It takes courage to do everything on your own. Most singers, especially female ones, accept to just turn in the the pretty face being told what to do by people who don't really care about your art. It might pay off in the short term, but you are turning into a marionette, a disposable one. Doing what you really want and like, being yourself and doing what you actually feel, keeps you in touch with what you really are, instead morphing you into what a"fan base", lured in by a professional marketing team, will make of you.
