Dear everyone who is about to comment about the lack of guitar in the mix: READ THIS FIRST. This audio is coming straight off of the board. It is the audio which is coming through the front-of-house main PA speakers. As most people who have stage experience will know, rock and metal stages are loud. The sound heard by the crowd is stage noise + PA noise. A lot of times with local bands with basic gear, the drums will be very loud, while the vocals will be the quietest. In this video, however, Jerry Cantrell is using a 100W Marshall Amp, which literally drowns out everything and everyone else. If you stood on stage and turned off all the stage monitors, you would basically hear nothing but guitar. Since the guitar is so loud, if not for the PA system, this would be Jerry Cantrell ft. A Group of Mimes. In order to compensate for this, the vocals, drums, and bass are cranked by the man working the soundboard. The stage carries the guitar while the PA system carries the rest of the band. Since we only have the audio going through the PA system, we get very little guitar, but if the sound guy had mixed it so it sounded good in this video then the result would have been a very crappy mix for the people in attendance.

You are absolutely right man. To be totally honest if they were going to release this video? They should have went in and screwed around with the sounds and done some kind of remastering or something with it. I'm a guitar player so we know what it sounds like to drown everybody else out... We can't help it. To our own ears we sound better extremely loud.

Gotta put some guitar in those giant P.A. speakers and mix it like a pro. Turn the stage bass down if there's a problem. Make it rock. Those Marshalls could be dummies. Easier to tour with. Just one real one. Use your gear. There could be people in the back saying. "What that fuck is this"? You're micing up for the first 3 rows of people.

@justinkonrad85505 жыл бұрын
As mentioned above - this is a straight soundboard mix. Jerry's guitars were likely so loud on stage that they didn't need to be in the PA very much. If you were in the audience, you probably got plenty of guitar - it's just an artifact of the way this was recorded that it's so low. (Bass does sound great, though.)

Wow I was at the show when I was 15 I got to hang out with Lane afterwards by song 3 Alice in Chains gets booed off stage me and my cousin go to the back of the venue after the show where the buses are parked and Lane comes up to us and asks us for real bathroom and we pointed the bathroom right over around the corner with the line of people, I guess he want a little more privacy so he took off on his longboard to the middle of the parking lot in Arco Arena and hung out in a planter box and me and my cousin went out there afterwards waiting for Aunt to pick us up and we see Lane and we hang out with him and he tells us how Dave Mustaine call them up and ask them to open up the Clash of the Titans and he couldn't say no to Dave so there he was stuck on tour throwing his mic down on song 3 every night ! no one had heard of these guys at the time....

May 25, 1991 Pacific Amphitheater, Costa Mesa California. Thank you and God bless you a million times for posting this absolutely 💯 precious video footage. They look and sound so bad a$$ here. Saw this tour in Springfield, IL. Wasn't too familiar with AIC beyond Man in the Box which was getting a lot of play on MTV. In between sets, Layne was standing around at the back of the auditorium and me and my friends got his autograph. That whole show was killer. The pit during Slayer was brutal.

*Full* *Circle* So awesome you got to meet Layne! Sorry to hear you lost your autograph! :( I completely know how you feel though, I had Prince's autograph but it disappeared sometime in the mid 80's. :'( Someone either stole it or I hid it *really* well. Prince and his guitarist Andre Cymone both gave me their autographs for my 10th birthday. My mom worked with Andre's aunt Lillian in St. Paul, MN and Lillian got the autographs for me a few days before my birthday in 1980 when Prince was just breaking onto the popular music scene. Prince wrote "Happy birthday Donna! I hope you have a good time! Prince". Andre wrote "Happy birthday Donna! Have fun! Andre Cymone". I was absolutely *CRUSHED* when I discovered my autographs were gone! I am hoping I just hid them and forgot at the time. I recently remembered an old hiding spot I once put them in (a book that my mom still has). I don't remember if I ever checked in that book when I realized they were missing. I haven't been able to get to her house since December 2017 due to my car being broke down since January 2018. When I get there the first thing I'm going to do is look in that book!!! I would *freak* *out* if they were in there!!!!

So I watched 310 over and over and all I saw was a guard watching then turning around he didn't seem enthusiastic or like he gave a shit. I think your seeing things. Again 3:10 1 guard watching not moving or shaking his head along to the song then turns back around. Didn't look like he really gave a shit. Did anyone see anything different. Did he bang his head a couple of times or move like he was grooving along to the song? Did I miss him looking like he was into it? I'm pretty sure at least at the time of 3:10 and pretty much the whole video non of the guards looked like they were in to it. So what he turned to watch he also turned back around and continued to face foward does that mean he's really in to the crowd too?
@kathryndogoloff52974 жыл бұрын
@@theophany1770 what is everyone seeing I watched 3:10 over and over all I saw was a guard turn stand still no moving his body or head watch for a minute then turn back around. What was there to catch he didn't seem enthusiastic at all to me. So what? He also turned around and faced the crowd for the rest of the time that to me is not the body language of someone that was in to or excited to see the band playing if he really was we would have seen some head movement or body movement along with the beat watching a band that you have to stand in front of for 5 seconds doesn't mean he likes the band at all!!!??? It's just a weird thing to first of all point out when nothing was really wasn't happening and second to make an assumption about someone that didn't look too enthusiastic at all wouldn't he have at least kept watching or turned around again if he liked it SO much? You guys need better reading body language skills because that body language didn't say "he knows what he's witnessing" is great it's just a guard that felt like watching for a few seconds. Good God of all things to comment about a bored guard that turned towards the stage for seconds then turned back around. NOT Laynes amazing voice or what the crowd doesn't know their witnessing or Mikes awesome bass playing Sean's awesome drums that Jerry is kick ass but his amp needs to be turned up NO not any of that but instead a guard that watched for a few seconds???!!! Whatever. Was it at 3:10? Maybe that was the wrong time because again I watched over and over and didn't see anyone that looked like they were enjoying or enthusiastic about what they were seeing. Which is a shame they had no idea what they were witnessing.

All we can hear of Jerry's guitar is what's bleeding into the drum mics from his amps on stage. He probably had his amp cranked up so fuckin' loud that they muted his track on the soundboard :D It's great to see this stuff, thanks for uploading! ;)

The audio recording is a direct feed off the FOH console. The guitar is buried in the mix because Jerry was probably running his amps wide open...so no need to put really him in the mix if his stage volume was 120dB.

@@TheNewFallOfficial Yeah, having seen them live early on - Jerry's guitar stage volume was intense. Sound guy was probably turning everyone else up to match him.
