I got home from working my night shift while in senior year of high school. I put nick on the tv to eat dinner and this event started an they were doing a 3 episode attack of the fire nation. I was like this looks good to watch while I eat. I fell in love with the show then and there and went out and got season 1 on dvd. One of the happiest moments of my life.

I think one reason why it might be so easy to forget that Toph is blind is that as long as she's on solid ground she's essentially just colourblind, but otherwise can "see" better than most people.

I keep forgetting to comment that when Azula shows up so here we go Blue fire is not the result of higher temperatures alone, it's also caused by a complete combustion, when there's enough oxygen to ionize every fuel particle, this can be caused by hoter flames but that's not a rule (your stove is not burning hoter than a wild fire, it's just burning all of it's fuel without waste) Azula's fire is blue because she's a perfectionist, she create flames with perfect ionization, no wasted "fuel" (energy? Chi? Anger? What are they burning?) Other thing that causes fire to be different colors is the material being burned, when the "waste" shifts color because of the temperature, Salt is an example of material that creates blue fire, in this case Azula's fire is blue because she's a salty b!tch XD

I believe Iroh said in the early episodes of book one that Firebending comes from the oxygen inside the bender's lungs that get transformed into pure energy and go through the arms or legs or something like that, so is Azula like, using everything with each burst?

Toph brings up the fact that Iroh breached the Wall of Ba Sing Sei. Really makes me wonder if she knows she met him or not. She clearly realized that Azula hit the friend she made at the end of The Chase, but did she put everything together at that time to realize she had tea with the "Dragon of the West"? I like to think she did which really makes that moment a little better.

Nah I’d say that due to their high standing the Beifong family have access to news and current events, and an event like the siege of Ba Sing Se would have made headlines (figuratively speaking) so that’s how she knows about the Dragon of the West. That doesn’t mean she knows what he looks like, so I doubt that she knew who Iroh really was when they first met.

@@calebdavis5428 That's exactly what I was referencing in my comment. She clearly recognized that Iroh was the person she talked to and probably realized Zuko was his nephew. The question is does she realize that Zuko is the Fire Prince and Iroh is the Dragon of the West. It's never really clarified if she knows exactly who he is. I can see it being both ways. We don't even know if they traded names at the time. And even if he did give her a name, he may have just called himself "Mushi". So it's entirely possible that she knows of General Iroh who almost conquered Ba Sing Se, but doesn't know she met him.

Knowing the story of The Dragon of the West doesn’t mean you know who he is. Toph can’t even see who she’s talking to, how would she know who Iroh is? As far as she’s concerned, he’s just a stranger who was kind to her. At worst he’s got a semi evil Nephew, but other than that she knows nothing.

I've noticed how they set up the battles that way, so it's plausible she can stay with Aang. (That and his pacifism, which hampers already.) It's one of those really cool little details that make this show so interesting.

I doubt Aang being well rested would really change things. Azula is one of the best fire benders in the series. Better than Zuko at this time by a mile. And Aang has generally struggled with Zuko. He'd probably do better, but it likely wouldn't make too much of a difference.

If Azula had simply blasted the unconscious Aang with fire from a distance, the Fire Nation would have won right then and there. Fortunately for Aang, Azula is a sadist, she went for the up close and personal kill, giving him time to wake up.

The Fire Nation is a steampunk nation in a medieval world. The Mechanist is the only person outside it who seems to have any interest in advancing technology. For now. And if I'm not mistaken, the Drill's commander is the same Fire Nation Commander who was collecting the Mechanist's work. And made off with the War Balloon. So while mustering them might be premature until the Drill punches through at least the first wall, shouldn't they be cutting to Fire Nation troops ready to storm through the breach? The Dragon of The West? That's Iroh. He and the men under his command were the only ones to breach through direct force. Until today. Sokka's also the tech guy of the group. Related history trivia, Cleopatra's social asset wasn't her looks, but actual social skills. Very well educated and spoke multiple languages. She was a witty conversationalist. Jet's trying to shape up, but getting out of old ways of thinking is not easy. "For a wise old man, that was a pretty stupid move." I mean, how many guys does Tai Lee see with any degree of recurrence? That's how I look at it. Mei doesn't fold. She has her lines. I mean, Katara didn't just have a part of her identity suppressed, but her very muscles were put in sleep mode. That's got to feel very unnerving. She's understandably angry. This man has no plan and was assuming victory before his men got trounced by a teenager who can't even bend. Sustained attack is the best he can think of. All the elements could be invaluable for industrial applications. Only one nation could be considered any degree of industrialized though, and that's the Fire Nation. Keep in mind, Aang only knows three and of the four, and only air is close to mastery. In this moment, Azula has less patience than Zuko and Zhao. They sought to capture the Avatar. Not just for prestige, but to prevent having to track thee next down. Admittedly, the Fire Nation came close to beating the Water Tribe already, and the drill is breaching the Earth Kingdom capital, but still. And so, the impregnable city survives another battle.

Azula's instincts are to torment anything and everything capable of feeling pain - including her friends and family - so AZULA IGNORE YOUR INSTINCTS! I'd have gone for the exhaust or cooling pipes of the inner machinery. At worst the crew will be able to shut the machines down in time to prevent catastrophic failure, but even that would stop the drill and buy plenty of time. And at best they don't notice it in time and the whole thing blows up. Of course that would probably incinerate the majority of the crew so not all that well suited for what is still technically a show aimed at children I suppose.

One thing I've noticed is the continuity. Toph's Dust Cloud is one of those things they could have easily forgot to animate the same way. But instead, Toph does the cloud the same way in this episode as she did in the Earth Rumble episode. It really drives home that form has a greater importance in Earthbending then the other Bendings. Kind of highlights the gap for people like Bumi to take such a form driven style of bending that is hyper sensitive to being predictable and making it the opposite.
