News 8's Carol Kendrick greeted Alice when he landed in San Diego on his private Mad House Rock jet. Alice was down to his fighting weight after he quit drinking. News 8 was at the concert later that night on April 9, 1979.

I remember this time seeing Alice looking so frail, skinny and ill looking and being fearful that he was going to die. Thank God he pulled through and today at 72 looks so fit and healthy.

i don't know why, but watching this devastated me. although he tries to conceal it, he wasn't in a healthy state of mind here. this led him to proceed in self destruction, only in a new form. i cant imagine how difficult it was to be sober, yet surrounded by other temptations that were just as dangerous. so glad he found balance, and was strong enough to pull through. realizing that he didn't have to be on something to portray his character is one of the best things he's done. he's still one of the best we got.

Been a huge fan since I was a teen and I saw his show at San Diego Sports Arena that year. I’m 59 now and glad to see in 2022 Alice Cooper is still bringing out not only original fans but new fans!!! No one like the genius of Alice Cooper. I just Listened to his ‘Who I Really Am’ on Audible and I loved hearing him narrate his story. Hoping a movie of his life and career will follow!!!

This was a very tragic low in Alice Coopers life , God had mercy on him. Thank God for his mercy and Grace. If he can save Alice God can save you and I as well 🙏🏻

My three favorite "rehab" album are (in order of release): Iggy's "Kill City" (recorded mid 75, released late 77), the Coop's "From the Inside" (78) and Courtney's "Nobody's Daughter" (2010)...

This is coked out Alice. They should come out with an Alice Cooper doll collection with different looks of Alice Cooper over the years. COKED OUT ALICE could be one of them.

i was at this show at the San Diego sports area. Great music and the most theatrical stage show of any concert I've ever seen. The only band that even approached that level of theatre was the Tubes circa 1981.

@@calista910 It's called -- " The strange case of Alice Cooper " -- It really is amazing to watch. There is commentary on this disc that has Alice doing the play - by - play throughout the show should you click on this special feature. Sheryl Cooper is VERY prominent in this concert. It is very cool to have Davey Johnstone in his band as well. As you may already know, Davey Johnstone was Elton John's Guitarist - Writer. So how old are you out of curiosity - ? And what part of the world are you at - ? Me - I'm 61 at this time and I am in Owensboro Kentucky. And I am a Musician as well. I mainly play Bass and do vocals among other things.

I used to, as a joke, name my dog Alice Cooper Jr. plus same with a Cabbage Patch Doll that Dad bought for Mom and then she refused to keep so I ended up with it, make jokes about all 4 children being named that when I was pregnant with them. First son- first child- I went into labor at an Alice Cooper concert, which is the only concert I've ever gone to- that wasn't a contest I was in, that is. So, there are pictures of me in the hospita looking at a newspaper from the day my son was born and you can plainly see there's an article about the concert. After that, I pretty much gave up the joke- which wasn't much to laugh at anyway. But, then when my youngest son was around 16 and had been giving his life a rough turn, he ended up super skinny with long wavy black hair. And, we happened to see a video of Alice Cooper from back around the time he started, doing some kind of strip tease out of a pair of long johns or something like that. And, we all busted up. Because, yep, my youngest son looked like Alice Cooper Jr. lol

Little known fact: comedian Freddy Lewis was the driver of the white van. He was taking Alice's band to The Holy City Zoo for a dinner engagement.

From the Inside was his last great album. From here, Alice would descend into cocaine and other drugs, then become Alice Cooper Inc. and offstage a preacher of the Gospel who pushed his Hollywood ending -- happily married and lover of Christ. In other words, he became no longer an artist or an interesting figure.

You need to get the 1980 - 1983 albums. Absolutely the best albums he ever did after the original band split in '74.
