Idk I think they’re all at an equal playing field. Bc it’s heavy music but they all added a pop-esk rhythm sections to their songs, lyrics are more of a laymen’s reality based, also not saying these bands couldn’t be technical in guitar playing but that’s the best part the guitar parts in every grunge band is usually not so technical and it’s usually some what sloppy. (I’d say with the exception of Kim from Soundgarden and Jerry, here) and even then they both kept things fairly simple most the time. It just really gives this era of music a sense of longevity bc you go back and listen to 70’s, 80’s and early 2000’s stuff and it never sounds as fresh or new as “grunge” music

Couldn’t agree more, I never get tired of hearing them, Layne’s voice was literally like a musical instrument, the way he could hold his notes with that effortless distortion, so many people who have never had the great pleasure of listening to a band that in my opinion were the top of their class, I love Nirvana and who doesn’t but in my opinion Alice In Chains were above and beyond them, such an original and unique sound, especially some of their intros, you know it is Alice In Chains immediately when it comes on, I have a teenage daughter who has gotten into Nirvana and I told her “that is great but you need to hear Alice In Chains, they are the best of Seattle grunge and please, no Pearl Jam” it might be an unpopular opinion but I can only handle a very small amount of Pearl Jam. RIP Layne, you truly were a master of your craft and I will do everything possible introduce as many people as I can to Alice In Chains.

I think Layne is very beautiful in this video, and during Mad Season's live performance at the Moore in 1995, and during MTV Unplugged in 1996. Even though he lost a lot of weight and teeth during his final years, I think Layne still remained very beautiful inside out. Just listen to his final interview during Rockline show in 1999. Layne is such a sweet guy with a great sense of humor and very intelligent too. I can't talk about beautiful Layne in the past because he continues to live through the amazing music which he made

I think I deciphered what this song actually means. It's about Layne calling himself out with how he his handling the situation with Demri at the time. She was in and out of the hospital, on heroin, and Layne was paying for everything and still held out hope that she would get better and sober. He would over extend himself to her, because he still had that hope. But she makes a fool of him again and again, and he has a weak will when it comes to her. But no matter how much he wants her to get better, it won't heal her heart (which she had a very bad heart condition because of her heroin usage). And it eats him up on the inside. Layne was so very self aware in his lyrics and I love that about him.
@billythekid222202 жыл бұрын
It’s definitely about heroine that’s forsure
@saratoole99072 жыл бұрын
it's about a lot more than that, but on a personal level, yes, i agree that the line about "won't help her heal her heart" is about his beloved demri

There's times when Layne's yeahs can be unnecessary, annoying but definitely not here. I also like the contrast between the polished, hip-looking vid and the raw, pain-filled melody + vocals. Album as a whole is more than a couple tiers below Dirt IMO but this one song is just class.
