Back then, any man kissing Alice Eve on the cheeks would've considered it a major event of his life to be remembered forever.

Alice, from an American who studied American Literature in college, you are ill-informed and wrong that Poe was an alcoholic. This, as I said, is an ill-informed myth about the man He had a blood disorder which prevented him from drinking any alcohol. He was a writer who had a vivid imagination. He was also a cryptographer who challenged anyone to send him a cipher he could not decipher. He was the first detective story writer with his "Murders in the Rue Morgue." Very interesting man.

It so appears. Baudelaire was using opium and wine excessively. On the other hand Poe was not. He often wrote in the first person and some of the public, and even some of the critics believed those were stories about him. They were not. Indeed, Poe being an alcoholic who was also on other kinds of drugs is a popular myth of no relation to reality.

You are half right. The issue is in dispute and not fully evidenced one way or the other (though death by alcohol has been ruled out by virtually all serious scholars.) There are several sources for this contention, but here is one... web.archive.org/web/20070602185101/www.usna.edu/EnglishDept/poeperplex/alcoholp.htm
