Glad to hear that Tchaikovksy delivered once again for you. I am quite intrigued by this premise, and I like that it stands so well on its own. Great review!

Yeah, as with many books, there are tendrils there that you can see being explored in a follow-up book, but it certainly reads as a standalone.

Tchaikovsky writes so fast! I'm actually reading his book, House of Open Wounds right now. It's a sequel to City of Last Chances. I didn't even know there was a sequel until a few days ago. I'm sure I'll read this new one at some point. I'm trying to read all his works.

That one didn't really take my fancy, which in a way is good, as it's one less book (or pair of books, at present) for me to get through!

just wait until you hear how many he has planned. I think he's at least mostly done with the third one already

Oh, i have read City of Last chances a month ago and really enjoyed it! it was so different ... I also hearead that House of Open Wounds is better and that it is like "fantasy M.A.S.H." and I am so intrigued! :D I also hope we will explore the interesting world more in there
@PonderingsOfPete10 ай бұрын
@@zuzanaochmanova2652 yup! House of Open Wounds is great, can confirm. Fantasy M.A.S.H. Is a really good descriptor, especially since the darker his books get, the more Tchaikovsky’s humor comes out, which is absolutely true in HoOW. Still not a comedy to the extent of the show, but more strangely humorous. And it benefits (in terms of broader appeal) from being more character focused than City of Last Chances was.

Spiderlight is only 300 pages. Otherwise, Empire in Black and Gold might do you well!

I have read the book, I am kind of confused regarding those structures. What are they? A Cenotaph? Whatever those structures are what purpose do they serve? Why is that Planet's biology keen on building it?
@dominishbooks6 ай бұрын
It was a while ago now, so I'll be honest - I can't remember if that question was ever explicitly answered. There were a number of theories, but with the way it ended, I don't remember that part being answered for definite.

So far, Im enjoying Alien Clay more than Cage of Souls.

I haven't read Cage, it didn't appeal so much. Alien Clay was typical Tchaikovsky weird though!
