The reason the cat reacted to the alien was that they had a piece of cardboard and when they pulled it away there was a German shepherd there.

I saw this movie when it first came out in 1979 (I was 22 at the time). The trailer played on TV - it's on KZbin if you want to check it out. Some people say it's the best movie trailer ever made. There were two ladies in the office where I worked who saw it before I did. They let the cat out of the bag about the chest burster scene. When I walked into the theater with my boyfriend I was already scared. The opening title scenes gave me the creeps right away. I've lost count of how man times I've seen this movie. I love it that much.

@@videovillagereactions - There are two versions of Aliens (1986), the theatrical version and the longer special edition version (with extra deleted scenes added back in)....The director, James Cameron prefers the longer version over the studio edited shorter theatrical cut (but that is his own personal preference though). No matter which cut is watched (I actually enjoy both versions in my opinion - I do feel that the special edition adds some more character depth/development & has more little character moments...but if want more faster paced, like a roller coaster ride, the theatrical version definitely does that too), it is a great movie all around (Sigourney Weaver was even nominated for her performance as Ripley in it...and it shows 😁). Hope y'all check it out 😎 The first two Terminator films (all the other sequels are a mixed bag IMO - some I enjoyed and others not so much) are also some of my favorite films as well. The first Terminator film can be kind of creepy in some ways - after all it is about cyborg from the future that won't stop until it completes its mission to murder Sarah Connor (...I won't spoil anything about the rest of the movie or the sequel either 🤐), but they are Arnold Schwarzenegger classics and both films are also loaded with action as well 💥. Those two Terminator films are definitely worth a watch IMO. 👍👍 Can't wait for more reaction videos (including Titanic - that is my girlfriend's favorite movie btw 🙂). Peace ✌️.

@@videovillagereactions - The thing about the Alien parody/spoof scene in Spaceballs, is that it also features the same actor, John Hurt, having fun with it all (and the joke line "Oh no, not again'" adds another layer when people know that it is the same guy, lol)....John Hurt was good friends with Mel Brooks (since working on Mel's previous film 'History Of The World Part I' as Jesus) and asked Mel if he had a part in the next film that he could play. Mel told John about the parody Alien scene. Mel didn't know if he wanted to spoof it and was even thinking of dropping the joke entirely. John told Mel "Don't you dare cut it. I'll be there the next day to film it"....that silly Alien bit got the biggest laughs when I was in the theater to see Spaceballs in 1987.

The actors knew about the chest burster. It was in the script. They knew there were puppet operators under the table. They knew Hurt had been set up for the burster scene. They knew it would be gory because there was buckets of offal around and everything not in frame was covered in plastic. What they were not aware of was how much blood was going to be deployed for the actual reveal.

@brucehodges9926
@brucehodges9926 Жыл бұрын
To flesh this out a bit more, the shuttle had I believe two hypersleep pods, one on either side of that center bulkhead that you see Ripley run past as she enters the shuttle. So it could take up to two people pretty much indefinitely, frozen in deep sleep... but for any more than two, the others would need to stay awake and out of hypersleep, which would mean they'd need to have breathable atmosphere etc. maintained in the shuttle cabin. That's where the whole bit about needing "coolant" for the life support system came in, why Parker and Lambert had gone to collect all those canisters before they were ambushed and killed - and why the canisters no longer mattered or were needed once Ripley and Jones were the only ones left alive.

In the film they try to show the normal atmosphere of coexistence in those years: drinking coffee, chewing gum, smoking, taking care of a pet, even wearing comfortable clothes even if you show the crack of your ass. Believe it or not, Sigourney Weaver was already 29 years old when she made 'Alien'. "Does not compute" is the way a computer tells you "I have no fucking idea". With her back to the alien Ripley could have tried to incite him to attack, or she could have done so to avoid freezing in terror at the last moment

I've said this in other comments regarding this movie, but here we go again. I saw this movie on opening day, last showing - at the Plitt Theater in Orange, Ca in 70mm as a matter of fact. To this day I'm soooooo thankful that I went into this movie completely cold. Alls I knew was that it was a Science Fiction movie, as did most of the audience. They only THOUGHT maybe it was a horror movie of some sort. As a result of not knowing anything about it, you can't even imagine the shock that reverberated through the theater during the big scene 55 or so minutes into the film. To this day, it may be the biggest cinematic shock I ever got (I was only anticipating that he would explode from the inside due to that line earlier in the film), but was NOT expecting what did in fact happen. Why am I so thankful for seeing it on opening day? That was on a Friday. By Sunday, it seemed like EVERYBODY knew about the scene, and therefore was dealed out of the shock. For some weird reason, it seemed like nobody could keep that secret for the sake of people who had yet to see the movie. But then again, when word got out, more people went to see it. Hehehe. Anyways, this movie still ranks as one of the most memorable moviegoing experiences of all time for me.

