It is good practice to replicate your raft in a "Creative Mode" world and tweak it there for future upgrades, that way you get an idea on what to do next in your actual world without the hassle of making mistakes on your raft.

I tend to do a fairly boring rectangle, around 7x9, I then work toward adding two more floors as the game progresses. The idea being that in the early game an anchor is the center of my raft, with storage, smelters and grill next to it. It is small enough to be powered by one engine, and still has width for a couple animal pens. As I get further along, the raft grows I add stairs and grow upward, giving me space for bedrooms and a kitchen, moving the smelters and other valuables to the second floor, then the trees and animals end up on the top/3rd floor with the sail and receiver. I tend to use the state of my primary wood storage as the indicator of when it is time to start on the next floor, but I frequently set the stairs and pillars well before I start on the floors. It makes them easy to work toward, with obvious steps, and gives me covered space to grow things, as well as space that is safe from the shark.

Yep I have the exact same troubles hence now why I make a square with a higher platform, collection net scooper line up front and call it a day until I get all the blueprints, then I fit the raft around the machinery.

Gonna make some survival breakpoints on how to get here while building as we go utilizing some of the space saving ideas from the smaller builds. Would love to see follow up on how the tech tier upgrades effect/evolve design, like a Pokémon evolution tree! Incorporating farm, or engines, or even how to build from this starter tier to the mid game tugboat to late game or endgame Dreamliners.

Watched a few of your vids and now Wood is no longer an issue. I can fish in peace for food now, every time I turned around that damn shark was tearing my raft up. I couldn't gain hardly a step. Will upgrade to a bigger ship as time goes by but this will get me sailing.

Loved this raft. I've been working on figuring out a reasonable build to do when I start a playthrough with my gf, and this is some good inspiration. I'd love to see a build that perhaps has stages in mind, with some level of aesthetic design through the stages, and consideration for the raft lifecycle. Anyway, keep up the good work, loving the content!

I'm a late comer. Recently discovered the game, and recently discovered you. I've done your steamboat, your three "starter rafts" for early game play, and now this one. I really like this one. You are quite creative. Most of my rafts wound up very ... very ... boxy but taking what I've learned from you, I built a gargantuan Container Ship (that wound up also being a passenger liner ... turned out very large b/c I was going after a design I saw with an extremely high hull and waay overestimated how many people crewed one ... but anywho) -- so I appreciate what you do. Thanks.

This design gives me really nice ideas on how to make my raft look more homely, more real. Thanks! (-: On starter rafts, I use a lot of diagonal walls in the corners to give more of a hut feel. They are also great to hide things like antennas behind. I also tend to make a chimney above my smelter area: slanted roof with one square in the middle half-walled up one extra level. The hut feel is nice if you want to go for more of a floating village deal than a ship.

I found this build a little while ago and I've been playing around with it a bit. I like it much better then the lovecraftian horror my raft usually turns into. One thing you can do to save space on the inside is instead of having the normal permanent anchor instead have a disposable anchor you can place next to where you had the grill. It saves space and is fairly cheap. Just doing that let me shift things around and I have a small space I can have a couple animals. I'm now working on tweaking your original design bit by bit so it works well with a second player as I'll be playing with a friend. Thanks for making your build easy to follow.

Good evening, thank you for the raft build and ideas, if I ever get that many resources I might steal some of them. I just have to say though I don't think the Raft game I am playing is the same as yours. You specify that after one hour's play it should be possible, even easy, to get; 31 Stacks of Planks 5 Stacks of Plastic 5 Stacks of Palm Fronds 5 Stacks of Scrap 6 Stacks of Nails 7 Stacks of rope 18 Dry Bricks 10 Glass 7 Metal Ingots 9 Hinges 3 Bolts 5 Circuit Boards 2 Stones + flowers in the last 4 days I have done nine new starts and of them all the best outcome after an hour is dying of starvation on an island trying to cut down a tree for coconuts with a 3 foundation raft, 1 simple purifier, one simple grill no hook, a spear that is nearly broken and three stacks of planks, 1 plastic (not one stack just 1), 3 palm fronds, one plastic cup and a nail.

I'm thinking the same thing. I've played this game for weeks and I'm barely half way through making this raft. lol. Most of my time is spent trying to generate enough food to keep from starving. The grinding is strong in this game. Not that I mind that much. I think I must be doing something wrong.

If you put a triangle floor on a beam and set the sail turned sideways you can destroy the triangle floor and most of the time the sail will stay. This is great for doing double sails. I have 3 sails on my pirate ship with crows nests and run ziplines between them and to the front of the ship.

You should be able to gather all of the materials within about an hour- hour and a half. It's kinda similar to Minecraft in the way that you need things to build something other than a dirt hut. As far as building time, that depends on player comfort. It took me about 15 minutes!

What annoys me about the game is you have to beat the game to get the blueprints to build a good base with water,filters,bios,animals. By the time I build a base to the story locations it looks horrible but functional. I can never get the building down quickly enough before I finish the game. Then after you beat the game there's no goal so 🤷
@Oluz19752 жыл бұрын
Not every playthrough needs to be a speeedrun. If you're finishing the game before you've built a nice boat, then that's your problem. Maybe after you beat the game, build a nice boat as a goal...
@Mapleaple2 жыл бұрын
@@Oluz1975 I need the blurprints. The most important ones are story items. Its very difficult to build a useless base without the utility items. Its like building a house with no plumbing,electricity, then later have to cram it into the house you made.
@rustyhowe39072 жыл бұрын
@@Mapleaple That's where I use the creative mode and then copy over the design to a proper game using paint to colour certain areas (the same as Ali does) to dedicate that space for a machine, then I can also have pre-made a raft that's say...1 1/2 walls high so I can fit the plumbing and fuel pipes where it's supposed to go (in my case along the ceiling) without tripping over it all the time. Then I build a preliminary tacticool raft with all my contraptions before making it pretty, this part isn't necessary seeing my end goal is enjoying the end game raft thus maybe not the case for you, but the raft can then fit your blueprints while also being functional and aesthetic as it gives you the options to go at your own pace. It's ok to delay a few oddments until you're ready (in my case; those blasted animals, but I am collecting dirt in the meantime for them later on when *I'm* ready, not when the game tells me I should). Hope that helps a little.

It´s really well thought out if you want a minimalistic playstyle. But getting bigger without destroying the original design is an issue here. it´s perfect for speedrunners i guess. For someone who would want animals, enginges and advanced food and smoothies and all the other stuff you can do, this is not a good start tbh. Still a nice build.

Looks nice, but for me inefficient and expensive, compared to my raft. Foundation is just 4x4, where one row is catchers. Then need only fortify 10, along just enough room for devises that must be on foundation level. Space for an engine too. Build in the height, so far only need 2 more floors. Top floor for farms and animals, middle for all other devices. Have in one corner of middle floor a 3x3 room for bees or piano or whatever. The walls outside then can be used for storage boxes, 16 on one wall. Can fit 12 smelters in another corner. Another a dining area. Last corner for food and helm and radar and research. Later on I expand the catchers on one side and fortify them, using rectangles that get removed after and no material loss. When long enough then set up zip lines to get to the end and collect running back. Easy to expand up or to the sides, if needed. Have never tipped over. Use the anchor as stairs, fits a sail too. For two persons, unless add a floor and have a bunch.

How is this "starter" yet you have to have all these building recipes that you don't get til later? What do you mean Chapter 3? Raft isn't a narrative game. It's a sandbox where you have to explore to find the story, the story isn't given to you in chapters. ???????? This still an excellent build tho. Will use when get game.
