@@ill_Hex Well there’s also the fact that legally-speaking they straight up weren’t allowed to call her the Scarlet Witch. When this movie was made Fox still owned the movie rights to the mutants, and while Marvel Studios were able to negotiate a deal to use them in the MCU, they weren’t allowed to use the names Scarlet Witch or Quicksilver. WandaVision was the first project to be made after the Disney-Fox deal, so they were allowed to use the name in that.

Just a clarification: The stone the Guardians had was The Power Stone. It's full of power juice, trying to hold it without being a powerful being will zap you into dust. Alicia not sure if you knew this about Jeremy Reiner (Hawkeye), but a year or so ago, he actually got the chance to be an IRL Hero! One day during the winter, a snow plow was heading towards his kid-nephew. Jeremy leaped into action, pushing his nephew away, but he got ran over by the snow plow. By the miracle of God Himself, Jeremey not only survived, but he is now back to full recovery after spending months and months in intensive care and physical therapy. Robert Downey Jr. also had his IRL hero moment (kinda sorta) when he delivered a robotic prosthetic arm to a little boy who was a big Iron Man fan. The arm itself was also colored to look like Iron Man’s arm. Robert Downey Jr. dressed up like Tony Stark and delivered it to the kid in a fancy Stark Industries case. These movies, I feel, brought the best in a lot of these actors. Turning them into IRL heroes in a way. Love it.

James Spader, the actor who played Ultron was truly there in the scenes, when he became his own full robot form, Elisabeth Olsen, the actress of Scarlet Witch, couldn’t stop looking at his performance, but she had to look at a ball high above Spader’s head for where Ultron’s head would be, for if she looked at Spader’s actual face: she would have been looking at Ultron’s groin… and due to how good Spader is as an actor, it was difficult not to look him in the eyes

Hey man, he's strong. If you squeeze any electrical device hard enough in the right place, pretty sure you'll break it enough where it shuts off. Metal robot in a humanoid form? You go for the joints since they are designed like a human and thus have them less armored for needed mobility, most likely areas of weakness to be attacked. And operating on similar humanoid logic, head housing the "supercomputer" that is the brain, you go for neck, break/bend it enough to hit that key bit of wiring or circuitry to cut the power off.

During the party, that Asgardian drink that Thor brought was probably the closest thing that made Cap drunk since before he took the supersoldier serum (since one of the things the serum did was enhance his metabolic rate to the point where alcohol doesn’t do anything to him). 2. Ultron’s cheek circle things sometimes retract whenever he gets a little too angry, which is last I checked, a lot more accurate to his comic design, where he has no cheeks. A very small detail that I just realized: The Bartons named their youngest kid Nathaniel or "Nat" after Natasha, which is really sweet when you know that she can't have children because of her training in the Red Room. More subtlety to show just how close Clint and Nat are. Also, "Robot".

Your reaction to the Natasha and Bruce "monster" dialogue really got me. I remember that scene eventually got a bit of a backlash because people questioned a female lead thinking they where a monster cause they couldn't have a kid. Which isn't the point they were trying to make in my opinion. I always took it as men took that decision from her. Took away her control of her own body. I thought it was a genuinely heartbreaking scene, though I do also understand how people might have taken it a different way.

This movie had a very different purpose than the first avengers movie. That movie was the culmination of bringing together a bunch of individual heroes. This one was about setting up what is to come. And oh my god does it do that well. You won't see lots of it until the later movies when it pays off, because that is how setups work, but so much of what is to come traces back to this movie. After the first Avengers I think there was a 'what next?' moment after they pulled that off... something that hadn't really been done in cinema before. They realized they had to set it up again where they had a bunch of individual films and they all were building toward something and they had to figure out how to do that. On a seperate note, I think it is interesting how much people miss that Ultron was not Tony's fault. The mind stone has been in the staff this whole time. It was given to Loki for a purpose and what became Ultron was in it then (it wasn't just the mindstone itself, that is why Vision is so different than Ultron). What was to become Ultron was in the first Avengers movie as well, it was manipulating their emotions and minds cause them to fight one another in the scene in the lab where Banner ends up holding the scepter. You can see Thor trying to shake off the effect and the camera work is great to show what it is doing. Then in this one, Tony is trying to get an interface to what is already in there. He had protocols and what he would like the Ultron program to be, but he never got close to creating it. He did name it though. So when what becomes Ultron utilized that link (it had control, not him) it sorted through what he had intended for it... but it wasn't beholden to that. It was influenced by that though... but it is its own thing put there by the guy at the end of the movie. That's why when it didn't work for taking down the Avengers clearing a way for his real purpose, he says, "Fine. I'll do it myself." He has been behind the Chitari armies and sending Loki to get him the Tesseract. The reason he would let the scepter with the mindstone out of his possession (seems out of character otherwise) was to get what becomes Ultron down to earth. So he was behind both Avengers movies so far. And the end credit indicates he is coming himself, a guy powerful enough to feel confident giving away an infinity stone for his plans. I don't think people give him enough credit for how crafty he is. Anyway... this is why it bugs me later when people will make the argument that what happened to Sakovia in this movie is Tony's fault. I think he had a lot less to do with Ultron than people say. He named him and he (and Bruce) opened the door which allowed Ultron to take over his bot manufacturing.

