A friend of mine asked me to do this video, she wanted to know how to attach the Molle Shoulder Straps and Kidney Belt to the frame. So here you go Karen :-)) I mistakenly say Multiple Sleep System, two times in this video. once @ 1:11 and again around 1:34. The true name for this sleep system is the "Modular Sleep System" (MSS).

Thanks Ray. This video is helpful. A few months I purchased a mini Alice Pack and and am not using a frame. ...not sure if I like it or not. Your detailed information is exactly what I wanted to know. Although the frame and pack arrangement may work, I am not permitted (Dr's orders) to not carry more than 15-20 pounds on a pack... and am told to not hike on uneven surfaces. So I'm doing what ever I can to reduce weight. Usually I carry an REI Flash 50 pack, which has an internal frame and uses light weight materials. Have a good week ahead, my friend. Spring is here at last! Ken

If you use 2 carabiners on the frame your mounting strap will center itself when tightened.

Great video Ray, thanks so much for taking the time to do the video, what is the name of the pouch on the bottom, I would like to order one for my sleeping bag, I've seen the Molly waist pouch but that looks much bigger! looks like you got a nice piece of foam "green" on your frame too! Thanks again so much Ray blessings and take care

It is called a SCC (Sleep System Carrier) bag Karen. It is way bigger than the Molle waist pack, but the waist pack is made to go on a waist belt. Remember my video of what you called my "Batman" belt, I've got one on it ;-)) Thanks for your kind comment Karen, and also thanks for watching too ;-)) Take Care my friend :-))

Cool and informative. Can't you secure your sleep gear on the base of the ruck by fishing 550 cord and old, surplus, canvas rile slings (which can be found cheap on surplus ) on the ALICE? I do that with various military rucks ( always stick with surplus, those "tacti-cool" civilian rucks will fall apart ) and it woks on them, will it work on ALICE?
@SurviveN2
@SurviveN2 3 жыл бұрын
Sure you can do that for securing gear to the bottom of an Alice pack 👍 But with the MSS bag....you don't need to, the bag comes with it's own straps sewn onto it, plus the straps have Fastex Buckles too 😉 All you have to do is to lace them through the Alice pack & frame and your good to go 👍 This pack is about to be replaced with the Lg Alice pack 😉 I don't like most civilian packs, my hiking pack is a CFP-90 👍 Thanks for watching and thanks for taking the time to comment 😉

Thanks for making this series of videos. This was helpful. I was curious about the MMSS woodland camo carrier. Is that particular pouch made just for that item or is it called something else? Thanks again. I subbed to your channel this morning.

Excuse me for not getting back to ya sooner Bruce :-} The MMSS bag for a pack is called the SSC (Sleep System Carrier) bag. It's made specifically for the MMSS but you can naturally put anything in there you want, provided it will fit....LOL. I hope this helps :-} Thanks for taking the time to comment, and also thanks for watching & the Sub too ;-)) Take Care :-))

I like the set up but while walking with that set up I'm assuming the sleeping bag part will be swinging back and fourth hitting my butt I think . . Is that why it's called buttpack ? 😜
@SurviveN2
@SurviveN2 4 жыл бұрын
LOL...a good play on words Max 👍 How much it swings back and forth depends on how tight you cinch the straps down for the sleeping bag carrier 😜 I don't even notice it 😉 I like this pack but I prefer my CFP-90 at the moment. That might change tho....once I switch all the contents, kidney belt pad and shoulder straps from this Medium Alice Pack over to a new Large Alice Pack I've picked up 😉 Thanks for your kind comment and thanks for watching too 😉 Take Care 😊

@@SurviveN2 LoL I like the frame of Alice . I have an Large Alice pack and it's still serving me good but I want more capacities tbh. Yes, I do own MSS as well . It's great most of times but when it's gets real cold I do want one more later to it. I'm still tinkering how should I connect my MSS and sleep mat with my Alice and I stumbled onto your videos. Ive subscribed it with thumbs up as well . I bought a TCOP tent from eBay and right now I'm trying to come up with how to create a substitute candle stocks for my UCO candle lantern at this moment . Hope this thing will decrease condensations in this tent because I've heard it nortorious for it . I'm so busy for my jobs and I haven't much time to camp out in natures . But this kind of things keep me going . Best of luck to you ! I'd post comments time to time on your video for sure ! TTYL ! 😂

