Idk I think they’re all at an equal playing field. Bc it’s heavy music but they all added a pop-esk rhythm sections to their songs, lyrics are more of a laymen’s reality based, also not saying these bands couldn’t be technical in guitar playing but that’s the best part the guitar parts in every grunge band is usually not so technical and it’s usually some what sloppy. (I’d say with the exception of Kim from Soundgarden and Jerry, here) and even then they both kept things fairly simple most the time. It just really gives this era of music a sense of longevity bc you go back and listen to 70’s, 80’s and early 2000’s stuff and it never sounds as fresh or new as “grunge” music

IMO... Every person in the band was EXACTLY where they belonged! If things would've ended up being any different for the band or the lineup of the band then I think we would have never got to experience AIC and all the "bangers" they blessed us with! As a band, what they had was very rare... There arguably the best band of our time! 🤘🏼🎸

Couldn’t agree more, I never get tired of hearing them, Layne’s voice was literally like a musical instrument, the way he could hold his notes with that effortless distortion, so many people who have never had the great pleasure of listening to a band that in my opinion were the top of their class, I love Nirvana and who doesn’t but in my opinion Alice In Chains were above and beyond them, such an original and unique sound, especially some of their intros, you know it is Alice In Chains immediately when it comes on, I have a teenage daughter who has gotten into Nirvana and I told her “that is great but you need to hear Alice In Chains, they are the best of Seattle grunge and please, no Pearl Jam” it might be an unpopular opinion but I can only handle a very small amount of Pearl Jam. RIP Layne, you truly were a master of your craft and I will do everything possible introduce as many people as I can to Alice In Chains.

Absolutely agree @Jeffrey Beshears! He wasn’t glorifying drug use at all. The man went on record saying he knew he’d die soon, that he was vomiting and shitting himself for f*cks sake! Far from glorifying ANYTHING about drugs! He knew he had f*cked up! He was honest and raw about his struggles. Ever hear of if one person can be saved at least the person who died didn’t die in vain? He died alone in his very modest condo . He didn’t keep performing for the money ! Especially after he was so thin and frail and had lost his teeth. I get so sick of people bad mouthing him! If you aren’t a fan of the music, why be on here? To make yourself feel better by bad mouthing a dead man ? Please 🛑!

This video was recorded in March 96, only 1 month before the MTV Unplugged show. On this video, Layne's body is thin, his face emaciated, and he wears gloves (in order to hide the needle marks). If you compare with the Grind video (recorded in October 95) or the Mad Season shows a few months earlier, where he still looked quite healthy, the change in Layne's appearance is unbelievable in such a short lapse of time... I think Layne crossed the point of no return in early 96' He never got back in shape since then. Rest in Peace, Layne

Kinda weird, but unfortunately typical for you tube. Gee, either that, or you must have said something in another video that they didn't like. I mean, what other explanation is there, other than just lame. Too bad it's becoming a common thing to silence people. It's possibly a mistake, but how does that even happen? Sorry, but just thought you should know the (2) replies to your comment weren't showing.

I think Layne is very beautiful in this video, and during Mad Season's live performance at the Moore in 1995, and during MTV Unplugged in 1996. Even though he lost a lot of weight and teeth during his final years, I think Layne still remained very beautiful inside out. Just listen to his final interview during Rockline show in 1999. Layne is such a sweet guy with a great sense of humor and very intelligent too. I can't talk about beautiful Layne in the past because he continues to live through the amazing music which he made

I think I deciphered what this song actually means. It's about Layne calling himself out with how he his handling the situation with Demri at the time. She was in and out of the hospital, on heroin, and Layne was paying for everything and still held out hope that she would get better and sober. He would over extend himself to her, because he still had that hope. But she makes a fool of him again and again, and he has a weak will when it comes to her. But no matter how much he wants her to get better, it won't heal her heart (which she had a very bad heart condition because of her heroin usage). And it eats him up on the inside. Layne was so very self aware in his lyrics and I love that about him.

I was lucky enough to be hitting my teenage years when AIC came out and they will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart. Layne was truly special and Jerry is insanely talented and they complimented each other perfectly. I have rocked out to AIC and I have cried to AIC. Truly one of the best bands EVER!!

I'm proud to have been the 'red-hooded midget handler' in this video. The guys in the band (and the adorable midgets themselves) were lovely. It was a fun "shoot." For all of us and then especially for Layne afterward.

Fuck this song is so addictive. Alice in chains could make you headbang just like they could make you see new colors in their softer songs
