Always liked this one best. Irresistible, irrefutable, invincible riff. 💪🏽 Watched them at work, Friday graveyard shift at a multilingual TV station in Toronto, after the Stones' 3-D broadcast, Eddie said the band name was based on his grandmother Pearl's homemade stuff. Said it equated to peyote and preserves. ✊🏼🤩🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊

I grew up in extremely rural north Texas-farm country/Bible belt. The local radio stations would not play this song. I only heard it once or twice back then because my uncle had a 45 of this song. Even at the ripe old age of 7 i understood the core meaning of it as being about a man who did as he pleases and his lady pays the price for "loving" him. Tragically, that same uncle was that man in the song. At his funeral, his fourth wife showed us scars on her arms and says that's all he left her. I hope there really is a hell. i love this song and can't help but picture his face and the evil grin knowing he was just like the husband in this song.

I was fortunate to see Alice's "Welcome To My Nightmare" tour way back in '75. Giant spiders climbing on a huge cobweb backdrop...a Cyclops...a guillotine...dancing skeletons...it was like spooky Halloween fun (even though it was March). And then this poignant, beautiful song in the middle of it all. AND a beautiful ballerina was part of the show. Alice married her. 🩵✨️🩵✨️🩵✨️🩵✨️🩵✨️🩵✨️🩵✨️🩵

Vincent going deep. Yes, Alice Cooper (Vincent Furnier) co-wrote the song with Dick Wagner. Wagner was a behind-the-scenes all-star. He and Steve Hunter did a lot of great work together. They did the guitars on Aerosmith's Train Kept a Rollin' and on Lour Reed Rock 'n' Roll Animal. You've GOT to do Intro/Sweet Jane from that album. The guitars are out of this world. BTW, this song is from Welcome to my Nightmare, Cooper's fist solo effort. Great stuff.

Alice's writing credits were typically for his lyrics. He usually finds a guitarist for a collaborator who writes the music, and Coop supplies the lyrics. This one was co-written by Dick Winters. Cooper was one of the few rock artists to weather the "disco" storm. He did this by writing some beautiful ballads to get radio play, of which this was the first and probably the most important. "I Never Cry", "You and Me", and "How You Gonna See Me Now" . They are all pretty good

I'm glad you guys got to this. Like I've said elswhere, domestic violence wasn't talked about back then. What happened in the house stayed in the house. But we all knew. We knew which kids in school got slapped around at home and whose mother had to put up with things they shouldn't have to. Alice Cooper brought it out in the open. For another softer side of Alice Cooper, try "Edit: You And Me". a beautiful little diddy! Or, go back in time to the early 60's with George Jones "Wives And Lovers". Life for women was different back then. Have a great day!

@WayneHawk-h2uАй бұрын
Welcome to my Nightmare is a concept album that on the surface is about the nightmares of a little boy named Steven. The songs for the most part connect through Stevens nightmare. On a different level it's about a grown man's psychotic delusions. The 2nd half of the album primarily. This song, "Only Women Bleed" is about domestic abuse but in Steven's psychotic state it's the point when he actually murders his wife. It's followed up by "Cold Ethyl". A rocker that's about necrophilia. But this is the point when Steven stuff's his wife's body into a freezer. You guys really need to listen to the whole album from beginning to end to get the story. Especially , what's come to be known as the "Steven Trilogy" which is comprised of the songs "Years Ago, Steven and The Awakening". Super creepy. Upon it's release in 1975 I recall it wasn't widely favored by the music critics of the day but has since become known as a masterpiece and one of the most influential albums of all time.

I remember back in the 70's he (and other acts with stage shows) took some criticism for their performances focusing more on the stage act and not the music. So Alice Cooper wrote Only Women Bleed and Me And You to show he can write deeper songs as well. "Edit: You And Me" takes a 180 and is about domestic LOVE not violence. 🙂

In Alice's own words, no it was not about a woman's menstrual cycle. The sing was written fir the Welcome to My Nightmare Tour because he needed to include a ballad in his show. He said he does this to this to this day where he Includes a ballad women will love in his recordings and for his show. The si g is about how women feel emotionally and bleed frim the heart, mind and soul and men don't. At the time of its rekease Feminists protested the song misunderstanding the lyrics.
