Admiral Raddus is badass. When Mon Mothma finds out they've gone for the plans, and says she needs to talk to Raddus, that guy tells her that Admiral Raddus has already left, has already unilaterally decided to take the fleet and fight. If Raddus hadn't taken that initiative, the mission would have failed.

You have to watch Andor! It's the prequel series that shows Cassian's story, and gives you a real look at the internal workings of the Empire as well as the beginnings of the Rebellion. It's a slow beginning, but it's not wasted time, in any way. It's all set up and building relationships to get you ready for where it's headed. And just like Rogue One succeeded in being an ACTUAL war movie in the Star Wars universe, Andor is a successful drama series about that struggle.

To this day, Rogue One is easily the best Star Wars movie Disney has ever made and the ending with Darth Vader is top-notch. Also, the fun thing about that end is that it leads straight into "A New Hope". That means Darth Vader chased them down from Skariff and when he caught them, Princess Leia was barefaced "what plans?" to his face. The balls on that princess!

Saying its the best Disney star wars movie is not saying much because of how bad they all were and the Vader at the end is a slap in the face of older Star Wars fans and Lucas. More machine now than man, all of the old canon made him barely able to move because the suit was so heavy and his robotic limbs...and it undoes the opening of the original movie where the plans location was in question and the accusation was they "intercepted a transmission" of the plans.

When my girls saw this in the theater, at 14 years of age (twins), they just could not grasp the concept of everyone dying. They were like, what's the point? They were so angry. The relationship w Chirrut and Baze is common in Asian culture and many other cultures of "brothers in arms". They grew up and trained and fought together. They both came up as Guardians of the Whills, like monks in a monastery. When the Empire took over the city, killed innocent people and pillaged the kyber crystals, it was like taking the most sacred things in Jedha. Chirrut continued to believe in the force and Guardians, Baze essentially "lost his faith and religion". Chirrut even says "You were once the most devoted guardian of us all!" Baze became embattled and bitter. So at the end when Chirrut says "I am one with the Force, the Force is with me", Baze replies with "The Force IS with we, and I am one with the Force". It's like at the end, he found his faith again and wanted to be with his brother in the afterlife. Symbolisms :)

I'm 62 years old and a fan since 1977, and I never thought that a Disney production would save Star Wars. But fortunately this happened, and in Roque One the old spirit that had been so lost in all the last films was rediscovered. Clear structure and plot, somehow he/she didn't stay alive. Dead stays dead. No ridiculous longing look, longing kiss and vow of eternal love that had nothing to do with the film but with audience groups. No cinema for 3 year old's. All beloved characters are wiped out. This is war as it really happens and where there is no fraudulent happy ending. An absolutely successful film with excellent actors.

"The rumbling overwhelmed all other sound. Jyn tightened her grip on Cassian, and he found the strength to hold her. The world grew brighter, emerald at first and then a clean, purifying white. In Jyn’s mind, the cave below the broken hatch was illuminated with the strength of a sun, and then the walls turned to dust and there was no longer a cave but only her spirit and heart and everything she had ever been: the daughter of Galen and Lyra and Saw, the angry fighter and the shattered prisoner and the champion and the friend. Soon all those things, too, burned away, and Jyn Erso-finally at peace-became one with the Force." - from the novelization of the movie. Always gets me choked up.

I lost my shit in theaters when Vader showed up at the end. It went from an action-sci-fi war film to a straight up horror movie in the blink of an eye and we finally got Darth Vader at his peak. No mercy, the living embodiment of fear, just a walking god of death and destruction like something out of an H.P. Lovecraft story. THIS is why he's the most feared. 51:02 -- That's the disc Leia inserts into R2-D2 and sends him on his mission to find Obi-Wan. Yeah, Rogue One is a great movie! The thing with Saw is that he finally realized just how corrupted and evil he'd become, even though it was in the service of getting rid of the Empire. He had been excommunicated from the main branch of the Rebellion. Even Mon Mothma told him that he wasn't on the right side of things and he let his anger and thirst for revenge take over. And when you see him, there's little difference between him and people like General Grievous or... Darth Vader himself. So, Saw knew that his time was at an end. Funny thing is, storm troopers don't have bad aim. The only times we really see them really "missing" a lot is in episode 4, when they were deliberately letting the rebels escape the death star, and episode 5, on cloud city, when they are trying to lure Luke into a trap for Vader. Both times they were missing on purpose. Other times we see them actually shooting to kill, such as the opening on episode 4, or the battle of Hoth, they decimate the rebels. They are completely one-sided fights.

