Made some 1-3/4" outside diameter fender type washers from the side walls of a Clorox bleach bottle. Sandwiched the tarp between 2 of the washers and set them with a brass grommet. Never had a grommet failure using this method of reinforcement.

My wife just brought this set home from thrift store. Nobody knew what it was,git it for a dollar lol. I didnt know what it was but saw the smiths name and knew it was for sharpening something. Mine has 3 holes 1 is on other end with same angle. I got 2 black rods which i figure are the coarse ones? No nagura stone but, a small wooden stick black in color and the same diameter it fits the holes. Any idea? And thanks for the video. I believe my set is a lil newer than urs.

I have been planning on sewing 2 queen size sheets bought in Walmart together for a sleeping bag months ago. I got the sheets, but still haven't sewn them together. I also got queen size bedding pad to lay on on the floor. At times it's too hot that i want to sleep in the floor to cool down. But haven't used that either, yet. Trying to decide on how I want to sew top of one sheet for body pillow. I also have unsewn sheet to try making a bigger pillow case to fit 2 body pillows inside. This way the pillow case keeps the top pillow on top of the other pillow. But I still haven't gotten that sewing done either. But I did get all 4 sides hemed a few months ago. Right now one pillow case always slides off the other body pillow. I sleep with 2 body pillows, one on top of the other. Can't sleep with only one pillow. Good sewing. I'd like it more if you recorded yourself actually sewing your projects. And share step by step in what you are doing. I am looking for sewing videos that actually shows them sewing sheets liners together, etc.

I purchased the same Smiths set in 1984 for 29.99 at a local hardware store. I carved the price and date on the underside of the wood base at the time. That was a lot of money for me at the time. I still use that set to this day. Given the use, not so expensive after all. Its a 20 degree angle, I believe. I have some other sets that are 25 degrees. Add a leather strop for a few strokes and I can get it razor sharp with these. I've always cleaned mine with a 3M green scuff pad with water and dish detergent. Never knew of another way.👍

Real cool! I have one of these from Catoma the whole set is solid coyote Brown. Was also able to find a military surplus rain fly new in the original bag labeled for the government. I’ve had my eye on one of these woodland camouflage bed net, but this is the first I’ve seen the woodland camouflage rain fly. It’s a really neat pop-up single person net. Easy to pack in a backpack. I usually don’t fold mine all the way down to the tightest smallest package. Will only do that when I need to for small backpack travel purpose. Looks like a great item for those that travel to foreign countries maybe aid workers going to Haiti or even those that go down to the Everglades in Florida. Totally keeps all bugs out. One item I just recently purchased for it is the ground cloth. It’s not inexpensive. Paid $70 for it. But it’ll allow me to set up the Ridgeline pole and the rain fly using the footprint ground cloth not needing to use the net at all.

That's great 👍 You're lucky, you caught me by the computer..LOL. I also bought mine from Catoma right before this video was made, a friend had one so I got this one 👍 Search my videos for "EBNS" and you'll see I also have the ground cloth too 😉 It's no big deal but I've had to reseal the seams on the rain fly 😉 I keep it handy if it's needed for an emergency shelter for one person if it's needed for some reason 👍 Like you say...you can throw it in a pack and off you go.....! Thanks for commenting.

Great project! I’m not sure why you needed to cut 3 pieces though. You could use one long piece. Fold the bottom up, leaving 1/5 for the top. Tape each open side. Position and add the Velcro. Fold over the top. Great idea. Just another option of how to complete it.
@SurviveN2
@SurviveN2 Жыл бұрын
The reason I used 3 pieces of the material I had was because the dimension wasn't enough side to side 😳 That kept me from going with one long piece. I was working with what I had. Like you say, 1 long piece would have been better 👍 In hindsight maybe I should have said something in the video about why I used the 3 the pieces of material and not 1 long one 🤔 oops! LOL

Thanks for the video. Just picked up one of these from komando store online and I was pretty perplexed as to it's supposed to fold back up and the instructions didn't help that much. My problem was the final fold, I didn't want to snap anything, but after seeing that it could handle the pressure I had no problems. I'm pretty surprised at the tension this thing is under. I guess the warning on the bag isn't pointless lol.

Well you taught this old dog a new trick Ray... Never seen one before - always used my wet-stone and keeping the blade 22 Deg to the stone for that perfect angle - I can see that by using these, then you at least know the blade is always at 22 Deg so long as you keep it verticle to the rods ;)
@SurviveN2

Your lucky and caught me sitting at the 'puter Michael 😜 This makes things easy to keep a good edge on blades 👍 I very seldom have to drag out my wet stones, I just grab this and in a few passes....the blade is back to scary sharp 😜 It's good to hear from you guy 👍
