every single time that I watch this episode I cant help but love how much the writters paid attention to make a contrast between the air nomads lifestyle and the earth kingdom lifestyle, that thing was never forgotten, they're opposite elements and so they have opposite ways of life and to see the world, the earth people are more grounded and material, while the air people are more "free" and spiritual, the earth people like to fixate somewhere (just like a rock) and build hierarchies and base themselves around an economy and have their own money, the air people like to be everywhere, they're nomads afterall, they go around the world to obtain knowledge and they dont have an hierarchy, children and adults live in the same place and there is no such a thing like an Air King or Air Nobles, the only "authority" figure in the air nomads are the old sages because they've have experience, and yet they also understand that having lived for long enough doesnt mean that you're always gonna be right, which make them not so much of an absolute power, its heavy implied that basically anyone could get in a civilizated discussion with the air sages to debate their choices regarding the children or the food or what not, Gyatsu was going to talk with the sage monks to have them rethink the decision to send Aang away so early, and considering the fact that it is a very dumb decision to send a child around the world without any maturity just because said kid is basically peak airbender aint that smart, chances are he probably would've managed to either convice the sages to have Aang wait a little bit or send Aang together with an guardian figure or something of the sort to accompany him man this is why ATLA is one of my favourite shows, its basically 5 shows in one, when you're a kid you can see one thing, when you're a teen you see another, as an adults its a whole new show and as an old man its another one; There is a bunch of layers that you can see through the older you get yet it isnt an adult show, Kids can have fun with it and so can teens, adults and old people, everyone can love avatar for the same or for different reason, watching Avatar at least once in every stage of your life in a hell of an experience since everytime you watch it you notice something different
@karnewarrior9 ай бұрын
To be fair, Gyatsu was ALSO an Air "sage" so it's not like he was speaking up to power. Just horizontally with his comrades. I do agree though, the Air Nomads seemed to have a very horizontal and flat society, where the Earth Kingdom has a highly stratified and vertical one.

He KNOWS Iroh is a firebender, and to be completely honest, how would he know if they were trying to start new lives or just infiltrate the city? He tells smellerbee essentially why he’s doing it, he doesn’t want any one else to lose family to the war like they had. He’s a powder keg yeah, but ultimately he is correct, If team avatar saw them you don’t think sokka would say the same thing? He’s also obsessed with this war.