In the comics, Ultron is not as... well childish, and was acting out of the cold logic that Humanity cannot be saved and must be destroyed. Here, they leaned into the idea of him being a newborn entity whose suffered severe information overload, Tony also didn't help create him, that role was Hank Pym's (Ant-Man). As a result his characterization here divided a number of viewers who felt it diminished his presence and intimidation as an existential threat. Them setting up Hydra as an ongoing threat only to deal with them mostly offscreen and kill off Strucker here, also split fans, as it again removed a threat with a lot more potential.

Hawkeye is an interesting character. Starts out a pretty serious criminal, gets recruited as sort of a scout sniper type for SHIELD. Later joins the Avengers as a lesser member, still does a lot of heroic things, but is more of a second tier guy still doing a lot of the scouting and then sniping for the primaries in the Avengers. Sort of fades in and out of the team as needed. Honestly thought it was sort of weird that they made him a major secondary character in the Avenger films as he's still sort of just around, being helpful, but really just sort of a backup guy.

As for Hawkeye, I am glad you liked him a bit more at the end of the movie than the beginning. You were really giving him the short stick. You have to remember he wasn't in other movies much. He was an easter egg in Thor and then was mind controlled by Loki's scepter for most of the first Avenger's movie. We didn't really have a chance to get to know him. I think they realized they did his character a bit dirty in the first movie as a result and this one definitely gives him the spotlight a bit more. I love his and Natasha's relationship. I love that he is a family man. He has the same 'not actually a superhero' thing that Nat does in that he has no powers, just amazing training and natural skill. He is also an older guy in comparison... frankly that and the family man part make him my representation in the movies! lol. Anyway... yeah, not a main Avenger, but I still like him and think he is a good character. Not boring to me. This movie was very good indeed :) It might feel different, tho, cuz this one gets into more personal matters for the Avengers. Iron Man's anxiety spiraling into bad choices (like creating the big bad villain), Banner's personal relationship with Natasha, Cap trying to be the moral compass of the team (altho he doesn't get a lot to work with in this film other than "ultimate good guy"), Clint having a freaking family... while also Thor doing a lore dive into the Infinity Stones. The movie does bank a lot on you KNOWING these characters already, so they don't go a lot into things previously established. So that's why, while the story of Ultron is interesting to explore and the new personal things introduced in the film are interesting, it may feel like this movie is like a sort of "drive by station", an in-between stop into the journey ahead. It's more like a connection point of several stories coming together before divulging again, so the movie doesn't exactly have its own identity. The first Avengers relied on the WOW! factor of the previous movies' stars coming together for the first time, which worked well in its favor, considering this had never been done before on this big a scale. In THIS film... that WOW! factor card has already been played. And they try to make up for it with a lot of additional character writing and world building, but that doesn't create an identity for the film and story. Furthermore... Ultron is just a tad bit boring 'xD I mean, don't get me wrong, there's a lot to like about him. His imposing stature, James Spader's sick fcking voice, how hard he is to destroy, he's very cool by design. Just... the writing direction for him is off. If he's so set on humanity's extinction, there's tons of different ways to do that. Why pick this random-ass poor Russian town and turn it into a meteor, when there's way less convoluted, way more efficient ways of creating chaos and destruction? One malicious malware code into Russia's security system, one nuke fired at an American city, it's enough to cause a chain reaction leading to humanity's annihilation. Granted, the entire world would be upside-down which could complicate future movie stories, but the AVENGERS are in his way. They could save the world from its own technology... Or another way Ultron could viralize himself: destroy the Internet. If Ultron fried global servers for the web, turning it into his own personal navigation network to move around the world, the death toll would be enormous (think like medical equipment tied to the Internet, or banks and their financial systems, or schools, or self-driving vehicles-) and his plans of extinction are one step closer. I dunno, Ultron could have posed a FAR greater threat than he turned out to be. For a hostile AI, he was remarkably non-viral. Which I think is a disservice to his character. Overall, this movie was fun... but it's indeed not as great as the first.