Then Lo and behold, the empire actually planted a tracker on the falcon, leading them directly to the rebel base. Hmm, almost as if it was planned. If you wonder how good the stormtroopers actually are, watch the opening of a new hope. Breaching through a chokepoint held by at least 10-15 people zeroed in on the door, absolutely destroying them in seconds, with 2-3 casualties. Thats insane from a tactical perspective. Someone broke down their shot accuracy in that scene, and it came out at like 25-30 % of shots hitting their target. Thats a LOT, btw.

@robinhood5627 They're all to aware in writing and pacing that we know generally how the movie ends. But instead of dealing with the forgone conclusion that they will steal and deliver the plans no matter what by slowing down and developing the characters, they're violently propelled from action to action with no real actual or natural progression in relationships. Jyn goes from yelling at Cassian to quoting him passionately and Cassian goes from cold blooded killer to organizing a suicide squad for her because he chose not to kill the one person he was specifically ordered to kill, which was her father. And he had good reasons for not killing him, I'm sure Bor gullet was used, despite him making people go crazy, to learn the truth. Yet nothing comes of that truth gathering scene. When the X-Wings attacked Jyn's fathers position, we're told that they can't be called off because they're already committed. Nonsense. No shots were fired yet, and there's apparently instantaneous two way interstellar communications in Star Wars and with that squadron, so there's plenty of time to call them off. Even if there wasn't, there's nothing to prevent one of the X-Wings from hovering over the pad for a few seconds and sweeping the pad clear of enemies while his squad mates covered him. The end battle scenes went from "Cool visuals, I guess," to, "Seriously?" The inclusion of Red and Gold Leaders, obviously limited to what they could cull from cut angles meaning the almost the same exact lines from A New Hope was jarring. Then there's the out of place Mos Eisley jerks somehow being on Jedha, being jerks on Jedha because they have to cram some random cameo in the movie, just for them to leave Jedha immediately after being jerks and going straight to Tattoine, without freaking out over almost being killed by the Death Star. Pretty much everyone died in an explosion immediately after serving their one purpose in the movie, which was to flip a switch. And some of those switches were outside and exposed to the elements for no reason. And the antenna was out of alignment for no reason, and somehow transmitted to everyone yet just the rebel flagship, which had Leia's ship in it for some reason. And let's not forget that C-3PO and R2-D2 were in the Yavin hangar when everyone left yet on Leia's ship when it got boarded not much longer later. Also, the battle scenes was ridiculous. The rebels had the element of surprise, yet they didn't immediately start shooting everything on sight upon exiting lightspeed. There was no general plan and at most minimal coordination. Orders were given sporadically, instead of rapid fire. There was no shooting between the capital ships and minimal firing from the capital ships. There was no bombing or bombardment of the Imperial structure surrounding the shield opening. There were no squadrons of fighters firing volleys of torpedoes, just random fighters almost casually flying about and shooting at the occasional target. There were a total of 3 star destroyers in orbit around Scarif and yet not one deployed any troops to reinforce the surface. Instead, they just let the surface fend for itself and eventually Tarkin destroyed the Empire's own base, despite only some rebels being on the surface and despite the rebels already getting the plans. And fuck the rest of the data stored there, right? That's not important anymore for some reason. Vader's scene at the end was supposed to be orgasmicilly amazing, yet it's a let down and shows him to be incompetent. He dramatically took his time and turned off his life support and almost casually walked down the hall killing fools, instead of being mister badass sith and using the Force to brush everyone to the side and at least trying to Force grab the plans or using the Force to at least try stopping Leia's ship. Then he's standing in the vacuum of space like his suit is rated for that. The opening crawl in A New Hope mentioned spies, yet there weren't really spies. Just some people sneaking into a base. Sure, that could constitute spying, but barely at that. Vader mentioned that the data was beamed to her ship; sure, the satellite dish transmitted the data, but not to her ship. If they're going to have Vader eage against the machine and her ship be attached to the flagship for some reason, have Vader mow down the rebel scum and get the plans, only to have Leias ship leave and the communication officer on the flagship transmit/beam the data to her. That can be arranged since the data was transmitted to the flagship and copied to the case but not necessarily deleted from the ships computer. The one of Leia's officers copies the data to the disc and then deleted the data from the her ships computer. Or better yet, have a spy team on the surface. Then Leia's ship arrives to take on supplies for a "mercy mission" (as vaguely mentioned in A New Hope). The spies bribe a bunch of people (Leia mentioning the price they paid), and beam the data up to her ship. Vader happens to be near, somehow finds out and gives chase, leading to A New Hope

@@andymiller6661 OOF that's a lot of gripe, and not all correct, but w/e. I mean, they had to fit what they could into the time slot available, what you are describing as rushed seems like 2 or 3 movies worth of development just to kill them off at the end anyway. I think they paced it very well for the time they had to spend on it, esp given the outcome of death. And sure, they might have had instances of pointless plot that didn't get followed up on.
