This company nailed so much in the game where others lacked, it attained an authentic experience within the aliens universe, I have a few random disagreements but they did a great job. The fact there was no sequels is criminal.

This game is in a whole different level. Ever since Dead Space, I didn't think I would encounter another sci-fi horror game as good. And then they release this gem... Not only my absolute favorite genre, but from a franchise so dear to me, since I'm a very early 80's kid. All the oppressive atmosphere of Dead Space, the aggressively uninviting settings, but now take away your ability to fight back and add an invincible enemy with an unpredictable mind of its own. I personally cannot play this game anymore. This is as far as I go with horror games, as my heart health doesn't agree with it unfortunately. But I did manage to finish it once and I will forever remember the impact that it made in my gaming world. Everything about this game design is beautiful in an eerie and horrible way. A masterpiece.

Dead Space is prolly the closest one to this game, but it’s more of a shooter. AI is pure survival horror and much more immersive than Dead Space. DS is forgettable after awhile, AI will always stay in your mind.

@@kovy689 Funny thing is: in an interview 2 years ago they showed some footage of Alien Isolation during its development. Originally the game was designed as a third person shooter, with apparently much more emphasis on weapon usage. The footage also showed you being able to upgrade your weapons at workbenches, similar to Dead Space. One of those benches can be found very early in the game actually: when you find the jack to remove those door locks, you can go the left in that hall and unlock a small room, where a few crafting components sit on a workbench. I think the devs really went with Dead Space as a design principle. I mean: both have an open world ship/space station, fast travel via train, revisiting of old areas with new paths unlocked further down the line of the story, etc.

@@xXYannuschXx Then I’m glad they changed it at the last minute and made it a survival. Both games are good, but AI is the only game I’d watch replays of. It makes you think you’re in the game’s surrounding when watching it.

@@kovy689 Absolutely, I think I never played a more immersive game than Alien Isolation; the lighting and sound design are top notch to this very day. In the interview they said that the lighting system they developed hasnt been used in any other game up until the time of the interview. EVERYTHING was done with real time lighting, nothing pre baked and apparently not even using global illumination. Thats something I only know from UE5, which is only 1-2 years old. And for the sound system they developed their own real time reverb system, thats why the sound seems so "real" and that you are inside the game, because the reverb is pretty realistic; also something not many games have, atleast not to the degree of AI, only game I can think of that comes close is BF3 and BF4. For only having developed the Total War series before, the devs really went above and beyond for their first try at an FPS. Writing a purpose built engine, that enabled them to capture the feel of the first Alien movie. This game deserved to sell as much as the RE games.

@@xXYannuschXx Now there are newer games like Starfield, Star Wars, etc. But those become forgettable after week of playing. Action is probably their main selling point. But the memories of AI is forever imprinted in the mind. There’s nothing quite like this game. It has a certain magic that no other game could touch. AI will go down as one of the most underrated games of all time.

I prefer this one to the remaster. Sure, there is the building of tension with the AI creepin' around in the remaster but this video captures the essence of the game better. The implication of the Alien being present just around the corner here is better than hearing the thing stomping around in the dark.

@@celasss I got AI for the Xbox 360 when it was released in 2014. I loved the game to death but I got stuck on that one level where you had to climb the ladder to escape the fire/explosion. For some reason I kept falling when I tried to jump from one ladder to the other. The controls or something just wouldn't respond. I swear I tried like 100 times or more before I just gave up. Fast forward to the pandemic 6-7 years later when I got my son a gaming PC; AI was on sale for cheap so I bought it again. Dood. One. Freakin'. Try. and I passed that level like nothing. I couldn't believe it. AI is still my favorite game of all time. I'm not much of a gamer, but as a Gen-Xer, Alien is a top sci-fi flick for me, and this game captures the whole vibe, ambience, tech and universe 1000%. I only finished the game recently and totally got sad that it was over.

Yes, this game is really one of a kind, and was so sad too after finishing it that I had to go back from time to time just to feel the ambience. It's in the San Cristobal Medical Center. It's early on the "Outbreak" level. Right after you fix the cooling unit, up the ladder in the vent, then drop down in the sleeping quarters. Go straight through the door in front of you and you are in this room. *It is not safe* on this level because the Alien will pass through. But you can return to San Cristobal later in the game when the Alien is absent. There are no androids nearby and so it's a safe spot.
