When this show happened, Alice In Chains hadn't performed live in several years. The band put this show together as a benefit concert for the catastrophic Indonesia tsunami that occurred about two months prior, inviting several different vocalists to sing. Maynard was one of them and the show took place in Seattle. It started to set the wheels in motion for Alice to come back together, to play and to write new music.

Same, Layne Staley (who is a talent that can't be replaced with his unparalleled vibrato and octave) and MJK are vocal gods. I think Maynard is one of, if not the only artist I can think of to actually do justice for Alice in Chains, I can't really say the same for William Duvall (he just falls flat imo). Layne Staley is also one of my favorite vocalists of all time, and I think he unequivocally deserves far more recognition in the context of the masses for his talents than what he does currently.

I was there for that show at the Premier Nightclub in Seattle and I got the ticket stubs and poster to prove it. But seriously, it was AMAZING. The whole show. A lifelong fan of AIC and Tool among others on the bill that night, it was a gift to have gotten tickets for that show because if I recall it sold out in 10 - 20 minutes. I took off work to stay home and secure our tickets. Maynard was an unlisted guest appearance and we were all blown away when he came out to perform two of the best AIC songs. He gave it all and so did the band. They killed and I am convinced that the energy in that room that night, from everybody; the contributing artists and fans, was so great that it definitely lit the fire again to get serious about starting the band back up. Up until then they had talked about it but wouldn't commit to it for understandable reasons. This recording is outstanding and I hate it's been here for 14 years and I had no idea. Thanks for bringing this moment back to me!

Martin Rodriguez, I agree with you. I like to think both Tool and Alice in Chains are bands where the sum is greater than the parts, where everything just works, where one element augments the others and lifts it up beyond where most bands can go. I always felt Dream Theater has nothing to do with Tool. Dream Theater sounds like a group of session musicians who like to show off their skills but forget to create a good song in the process. It is often just complexity for complexity's sake. There is no sincerity or beauty. Their music just doesn't work for me.

Next to Layne...................................................Maynard would have been the next best singer for Chains.

I wish they had the video of Richard Patrick of Filter doing man in the box with Alice. Tool and Alice(with staley) are 2 of my favorites along with Filter(1st 3 records) Type o Negative and a bunch of other 90s alt rock legends.
