As a lifelong coffee drinker, 60 years or more, I am an absolute monster before my first cup. I've actually told people to get out of my way to the first cup and not too politely, I might add. The one thing I won't drink is decaf. If you can believe it, I would drink a glass of water before drinking decaf. This story made me smile. Well done.

Loved your comment! While I have only been drinking coffee on a regular basis for a bit over 20 years, and I'm not affected the way you are, I very much appreciate a good coffee flavored beverage. For me, I drink it after 9pm and before 3am, to prevent waking up to a migraine. No, it doesn't keep me awake, since I likely have ADD. And I do restrict myself to one a day, most of the time. Sometimes, I still get a migraine, but instead of at least once a week, it's now down to a handful a year. Sleeping it off alone never, EVER works for me. But four 200 milligrams of ibuprofen + a nap (perhaps with coffee to speed things up), THAT works. Until I discovered how nicely caffeine works to prevent migraines, I bought the BIG bottles of ibuprofen. Now I am good with smaller bottles. Coffee is MUCH kinder to the body than ibuprofen, in the quantities I need to consume them...

Who calls coffee mild? Moderate or extreme is a better description for higher energy level coffees. Double or triple shot espresso is at least a moderate and can decrease reaction time needed for those reaction tests by half.

Rocket fuel is mostly hydrogen and oxygen, so humans do in fact run on rocket fuel, but its this boring stuff called water ;p I really like the story. A few minor annoyances though. Should the author ever read this. Try not to refer to future events "Little did they know that..." its a bad gimmick, adds nothing to the actual story. It make it seem more important that the story actually is. I guess its akin to "show don't tell", show me whey this event would shape the story for the galaxy for generations to come, don't just tell me it did.
