just coz you're late to the party doesn't mean she was underrated ... she was the biggest drawing movie star in the country for several years - just how is that underrated?

Beautiful voice. I have in my belongings a vinyl record of Alice Faye. I think that her most hit was You'll never Know. Good old times. Good old music, not old, for it is an evergreen song

This clip is awesome! Alice Faye is beautiful, the character is feisty, and that outfit is fantastic -- those shoes! The feathers! And what a great alto voice, perfect for the "brassy" character here and ragtime in general. Altos do not get enough love.

@@egparis18 here I am nearly a decade later to post “contralto” when my comment was clearly intended as praise for the actress and her voice. And yes we have classically trained vocalists in the family so the notion that it’s exceptionally important for me to label Ms. Faye as a “contralto” is ludicrous pedantry when the meaning of the was quite obvious and directed at a general audience appreciating older films. But okay…eye roll… KZbin comments fixate on “contralto” for years and years…

The (few) existing clips and films of Alice Faye are among the strongest arguments for film preservation to be made. The overwhelming body of her work was lost to silver nitrate recycling efforts which, for the benefit of a few dollars, made sure she would be all but forgotten. Personally I relate to this because... [edited]
