I have a voice Started out a whisper, turned into a scream Made a beautiful noise Shoulder to shoulder, marching in the street When you're all alone, it's a quiet breeze But when you band together, it's a choir Of thunder and rain Now we have a choice 'Cause I have a voice I'm not living to die Don't stand in a wasteland Look at me in the eye Stop living a lie And stand up next to me You've got to put one foot in front of another With a hand in a hand holding on to each other Go on and rejoicе 'Cause you have a voice It is loud, it is clеar It's stronger than your fear It's believing you belong It's calling out the wrong From the silence of my sisters To the violence of my brother We can, we can rage Against the river Feel the pain of another I have a voice I have a voice And I let it speak for the ones who aren't yet running free It's killing me No one's saying what we need to hear I will not let silence win When I see all the pain our people are in There's no other choice 'Cause I have a voice It is loud, it is clear It's stronger than your fear It's believing you belong It's for calling out the wrong From the mouths of our mothers To the lips of our daughters We can, we can dream Like our brothers speaking loud like our fathers We can, we can heal Can you hear us? Can you hear us now? I have a voice Started out a whisper, turned into a scream Made a beautiful noise Shoulder to shoulder, marching in the street When you're all alone, it's a quiet breeze When you're all alone, it's a quiet breeze But when you band together, it's a choir Of thunder and rain Now we have a choice 'Cause I have a voice Now we have a choice 'Cause I have a voice Now we have a choice 'Cause I have a voice

THIS to me is so powerful. When all is said and done, it is not the multiple tracks, the multiple synthesizers, and the auto-tune voice in always metrical 4/4 time signature, but rather, the heart of the song, what it means. This song carries so much. It says a lot without having to be bogged down by so many other tracks. This is clean, simple, melodic, and has great harmony that goes beyond the I and V chords. I am going to school for a Masters Degree in Music for Film and Television. One of my instructors has said to us, "Think deeply. Write simply." I don't mind a lot of pop songs with heavy use of auto-tune and multiple computer programs, it's good, but sometimes it's too much. What is the essence of the message?
@katiekat5197

This song was meant for this time. I gather it has a lot to do with LGBTQ and acceptance etc, but for me it's all about RIGHT NOW. Standing together during this world wide assault on all our freedoms. I cried listening to this. We will net be silent. We must stand together. God bless America.

When Brandi comes in I get transfixed. Her part in this song is impeccable. Alicia’s passion in her words gives me chills. The beautiful message brings tears to my eyes. Language was invented to hide the truth. However, using our voices we can begin to speak our power and truth. Especially women who have been silenced for too long in this world. Thank you for this beautiful song! 💛

Great comment and agree...except the part that “language was invented to hide the truth” Where did you get that from? Language came out of necessity for clarity. It was after its development that it became nuanced enough to be deceitful.

I found the "Language was invented to hide de truth" very interesting. It was developed to express complex ideas, and lies are a perfect example.
@mariec7092

@@Alphacentauri819 Language is used all the time by people to try to enforce 'views' onto others, aided by other tools of assertion and persuasion, and I find it almost always never clarifies anything, rather it degrades and messes up things. I can only imagine a silent society to be stronger, much more peaceful and healthy.
@Alphacentauri819
@Alphacentauri819 Жыл бұрын
@@mariec7092 that may be your opinion. When cognitive distortions, biases, warped interpretations, defense mechanisms, subconscious programming/conditioning are at play...and people have fear of conflict, and subsequently poor conflict management...then yes, much conflict (which was postured to be avoided) is amplified. However, stonewalling, is lack of saying anything...and has been shown (Dr Gottman's research) to be very destructive. Many people aren't taught how to use language well, for the greater good, how to come to common understanding/ground. Language is evolutionary, not only onto itself, but as a result of our species evolution. It did allow for greater cooperation for civilizations. Unfortunately it also allowed for destruction. Language isn't as much of an issue as the root issues that drive improper use. I used to work critical care and am now researching neuroscience (after 30 years of psychology study) and could write a thesis on this. Just inquire, get curious, dig deep to why/how you believe as you do, what happened in your formative years to influence your lenses, how confirmation bias plays a role, and how can you develop more metacognition and introspection regarding the subject. Play devils advocate and debate all sides, especially the ones you don't necessarily agree with. That zooming out, can help us develop a more balanced view and be less entrenched in our beliefs (which are often unquestioned conditioned repeated thoughts, on autopilot). I don't support absolute statements like "language was invented to hide the truth"...especially not when I understand where in the brain language, emotion, and so on is centered, evolved from and a the deep human desire to connect....as you see when a baby and mother are engaging in "language"....this is far from hiding truth, but an expression of connection.

truly beautiful. the lyrics speaking of lies, standing together hand in hand, and having a voice, 6 months into the only world shut down where we are all being told to socially distance, makes it pretty clear to me what they are singing about. the fact that I see no comments about that at all, makes me think censorship. and a team of women wrote it? Safety in numbers. Have they explained publicly what this song is about? I have never seen a song with that many writers.I am a songwriter.Here I am, using my voice ladies. Let's hope you tube honours the message in the song and leaves my comment right where I put it. Fantastic work, and you are the 2 warriors who would have the guts. I salute you :-)
