I agree that they should make the floor bigger, at least for the elite gymnasts for the international-level competitions. It might be hard for a smaller gym with no elite competitors to afford a new and bigger floor. But we should definitely move in that direction. We're favoring the shorter girls (Simone Biles is 4'9") at the expense of girls of equal ability who happen to be taller.

Funny part about that is that Aly Raisman is actually a few centimeters taller that Alicia. She gets round just fine. It's just about control

That would also be a financial nightmare for almost EVERY SINGLE GYM. Most gyms who have elites only have 1. Also most elites ARE NOT FUNDED. Having an elite at your gym already sucks money from it. Also people like Jade Carey(who has the second highest scoring potential in the world), Catalina Ponor, and Aly Raisman who are/were amazing on floor, are all taller and had no issues. If it was just a floor vs height thing hindering people there would be waaaaaayy more people who were Simones height killing it. But lbr Simone pretty much steps into her passes.

Also a bigger, floor especially in elite means you can squeeze in more. You will literally end up with the exact same problem with people like Alicia, because people will try and take advantage of the floor and pack in more difficulty, which means longer tumbling runs.

It’s honestly a miracle Alicia had such a long career with USA Gymnastics. She was sooo unreliable and wild.

Jay Petrova but when she hits, it’s amazing. I put Alicia in the same catagory as Viktoria Komova on fx, and Aliya Mustafina on bb. They don’t constantly hit well, but when they do, its lights out.

She nailed 3 World Championships prior to single OG when she had set back, then proceeded to another successfull WC at 2010 and in 2011 looked pretty strong before the injury. How is that unreliable and wild? I know American commentators act like step out of bounds or even a fall at local meetings are a disaster, but come on. 😂

the out of bounds rule is so out of date. the degree of difficulty is much higher then it use to be and it is near impossible for some of these girls with intricate tumble passes to stay on the blue. Alicia's routine is one of my favorites!