I like external pack frames after having used both types. There's just more ventilation for your back with an external frame 👍 The sleeping pad generally goes on top of packs, between the lid and the straps. I have a pad from Klymit I haven't made a video of yet that's insulated, but I have to blow it up....😲 LOL Instead of the shelter half I went for a Catoma one man older EBNS....they now call it the Wolverine EBNS 😜 I got mine from eBay 😉 My lanterns are LED, no muss no fuss 👍 I have several different sized solar panels and battery packs to recharge things with 😉 UCO is good but I just don't like having flames in Nylon tents....😜 LOL As long as you have good airflow...no condensation should form 👍 The EBNS has vents 😉 I'll be looking for your posts Max 😉 Take Care 😊

@@SurviveN2 yeah , I love the frame of Alice . It's just great. Yes , you mentioned about ventilation. It's the key. And in case , something happened I can carry an adult with little bit of conversion in case of emergency or carry bunch of dead trees to the camp sites if it's needed. Yes , me too I'm kind of guy who put sleeping bag on a bottom and mats on top of the Alice pack . It does frequently happens little rain falls out in a fields and that buy some time to water proof my sleeping bag if it's nescery when you put sleeping bag on bottom. Besides, MSS is heavy . I can't put that on top. Near the pack belt is best bet for me too. Yeah , i thought the same thing about flame in a tent. But , the color of light and heat and just keep stay sharp about fire in a little tent that won't cause anything to me . It's kind of gamble for me too tho . LoL I don't have much of money so I bought TCOP . I don't know much just yet but its a four season tent so I bet it's durable with all kinds of inconveniences comes with after that I'm assuming....lol I like the idea of air mat. But , it's filthy expensive and Ive had sad experiences of puncturing expensive ones several times even taking all the precautions over it and I thought it ain't worth the money after all . You did your best to blow it up and later on finding out about small hole leaking air in a middle of nights ain't good experiences .... LMAO And it's exhausting before bed time . Especially you have to blow it up right before bed that makes me wake wide up more than go into sleeping . I think my lungs ain't strong enough to do that lol . Well, If it's gets abused like using in outdoor I need something very durable and confident enough to be able to use it on demand . Plus, with MMS I get enough comfort with just a form mat most of times and if it's really cold I'd just lay that shiny emergency blanket under Neath hearing clinking sounds ... so... LoL I'm just a firm sleeper. 😂 but I might buy klymit sleeping pillow since they are doing free with shipping fees right now. But then, in my case with pillow, I need real cloth touching my face instead of some kind of plastic ...it really bothers me .I don't know why . I might get those compression pillow from REI .that possibly close as regular house pillows. TTYL 😂

You shouldn't need to waterproof your MSS as long as you've got the Goretex Bivy outer cover, because it's waterproof 👍 Your correct, compared to today's newer materials and insulation the MSS is heavy...but it's bomb proof 😜 If I know what the temps are going to be while I'm out, I'll take and leave parts of it at home to lighten it up. And if it's going to be really really cold, I've made a fleece liner to go inside of it....it will knock about 12* F off the temp outside 👍 This might freak you out a bit but I have another sleeping bag trick when it's cold out to stay warm, it's a Marine Corp camping hack.....take a empty Gatorade bottle to bed with you, need I say more....😜 ROFLMAO I hate to be the bearer of bad news....but if you've got the Eureka TCOP.....it's a good 3 season tent but it's not a 4 season tent. My EBNS is almost a twin to the Eureka TCOP, mine just has one pole tho. I caught my air mattress as a blemished item and on sale for 50% off, the kicker is....I can't find the blemish....😜 LOL I hear ya Max about it being frustrating if there's a small leak and your having to constantly blow it back up....😲 LOL I'm the type of person that'll fall asleep at the drop of a hat and never wake up...even if it's thundering and lighting....😲 LOL Plus I sound like a freight train roaring along on the tracks....so....so much for stealth camping....😲 LOL Here's an idea for you to think about Max....I took some Fleece (the same that I made my fleece sleeping bag liner with) and made a pillow cover, I take either a jacket or some other piece of clothing that I've taken off before I get into the sleeping bag and stuff it inside the pillow cover for the padding 👍 I don't like the plastic pillows either, so it's not just you 😉 Take Care 😊