The actress playing lambert initially thought she was being cast for Ripley and was disappointed at bff we being lambert. That was until Ridley explained that her role was the audiences fear. Thus your response to “Let’s get out of here” with: yup I agree… she’s the smartest one here, really hit the nail in its head. PS: The band the WHO who were rehearsing on a neighboring sound stage lent the film crew the blue laser seen covering the eggs PPS and it’s actually Ridley himself that’s causing the movements inside of the egg. Had his hands right inside and gave that scary flutter. PPPS: One final thing… if ever a film proved how an excellent score and sound design can elevate a picture to that next level it’s Alien. The spooky woeful score, the jarring jump scares filled with orchestral screams, the sound of the crews strained breathing, echos of psychos violent violin shower scene updated for the beast, the deep breathing of the ship, subliminal faster tics and tocks to raise one’s pulse… omg… the sound sold me!

Ha! You're not wrong. For me the smoking is more about smoking in an oxygen rich environment like a spaceship being a fire hazard more than anything else. I'm old enough to (barely) remember people being able to smoke in bars and restaurants - 20 years removed from that in the states it does seem strange by today's standards. Thanks for watching!

@@videovillagereactions Well most movie/TV sci-fi implies, if not actually states, that they're running a 'normal' air gasses mixture at 1 atmosphere (14psi-ish). The pure oxygen mix used on Apollo was only chosen so that they could run much lower pressures of around 5psi. After the Apollo 1 fire they went to running normal mix at 14psi pre-launch, switching over to pure oxygen at 5psi once they were past the point of an in-atmosphere abort. In any case, a high-oxygen atmosphere isn't automatically dangerous IF you adapt to it: it just makes thing burn more intensely. In the case of smoking, you'll save on lighter fuel since you'll get the same flame for a lower setting, but on the other hand, your ciggies will burn faster...😉

The xenomorph isn't curled up in the shuttle at the end because it's dying due to any lifespan issue. It knows the best course of action at this point in such a small craft is to wait until it's reached the destination.. so it's just settled down to sleep/hibernate.. you even see it yawn
@brucehodges9926
@brucehodges9926 Жыл бұрын
Trying not to get into any spoilers with regard to future movies here... but actually the original concept that both Scott and Giger worked on at this point in the first movie was that the alien was in fact pretty much at the end of it's life span, and dying, when it curled up in the shuttle. And that's why it pretty much ignored Ripley until she forced it to move by blasting it with a steam vent. I'm aware that scenario doesn't really gell with things that happen in later movies, but if you go back to the behind scenes and background info on the original movie, you'll find that was in fact the idea at the time these scenes were filmed.

Classic sci-fi horror. The tension is so thick, you will need a sharp steak knife in order to cut it. The voice of "Mother" is so iconic, in my honest opinion. There's something unnerving about a cold feminine voice counting down to your death. It wasn't until GLaDOS that we rediscovered that a computerized female voice can be absolutely creepy. Fun Fact: In H.R. Giger's original illustrations that inspired the look of the Alien, the creature had eyes. For the movie, Giger insisted that the creature have no eyes, thus giving the bleak appearance of a cold and emotionless beast that hunts by smell. Real Guts Fact: The dead facehugger that Ash autopsies was made using fresh shellfish, four oysters, and a sheep kidney to re-create the internal organs. Filming had to be done quickly because the organic material would go bad very fast under the studio lights. Bloody Solution Fact: It was conceptual artist Ron Cobb who came up with the idea that the Alien should bleed acid. This came about when Dan O'Bannon ran into a wall with the screenplay in how to handle the last half of the movie. He needed a good reason for why the crew members don't just shoot the thing and kill it but still not make it an indestructible monster that can't be killed. The acid blood was the idea that solved this problem.

There is a video floating around out there on KZbin. I think it is one of the original trailers of this movie. I saw it and had a lot of dread when I heard the beacon. Well if you guys are not into scary movies you may not want to watch Event Horizon. There is a lot of lore that goes with this franchise. The Nostromo is a freighter tug the platform they are towing is a fully automated ore refinery. They were coming back from a star system where they picked up the ore and by the time they got back to Earth it would be ready to use. Think of Avatar but instead of refining it on the planet they haul it back to Earth but is ready to be made into things.

