Director's Cut. It is longer but the additional footage really adds to the story.

I agree that Director's cut is the one. I might add that the DVD-version is the best. The Bluray version looks very plastic and stylized.

But Ripley was originally written as a man. The gender really has nothing to do with the character. Ripley was going to do and say the same things, either as man or woman.
@bretcantwell49214 ай бұрын
@@trhansen3244As a man, no. Ripley was much better as a female, Sigourney is amazing and Aliens would not have been the same.
@richardhodgson67114 ай бұрын
@trhansen3244 actually, none of the roles were written with a specific gender in mind. Dan O'Bannon and Ron Shussett have both said that all of the humans could have been either male or female, depending on the producers preference

A father and daughter team are boarding the "Nostromo." How will the daughter react to this "old, slow-moving, character-centered, no-CGI" movie? 4:04 The Company is sending the equivalent of a freighter crew to "do science" on an unexplored planet! 5:25 Savvy viewers saw Ash's "calisthenics" as suspect. 7:35 The Space Jockey, a mystery for decades. 8:40 Second Officer Kane = Zapp Brannigan. 9:22 How's THAT for a jump scare? 9:50 This conversation has become iconic due to recent events. 10:35 The Face Hugger, grossing out audiences for decades 10:50 Acid Blood is why they don't "just cut it off him." 12:00 A Props dept. work of ART, made of sea animals. 12:39 Kane's last meal. 13:02 The Xenomorph, scaring audiences for over 40 years. 12:32 Along came Jones. 13:58 Say hello to Bolaji Badejo. 15:40 You're in command, Ripley. 16:47 In 1979, this was my "WTF? Ash ISN'T Human!?" moment. 17:42 Most didn't see this coming. 19:08 I've read that Lambert is standing in for us, the audience. 19:35 That's a Stinger. 20:33 Escape route cut off, stop Destruct to gain time for Plan B. 24:31 Tonight's entree on the shuttle "Narcissus" is Steamed Xenomorh in Shell. 25:03 Correction, Char-Broiled Xenomorph. This and the next movie made newcomer Sigourney Weaver into a major star. Along with Linda Hamilton of "The Terminator" (1984), they became Action movie badasses. "Jennifer Lawrence"? Who is that?

The unfortunate part of instant access to the internet, TikTok, etc makes people especially younger ones expect instant gratification. I wonder if they skip foreplay too. Us older people like to understand the location, environment, characters, before anyone gets murdered.
@mayaandgareth2 ай бұрын
@@jontastic it's unstoppable an truth that every generation feels like subsequent generations lack attention spans and only want instant gratification, I read a delightful news article from 1951 claiming that kids attention spans where plummeting due to comic books and the advent of television. You can find similar articles from the 90s saying the same about cable tv and then again with the initial rise of the internet. "faster and more intense" to quote George Lucas The wonderful thing about getting older is having the opportunity to show younger folk what came before and teaching them to appreciate all the artistry that went into creating these older stories. One of Maya's biggest take aways from this whole channel has been how amazing a lot of the older special effects are when compared to what Hollywood is currently putting out, and just generally how satisfying so many of these stories are when put up against a lot of what is currently being made. So we can either berate the youth, or show them the good stuff :)

The funny thing is that an early version of the script suggested that the crew engaged in casual sex as a way to pass the time. This is part of why Lambert's death (played by Cartwright) is suggestive. It was going to be a lot more so. Most of the explicit sexual stuff was removed, but a lot of suggestive elements do remain. So Maya isn't wrong to see all this; it was there intentionally.

On the 3 explosions, yes, it was 70s special effects, but I believe the Nostromo or the ore it was hauling had three lobes or sections.. Veronica Cartwright's scream when the chest burster emerged from Kane (as it did with the Space Jockey in the alien ship) was more explosive than the cast was expecting, and when the goo sprayed up on her face, it unexpected and a sincere reaction.

How pathetic is it to bitch about stuff that you get entirely free of charge while hiding behind your anonymity. Losers (most of whom would have spelled that as “loosers”). By today’s standards this movie is pretty slow, and kudos to the young lady for toughing it out. I would say on horror movies in the future you might get a better experience by watching at night, or in the dark etc. That being said, you run your channel however you see fit, and I enjoyed the video quite a bit.

What you called slow is really suspense. It's built up to create atmosphere, anticipation, and fear. Not every movie is meant to be just nonstop action every second. Films with pacing like this are meant to fill you with dread at what may be hiding behind the corner or lurking behind you. As far as the underwear scene, I watched it so many times as a kid I nearly burnt the whole in the VHS tape of it I had. You could see where I paused it for prolonged periods because the footage would get really grainy and shudder at specific times during that scene. Sorry for being such a horned up kid but can't really blame me. Imagine being a young innocent watching a really scary movie with an attractive woman in it. Then seeing that attractive woman all of a sudden wearing next to nothing. Then bending over and doing leg kicks. I was only human.
