@Blewlongmun7 ай бұрын
I was never a big fan of Kurapika because it felt like he got very strong offscreen and then vanished from the story but on re-watch I think he's significantly less powerful than he initially seems. Uvo was meant to test his strength vs someone in Zetsu but with that ability locked to the spiders Kurapika falls into the same category as the dude who cloned himself. The training with Bisky supports this, his Nen won't compound properly putting so much time into enhancement.

@ErrrEok7 ай бұрын
@@Blewlongmun You have totally misunderstood. Kurapika really is as strong as he seemed to you at first, even MUCH stronger (taking into account the current situation of the manga). Kurapika does not lose any potential, since he has two Nen categories, Conjurer and Special. Therefore, he has two Hatsus, Cadenas and Emperor Time. Kurapika uses both hatsus at the same time, where one of them (ET) allows him to use 100% of all Nen categories. He is not even remotely similar to Kastro, who developed a hatsu completely removed from his category. Regarding his improvement in Nen, on the contrary, Kurapika is the one who can improve much more. He explains it himself, his ability to control the other Nen categories increases proportionally to his own abilities. He only remembers the power that he demonstrated with less than 6 months of training, reaching the level of Ryodan, who are above the Elite. He imagines how much he could improve with all this time.
@Blewlongmun7 ай бұрын
@@ErrrEok But how does that correlate to training? Having potential doesn’t mean he has skill which is my point with Bisky. Training as an enhancer means training emition and transmutation 2nd and summoning and manipulation 3rd, even if he has the aptitude for it he’ll never overcome an individual of a certain category because they can focus their training around that ability. Kurapika has 2 hatsu, 5 chains, and 6 categories he needs to train equally, compared to just an enhancer he’ll fall behind in the long-run without some other equalizer. Consider Uvo again, Kurapika’s 100% Ko was by his words just barely stronger than Uvo’s pure physical strength in Zetsu. He’s not exactly like Castro because he does have the talent for it but his scenario itself will require significantly more training than anyone else. If not, that just puts every reason I dislike him back on the list, it feels real weird to place specific restrictions and then Kurapika magically breaks those rules off-screen.

To clarify, Emperor Time isn't as broken as it's made out to be. Kurapika is a Conjurer, so ordinarily it'd be difficult for him to learn Enhancer abilities, and borderline impossible for him to learn any kind of practical Emission or Manipulator abilities, because the overall efficiency of each one decreases by about 20% for each category you go over on the chart, and Conjurers and Manipulators have it the worst by being on the extreme ends of the spectrum, only being able to use the opposite category at 1/5th its potential. What Emperor Time actually does is let Kurapika use each category at 100% efficiency as if it was his natural affinity, which makes him extremely versatile but not a true master of any category outside of Conjuration as that's the one he's most experienced with, and it shows because his Healing Thumb ability provides incredible restorative properties, but he's using it as a healing item rather than a power boost like Uvogin would with his Big Bang Impact, and that's a byproduct of how Kurapika thinks; instead of making a weapon out of his chains that would be strengthened using the powers of an Enhancer, he's thinking like a Conjurer and creating an item out of Nen with special properties like a Transmuter would, which makes sense because he has a better grasp of Transmutation because it's adjacent to Conjuration. This is also why it's possible for him to become a Specialist; ordinarily Specialist is a category unto itself that can't be learned and obeys its own particular set of rules, but those most likely to be able to develop a Specialist ability or somehow become Specialists later in life are Manipulators and Conjurers, whereas it's basically impossible for an Enhancer to develop a Specialist ability. That being said, these are guidelines, not ironclad rules, and part of the fun of watching and reading Hunter X Hunter is trying to work out all the little details, as there are exceptions and peculiarities throughout the series, like Kurapika being able to temporarily become a Specialist and use a Specialist ability due to a biological and psychological quirk unique to him, although you're still right to think Emperor Time is really damn strong, because having access to at least 5 different Nen abilities is very powerful. If Kurapika was more self aware and willing to completely abuse this power to break the system or wasn't so single-minded in his quest for revenge against the Phantom Troupe, he'd probably be one of the strongest Nen users in the series.

