This is very beautifully played....so much control, yet so much freedom. The second movement was tender but not maudlin. Very privileged to have played for this great lady years ago.....

La più bella interpretazione mai ascoltata! Alicia pianista divina ed immortale. ♥️

Whatever she played, she did it in a very convincing way! This early Schubert sounds very cheerful under her fingers, and there are lots of energy in it! Others may discover different colours and make this music sound more dreamy. But her approach is excellent!

+TheSparkyGuy ....difficult for a guy who cares about "advanced warfare" to understand Schubert, isn't it? :-)

I completely agree with you 👏🏼

Couldn't disagree more (1st movement that is), nothing "cheerful" to my ears, lazy and no energy, and RUINED! You call it dreamy, I call it BORING! Of course, the 2nd is supposed to be deeply introspective (even sorrowful) and who could play the fast 3rd better than our beloved Alicia? But I say she had a bad day when she recorded this 1st movement. I heard Lily Kraus play it live and she is the only one I've ever heard who played the 1st mvt up to tempo! I turn it off on all the rest before we get to the 2nd and 3rd because they ruined the whole thing by dragging the life out of the 1st movement. So, Alicia isn't alone in this slaughter - THEY ALL DO IT! I dare you to find a happy 1st movement on KZbin!

@@mikekarren5010 Hi merciless judge 😀I happen to have recorded this sonata some years ago. So I'm impatiently waiting to be "destroyed" by you as well 😂 kzbin.info/www/bejne/qH7MlZecmKeVodk

Schubert probably wrote this sonata a during the vacations of 1819 - he was 22 . Hence its mood, rathz=er simple and happy in spite of some moments of melancholy. We have here a fbulous rendering of these moods.

I like to agree. Franz Schubert still fresh and light-hearted. And Madame de Larrocha brings that out so beautifully.

katherineparadis, pghagen...I grant you Larrocha has "the touch" I have loved her playing all my life! But IMO (in my opinion) she joins the hosts of those who play this unspeakably beautiful sonata TOO SLOW! lisilsin, "moderato" doesn't mean "legato". Here is my offering of "a better way." Listen to the slightly faster performance by Pletnev, and how he also makes slight variations when he repeats...I say it's BETTER: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h3unnHZ_m6hlf68 I welcome your opinion as I have given mine. Also, I wonder if you've played this yourself and tried it just a little faster?

I never thought I could be bored with the great de Larrocha. BUT the markings on this 1st mvt says, "ALLEGO" it's not Andante, Adagio, or Lento! Quick, Lively. I think Schubert meant "joyful". Goodness sake, he was in love! WHY does everyone play this like it's a death march? I'm so frustrated! Are they any recordings of this up to tempo? BORING!

1st mvt says "Allegro MODERATO"!!!