It's my understanding that the Nostromo was only the vessel they used to land on the planet. The rest of it is an automated mining platform. They were simply towing the platform back from wherever it had been mining and collecting ore, and it was at capacity.
@brucehodges9926
@brucehodges9926 Жыл бұрын
To put a bit of a scale on things here, the Nostromo itself is supposed to be pretty damned big, close to 1,000 ft long. Comparable to a modern cruise ship I guess, though it's not clear exactly how much of the interior of the ship is actually accessible to the crew. We know they have A, B and C decks and that C deck is pretty big, dark, dirty and sprawling. Anyway, they take that entire Nostromo ship down to the planetoid when they land. The refinery (loaded up with "20,000,000 tons of mineral ore") is the Nostromo's cargo, it's what the Nostromo is towing through space. Basically a huge platform supporting a mass of towers and domes, fully automated and so far as we know completely without any pressurised or human-accessible zones, a couple of miles or so across and probably close to a mile high. The size of a small city's CBD. They leave the refinery - the "Money" as Dallas puts it - in orbit around the planetoid while they go down to explore.

This is kind of an interesting one... I never thought of 2037 as being anything other than a randomly picked number when I saw this movie as a kid. Bit it *might* have been meant originally to be a year, probably not the year the movie was set in, but maybe the year that the AI behind Mother's... well, interface, was first designed, or something like that (?) Keeping in mind the whole 2122 thing was never stated, on screen or off, at the time of the original 1979 movie. The closest we ever got to anyone saying when the original movie's events took place, at the time of the original movie, was Ridley saying in an interview that it was "about a hundred years in the future". Or something like that. The 2122 date only came about, and was accepted into alien lore, after James Cameron's excellent sequel was released several years later and put a more solid timeline on things. Just a thought anyway.

Uh-oh, one veteran and one naive viewer are boarding the "Nostromo." I saw this in the same ex-Cinerama theater that had shown "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968) and "Star Wars" (1977). The TV and print ads said: "In space. no one can hear you scream." The "Star Wars-y" look to the sets took the tension level down a bit, as well as the very ordinariness of the crew. 5:25 The Company is making the equivalent of a freighter crew "do science" on King Kong island. 7:08 Ship engineers Brett and Parker won't win "The Montgomery Scott 'Miracle Worker" award. 7:50 How do you make a large set look gigantic? Get children suited up. 9:34 The Space Jockey, a mystery for decades. 11:52 Second Officer Kane = Zapp Brannigan. 12:37 How's that for a Jump Scare? 12:53 This conversation has become iconic/prophetic due to recent events. 13:16 The Face Hugger, grossing out audiences for decades. 14:22 Acid Blood solved a script problem, 17:35 a Props dept. work of Art, made of sea animals. DFX/CGI can't match this level of reality. 19:06 Kane's last meal. 19:25 The Xenomorph, scaring audiences since 1979. 20:00 Burial at sea, an old maritime tradition to spare next-of-kin the gory details. 22:06 Along came Jones.

Hi Guys. This is my favorite film series. I watch every reaction to it. For a new channel you did pretty good. To answer some of your question. The cat was filmed with a dog behind a screen to make it growl. They were just truck driver not scientists. The sequel to it ALIENS is worth watching and so is PROMETIUS which is like the Pre -Alien movie. The rest are junk. If you watch Promethius be sure to find the cut version with the cut out conversion between David and the Engineer.

When the original script for this movie began circulating around Hollywood, everybody that read it was blown away by its novel of idea of having a man impregnated by an alien and giving birth to the monster that results. A lot of the script was in poor shape. The dialogue was atrocious and the the author was not an easy guy to get along with. However, after some extensive re-writes (and a lot of bad blood) they were able to come up with a filmable script. Even the actors got involved in providing some additional dialogue to help flesh out their characters. "As soon as I finish my coffee. It's the only thing good on this ship." etc. The director allowing his actors to improvise on set. This helps lend it a sense of realism that the original script couldnt quite get across. In fact, the writing process created such bad blood between the producers and Dan O'Bannon that a sequel was delayed for years and many said it would never happen.

In fairness, it depends on what the net is made out of. Do use nets on aircraft carrier to catch fighter planes when there’s an issue with the normal trap. Your rib cage is going to be brittle and not very flexible . Where the net is going to be a lot more flexible and move, making it harder to exhibit force upon it. And as I’ve stated, it really does depend on the material you said nylon rope. What if it’s not a nylon and something else.

