Jake B Because as long as Jerry is involved, AIC will always be the best band out there. I’ve always been into AIC because of him, so I’ll say this hoping that you won’t get me wrong, but I never found Layne’s voice that appealing, therefore his loss meant more Jerry vocals for me which I welcomed with all my heart.

That's the point. I didn't mean 5-minutes long solo shredders, just about 30-seconds of some good guitar work. It is quite boring and tiring listening to 4-minutes song filled only with vocals and 99% of today's "rock" mainstream hits are like this. The only other "radio" band that comes to my mind is Metallica when releasing a new album (yes, I know wah-wahs etc) but it happens once in a decade.

I've said this forever but I can also never get anyone to listen. Do people honestly believe that one day Mudhoney, Mother Love Bone, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, AIC, Soundgarden, and other bands all got together one day and said "Hey! Let's be 'grunge bands'"! AIC is just a straight up hard rock band to me. Metal elements. Blues elements. Rock elements. Even jazz elements on Swing on This. They're just a great band no matter what you want to "label" them. I'd say So Far Under might be my favorite song on this new album. Jerry Cantrell is a riff master as much as Adam Jones is.

William Duvall had his own band and traveled with AIC and it was named Comes with the fall. They also released some albums in their own right. Duvalls range hasn't even been touched. He and Jerry have been friends long before playing music together. Check out some of Williams songs. Not saying better but worth the listen. AIC is blessed with having him not to feel Layne's shoes yet the right fit for the dimension they already established.

Can you imagine what Mike,Jerry and Sean thought sitting in the audience during that.

Red Giant Alice in Chains [Verse 1] I play the clown for you Entertaining, absurd hue As I watch them laugh, I'd love to See them clap and dance to my tune [Chorus] Blowing up like a red giant, expansive, a star And I'm coming to burn this down and laugh my ass off [Post-Chorus] All my children sing it again and again 'Cause a lie ain't a lie if you're winnin' 'em over Amen [Verse 2] I act on stage up here Toying with your own fears Misdirection I'm so near Simple sleight of hand, in the clear [Chorus] Blowing up like a red giant, expansive, a star And I'm coming to burn this down and laugh my ass off [Post-Chorus] All my children sing it again and again 'Cause a lie ain't a lie if you're winnin' 'em over Amen [Verse 3] Too late now, show's over Real life is much closer Take the make up off, you wonder Why I look the same, only bolder [Chorus] Blowing up like a red giant, expansive, a star And I'm coming to burn this down and laugh my ass off [Post-Chorus] All my children, sing it again and again 'Cause a lie ain't a lie if you're winnin' 'em over Amen

cicada grungeslikker yep. Who do u think the 2nd voice is? It's there, it's subtle. But it's enough to create that signature AIC sound. Backing vocals and harmonies don't have to be deafening to be effective. This is what Jerry has mastered over the years. Nothing sounds like Alice. (Thank God)

Jake Kiesgen I see :) I agree that Black gwtb was indeed an amazing album. I’ve been listening to Alice since the 90s and I’ve always favored Jerry, so for me, unlike 95% of fans, Alice became perfect after Layne passed away as Jerry started singing more. Anyway, in sum, our reasons and preferences may differ but we all love AIC :)