Condition. 99% of what will end up mattering when you consider the power of Nen is Condition. Kurapika is basically born with a Condition = Power setup in his own genes. Only if he is psychotically angry enough for his eyes to go red can he get access to his Specialist powers. It's highly likely that the Kurata Clan, even not knowing consciously about Nen, were unkowingly taking advantage of this very power, which is IMO the best explanation to why the Phantom Troupe, broken that they are, would have possibly rememebred them as a "strong opponent." Look at the way a single member of the Troupe mows through a literal army armed with guns and anti-tank missiles when wielded by non Nen users. The Kurata must have all been broken like Kurapika for Uvo to remember them as putting up a fight.

A possibility, but while their are bloodline affinities, I'm not certainly that a specialist affinity would make sense, as by definition either being/becoming a specialist, or obtaining a specialist ability is an abnormality that breaks the normal rules. Emperor Time is also extremely specific to Kurapika: he was obsessed with sacrificing himself to avenge his people; was told his biology was an obstacle to that; then awakened an ability that consumed his life to overcome his biology, with a trigger condition that required him to be in the state he associated most with his rage for his enemies. For all Kurta to have that ability would be a callosal coincidence.

I'd say it's the reverse, in that you develop hatsu you need Emperor Time to use and the cost of that is far higher than the anime ever explains. It's incredibly powerful, as it gives you potential that's overwise impossible, but the cost makes it never worth it.
@Unspecifiedweeb7 ай бұрын
@@TheArcSet yes that's exactly what I am saying. Due to the limitations, while he theoretically could develop a hatsu that uses enhancement or emition, it's not really worth it, thus the ability isn't that powerful. Even when not taking into account the effects on his lifespan revealed later on... just knowing that it significantly drains him is enough for one to realize that he probably wouldn't be able to make full use of the 100% efficiency when developing other hatsus. It's an ability that sounds way more OP than it actually is.

Thanks for this raection. A savage scene. (And to clarify again, the eyes don't have any ability, them being red is just a lesser condition to activate Emperor Time.)

Kurapika absolutely has hacks but I appreciate that just having hacks wouldn't have been enough to win, he also played smart with those hacks to maximize the impact and he's specifically running a nen build that hard counters the phantom troupe members. Also seeing this makes me wonder how Kurapika would have stacked up against Killua during the hunter exam. He never really got to show off his combat skills there.

There is still a lot for you to learn, but I'll just say this for now - was I the only one who felt like Uvo was borderline goading Kurapika into attacking him when I first saw this one? It would be unorthodox, but man, you really should just do manga reaction to HxH after you are done with anime, lol - not like any of us living long enough to see season 2

I’m a big fan of this episode in the old Hunter x hunter anime. It’ll be cool if you guys check out that scene Sometime, I remember it hitting me pretty hard.

You know...? I never realized that before, but yeah... It IS kinda fucked that Kurapika is already able to heal people when Leorio is the one going through medical school for that...

Maybe I'm just dumb but Kurapika can just VIEW anyone as part of the Phantom Troupe or Spider and he is unstoppable. If he can do that I mean....

I really liked uvo and the rest of the phantom troupe, sure a group of murderers and psychos but shizu is bad as hell, and all the other troup members really mesh well with one another and it shows how expericed they all are

That is not respect, you guys don't understand: He brought a shovel to the fight. He knew he was gonna put this dude six feet under so he prepared the tools to do it in advance. Actual gangster behavior don't ever even breathe in his direction.

The information about the nen condition is very important not sure if you picked up on what it ment, Kurapikas chains during emperor time is only OP against the troupe members as per his condition, should he break that vow the chain in his heart will kill him. Kurapika is much smarter about nen than the other 3 but he is only precived much stronger at this point because of his abilites against the troupe.