Another real groundbreaking alien/sci-fi with gore movie, is John Carpenter's, The Thing! It's special effects, dog handling, gore, even the story premise, was far ahead of it's time! And all carpenter movies should be watched! Particularly assault on precinct 13, escape from New York, escape from LA, Starman, Big Trouble in little CHINA!

In the script there was no clue to the character’s gender, although Lambert was trans gender. The movement in the egg was the director’s hands. Sigourney wanted to do the shuttle scene nude!

It is possible to train cats to do what you want when you want, it just isn't as easy. Dogs have been bred for thousands of years to serve humans. They are strongly driven to please their owners. Cats have been bred to control rodents, something they were already naturally inclined to do.

Ah no, Jonesy doesn't want anything to do with the Alien: he hisses and backs away when it's around: in the shuttle, he's trying to warn Ripley by growling but she doesn't get it. Jonesy is a good warning partner to have, if only you pay attention to him.

Those are exactly Christmas lights under the ship model. Another great effect was Scott had his kids and their friend in their spacesuits to make the landing gear appear huge. One of my fave movies as a teen in '82. Two of my prize possess were a Nostromo crew cap and a t-shirt that head a 3-D latex chestburster coming out of it. Also love the Alien's jazz hands when he runs into Dallas.

The Christmas lights were never supposed to be shot in that configuration. They were requested fairly last minute and roughly applied to the craft, but they ended up being shot before they'd had time to properly align them with the hull

The big "jazz hands" moment is likely a result of the editing process at the time, cutting just a few frames too late. Similarly, a few years prior in Star Wars ep. IV when Luke rushes out of the garage to look for R2-D2, C-3P0 walks forward a few steps then visibly stops.

The way to watch the "Alien" franchise: Watch the first two movies -- there ya go, you are done. However, if you like fan-fiction with a Hollywood budget, then you might enjoy the rest of the films. They can be a lot of fun. But it is important to remember that none of them are "essential". Enjoy! "The Terminator" franchise? See above. ;-]

Everyone always lists this among the scariest movies of all time, but I didn't find it especially scary, even the first time I saw it when I was like 7 or 8 years old. I know that a lot of the long shots and repeated scenes where nothing happens are to build tension, but for me personally, it goes just a touch too far and goes from tension-building just into the realm of losing my interest, which just kills the horror of it. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the movie overall, but I personally wouldn't even rank it in my top 30 scariest movies. For me, with the tension ruined by being dragged out just a little too long, the horror elements of this movie are boiled down to a few jump scares and that's it. One additional element that always irritated me, even when I was little: Why, in the final showdown aboard the shuttle, does Ripley need to be wearing childrens underwear? Even as a kid, I remember thinking that it looked like she tried to squeeze into a pair of my underwear. Those were NOT adult sized underwear. They were digging into her hips substantially, and when pulled up as far as they could be, the waistband was resting across the middle of her butt. They couldn't find an age-appropriate pair of underwear? Really? I know this was low-budget but come on!

All Scott brothers movies must be watched! And think, all practical effects here! 45 years old! Pro tip, the sequel is better, for action! Also the first chest bust out scene....the actor and Scott didn't give the other actors the details of what would happen, he wanted real reactions from the other actors! Also the large being in the chair, is discussed in the prequel to all Alien movies, Prometheus! They are called Engineers. They go to planets and seed life. If they don't like how the life is progressing, they seed another life to wipe out the remaining and then destroy each other! They created humans, Aliens, and supposedly Predators and gave humans the technology for Replicants and Terminators! Replicants are found in the most brilliant sci-fi movie of all time, which all others are judged against, Bladerunner! Also by Scott! The old guy here is Harry Dean Stanton. He has been in every movie ever made since the silent era!😁 U ought to check his body of films!! As a side note, how prolific a writer is James Cameron? Reese... Michael Biehn...said James calls him into his office one night, to discuss scenes, they're shooting on Terminator. While talking Reese asks him what he's writing.... Cameron's got starting scripts for- The Abyss, Terminator 2, and Aliens!😮😮 Aliens is actually better, and any early Cameron movie is good. The abyss, Terminator Terminator 2, true Lies, etc. And for Ridley, Bladerunner is a must! And the sequel is excellent! He also did, The Martian!!! The one where she's bald is alien 3, like 15 years after this!!!

"How'd they get the cat to react like that?" Probably by just having the guy in the alien costume move toward it very slowly... cats are dumb and if you put on clown makeup or a face mask they won't realise you're their owner and they'll do this.
