Hey all, it is 2018 - when are people ever going to learn to stop comparing?? Focus on the video, its purpose, up and coming muscians or at least keeping music alive and well through the young people as they pass on ALL types of music and artists: that one song sung by many may 'be the best" though that is not the point of this video or really life: take a garden, I love the daisy, "MY" favorite flower, not the BEST, or the CHOSEN flower over the others, cause I really love them all and I wouldn't want a whole garden of just dasies, that is not my style, I love variety. I live in Cambridge Ma where there are many students and others who when they pass me by and I hear either a whole different language or an accent, I consider myself lucky, I get to have a piece of the world without traveling, that goes for all the delicious resturants here also, yum. Come on guys, you can have your favorite____anything and that will never be taken away because someone else doesn't. Not sure of the average age here or on all of youtube - it disturbs me when the commnets get away from the video and (not counting the trolls who are just the most horrible lonley ass people who need the attention) so if your young, stop yourself now and let others have their opinion and for you older folks, like me, 69yrs old, you should be ashamed of yourselves: hope your still open to learning cause if we're here we don't have a lot of time to mess with stupid insulting comments, aren't we hear for the music!! Alicia has a beautiful voice, but not suitable for this type of music. It's just now... raw enough, does anyone follow me? Haha. She's so calm and I cannot enjoy music that's so chill when I want to sing along with Amy's music (although 'Valerie' is just a cover that she did, but much, MUCH better than the original). Not really because both of them are doing Soul music. What’s make differences is more their voice’s tone and the vocal technic. Whereas Amy got more a motown technic and vibe really deepened in the 50/60´sound, Alicia is more in the soft Soul and Neo Soul sound that’s more fiting with her voice. I really love both of them, I think they are both great !

@@hsmith1180 .... Thanks, I did read that (back then 9 yrs. ago). I was never a Amy fan in particular, but she even managed to polish up what the original was missing and make a hit out of it. Alicia is simply New York Gold IMO. However if you are a Zuton fan please enjoy further. We all need our own corner to feel happy. 😉

Amy would probably have loved, like most people. Alicia is still a very skilled singer. But I don't think many can go and play in Amy's playground. Even massively talented, her song suited the way she felt and the way she connect with music. Playing with the rythm, changing notes, just gently surfin on her music. I don't think many can copy that(although there is...probably)

I love Alicias voice, one of my all time favorites I think it is just beautiful. That being said, I agree that she isn't the most technically gifted vocalists, she doesnt have a range or clarity of a lot of artists especially the greats like Aretha or Etta. He talks about Amy being in Brooklyn and meeting the great musicians on 'Back To Black' for the first time. They do four or five takes of 'Valerie' at the original Zutons tempo. Just before they all leave - Mark says "can we try it in a tempo like 'You Can't Hurry Love' (Phil Collins). And, luckily for us all, history is made ....

ANY artist who covers Amy is just shooting themselves in the foot. I've heard so many try like Sam Smith, Jess Glynn, Troye Sivan.. and they just don't come anywhere close to how amazing Amy was, and it's so apparent when they cover her songs, especially when they try to sing it the same way. The ONLY artist I ever heard who sounded pretty good was Bruno when he covered Valerie at the VMA in 2011. But there will NEVER be anyone like Amy, ever. I love Alicia tho and I think she deserves some credit but if you cover someone else's songs, comparisons are going to happen. and if it's an AMY song it won't be pretty...
