astral Weeks , is a masterwork and not "wedding music" ...he wrote and performed it in his 20s. It is also important to know that he plays the piano, sax, and brilliant harmonica... writes, arranges and composes his music... and yes, is a pretty terrific vocalist. I think it's so fantastic that you have highlighted this amazing ( still alive and performing) artist... but would say, you have kind of missed the point by focusing on his most commercial material... I remember remember being blown away the first time I heard "Have I told you lately that I love you" in the grocery store.!... Van Morrison's music wasn't taken so lightly when any of it was first released! There is a large body of work ...hoping you have encouraged more of your generation to check it out... it's worth your time !!

Van Morrison was a poet who created the music to carry the words. Our generation had the greatest music with the wildest array of artists under the umbrella of rock and roll. Most towns and cities had a couple of radio stations for rock and roll, so we didn't have the micro split of genre that y'all have today. Basically, if your parents didn't want to listen to it, it was rock and roll. Also, lyrics back then, most of the people writing them were high, so take the perceived meaning with not a grain of salt, but with a grain of salt. Also, if I could make an observation about something I know you aren't aware of. I would love to see you just accept Ali's gift of songs without putting her on the spot. You accept your viewers suggestions with total openness and grace without them being put on the spot as to why they like a song, Ali deserves the same. Asking her after listening to the song while discussing what you have just listened to would be in line with the format you use with your viewers. I don't know about Ali, but I would be more comfortable with your format applying to her as well. She is lovely, and I think she would shine even more brightly if she isn't put on the spot. You are a beautiful couple. I enjoy your channel very much and appreciate your openness when it comes to being educated in the foundation of modern music. Keep up the good work.
