CGI will never replace practical effects. This movie is the GOAT for sci fi horror. A true masterpiece
@weldonwin

I am going to play devil's advocate for a moment and say that CGI is not inherently better than practical effects. There have been amazing CGI effects in movies and there have been appallingly bad practical effects too. Neither is inherently superior, it depends on the skill and effort of those making the effects. I do none the less applaud good practical effects, not least on the recent Alien Romulus, but I would remind people that that movie also used CGI and that CGI is simply a tool that allows film makers to do effects in their movies that would be impossible to do in camera or at least extremely difficult.

I think IQ's dropped sharply in the last 20 years. Before that, everyone understood immediately, upon first watch of the movie, why Ripley had to turn back and stop the self-destruct. It couldn't be more obvious. Modern audiences need subtitles and a for-special-kids type of plot to understand anything.

"It was good", "It was better than I thought it was going to be." I'm wondering why you didn't expect it to be a top-tier classic, since Alien is a cultural phenomenon that inspired and was copied by sci-fi thrillers from 1979 onwards. It's still talked about in film studies classes, the lead character Ripley is a feminist icon of the GenX generation, when so many female roles were damsels in distress or just window dressing, Ripley was the smartest, most effective member and leader of the crew, which was unheard of back then. There are few, if any, better sci-fi thrillers than Alien, and that's not even going into the filmmaking, which is remarkable for it's age, the special effects, production design and cinematography are works of art.

Could be a number of reasons including the entire franchise? A lot of people don’t know any of this about Alien. I don’t think I’ve seen any reactor expect it to be that excellent unless they’ve seen some of Ridley Scott’s older movies. Many like Aliens as much as or more than Alien, which is understandable, but its aims are to be an entertaining action movie. It’s not exactly subtle or as groundbreaking in many ways. And then later movies in the franchise vary even more in quality, even if the special effects or whatever are good. And when people say something is a classic, it could mean all sorts of things.

What made this movie "special" when it was released, is it was not only very good at tension building, but in a world with no CGI and where the only other "space" movies was the original star wars, this was technologically advanced for it's time. Imagine doing the effects they did with no CGI and when computers were so basic and rare and computer games consisted of dots on a screen. It blew people away. In today's world where CGI rules, it's sometimes easy to overlook what the special effects people might've had to do to pull off some of these scenes when it didn't exist.

Ripley is trying to stop the countdown because the alien is blocking the way to the shuttle. Not sure why you didn't understand it, it's pretty obvious. 😆 Now react to the sequel Aliens and please choose the Special Edition director's cut version this time for the second one. You already missed some scenes in the first one by not watching the director's cut of the first movie like Ripley and Parker running towards Brett as the alien grabbed him, Ripley discovering the alien's nest, the alien knocks Jonesy's cage and more.

Ripley's nose was bleeding due to a failed attempt to expel the creature into space. It's a deleted scene that happens as follows: Parker spots the creature while going to refuel the flamethrowers. He tells Ripley to slowly open the airlock doors, but an alarm goes off, startling the alien. As the airlock door slid shut, one of the alien's appendages is caught in the door, shearing it off. The acid caused a critical depressurization in the airlock, resulting in Ripley's nosebleed. Hope that helps!

You two should really start watching some of the older classic movies...yes sometimes you will come across some bad special effects but for the most part, it's the story from the older movies that really make them great. Some other franchise to start, Terminator (actually, any Arnold flick from the 80's) , The Thing, Back to the Future, Blade Runner.

Alien is quite intentionally laced with subliminal sexual cues, they aren’t merely your imagination. Once you are looking for them, they seem to show up almost everywhere. The art director was Swiss surrealist, H.R. Giger (RIP). Google his name and the term, ‘Necronomicon’ to see his art in detailed printed form. The latent sexual imagery serves a purpose in Giger’s art, so also in the film. Which is that it increases the human fear response to the horror. Sexual arousal and fear both greatly stimulate the autonomic nervous system. One increases the other. Director Scott utilizes that to good effect in the movie.

If only Ripley had stopped the destruct sequence in time, then found the Alien on the escape ship, she could have launched the ship and stay on the main ship, gone back to sleep and got back to Earth in a reasonable amount of time, thereby stopping the chain of events causing all the other films. Of course the only drawback to that would have been an escape pod with an alien on it that would have been encountered eventually, but then it wouldn't have been Ripley's problem.

It won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects! It made $200 million dollars against a $10-11 million dollar budget. Dan O'Bannon the writer for the movie, was working on an adaptation of Jodorowsky's DUNE, but when the film was cancelled, O'Bannon, along with Chris Foss, Jean "Moebius" Girard and HR Giger, used their original art concepts for the DUNE adaptation and place them in the final cut of ALIEN.

welcome to the Alien universe,...hope you get to see Romulus, you should watch these first alien movies, before seeing it,..and loved how you were attuned to the sounds, the sound of the ship, it's funny, when you see this movie, how the sounds are as much, like you said not so much sound effects, but just the mundane sound of the ship, is in in of itself part of the suspense, and keeps you on edge, when Brett is searching for the cat, the heart beat, and the structural sound of the ship, as its hurtling through space,..its not quite quiet enough for you to, as a human be on alert to your surroundings,..like in a creepy old house, and someone's after you, and you listen for footsteps, and hear the floor boards creak behind you,..there was no complete quiet, for you to be on alert,.you only had your eyes,..tactile, sense of smell,..it's unnerving,..I truly think Ridley Scott may have been influenced by Hitchcock,..you can apply the same logic of being distracted by an underlying sound, to not hear someone coming up on you, like Janet Leigh in Psycho, when she's in the shower, water spraying out of the shower head, noisy,..doesn't even hear when Anthony Perkins enters the bathroom, not until he's there attacking,....do keep going, Aliens is a tour de force,.another masterpiece, do enjoy, Godspeed, Peace ✌

I agree that they appear to have missed some pretty obvious beats and events that I followed just fine as a 14 year old when this movie came out. Like, how would they react or even manage to watch _Coma_ or _China Syndrome_ or _Conversation_ , you name it? Or when there is complete lack of knowledge about a particular actor - I hope I don't sound too rude, but I remember watching one reaction where the person casually mentioned having no knowledge of Kurt Russell or his filmography, it just took me out of the reaction, almost viscerally.

Personally, I like older horror movies. They scared me way more than anything in this new generation. I am not scared like I used to be. Alien Convent was scary. But Romulus wasn't scaring me, I was disappointed, but I won't tell anyone else how to feel about it. I will let others have their But for me, Ripley helped make these movies so famous, and she is a major character in the Alien world. She is badass. I feel lately, calling this new girl from Romulus Ripley 2 point 0. And I am not seeing that, and I don't agree with it. But that's me. Anyways back to this. Movie. Jones, also referred to as Jonesy, was a cat kept aboard the USCSS Nostromo as Ellen Ripley's pet. While the cat's official purpose was to control rodents aboard the ship, he also served as a source of relaxation and entertainment for the crew like a theory animal. So, this was the reason why a cat was brought into outer space. Yeah, see the difference between them and me I'll pass up my paycheck I'll go get a new job I'm not putting my life at risk for exploring an unknown world and secondly as soon as I saw that face hugger on that guy's face, I would have been gone I would have stolen the shuttle and left with a cat. The Spaceship gets explained in Prometheus which is the origin and the start of all of these movies. Alien Movies in (Chronological) Order AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004) ... Aliens' vs Predator: Requiem (2007) ... Prometheus (2012) ... Alien: Covenant (2017) ... Alien (1979) ... Aliens (1986) ... Alien 3 (1992) ... Alien Resurrection (1997) And now they've added the new one that just came out.

Guys I have requested you more than 10 times yo watch RRR. Just watch first 20 mins. After that you'll not be able yo stop yourself to watch entire movie in one sitting. Please...don't procrastinate. It is the best entertainment stuff ever captured on camera. It is totally worth your time and effort.

I just cannot believe you actually blurred one of the most iconic scenes in movie history - the creature erupting from Kane's stomach. Did you think it was too scary for people to view?

@@FanPops Oh really? But I've seen several first time viewers watching this particular film and no one ever blurred the most iconic moments. Oh well, it was your choice of course.

It's called Chestburster cause it erupts from the chest. It didn't burst from the stomach, saying that makes it sound someone had a bad meal lol

My only gripe with the film is the alien only on screen for like 5 minutes... and the lack of detail on the kills. Too many close ups... and off screen kills. But this film NAILS TERROR... and the creature design was unbelievable. And to filmmakers making crap today....THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE A FEMALE PROTAGONIST. in todays movies....theyd have ripley punch the alien to death or something

You wouldn't see much of the alien on a dark dank cargo ship. And when you see it in full it's clearly a dude in a suit. The way it's done is perfect. And there are lots of ways to have a female protagonist.

It nails the tension and terror BECAUSE is doesn't show kill details. Your imagination is far better at filling in the blanks than any filmmaker is, Spielberg did the same thing with Jaws.
@Blaize24

As soon as you see a monster clearly the terror goes away. Your imagination will always make it more scary than whatever it actually is. Of course, imagination isn't a thing that gets very developed any longer because everything is shown most of the time.

My favorite movie series i watched envy youtube reaction maker. Have u done reactions long? I must say its not good. The idea is to pick out your Key scenes from your full length and post enough here so a new person is able to follow along. You missed a lot. U also got to play longer ones.For this reason I have to give you a DISLIKE. I want you to watch reactions to thei movie by EOM, DEVIN G and Dasha Reactions.. They will teach you how to make a good reactions.. Now if you are going on with the series Do PROMETHEUS next. I tell everyone this but no ones listens, then do ALIENS. No theses guy are just space truckers hauling ore. Thats why they made bad decisions. So Prometheus gives u good prequel and then Aliens. Following Aliens then do next move ALIEN COVENANT is the sequel to Prometheus. As far as like Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, dont bother with they are junk. OK

The second one will blow your minds 🔥🤘🔥Fun 70's Fact😅::Segourny was the original female badass..she was so hairy for the underwear scene at the end production practically demanded she shave and she completely refused 🖕(the 70's😅)..it took them WEEKS in post-production to edit out her bikini line...cost tens of thousands of dollars..they were PISSED..😂🤘🔥
