@@geemanbmw wow, no kidding it's not his first language. How's he gonna get better without some constructive criticism? I doubt he's in the US or any other English speaking country. So until I said something there's no telling whether he knew he was off or not. His English beats my Spanish any day of the week. However, it is difficult to understand him he's got 10,000 subs now so if he wants to continue to grow it's gotta become more intelligible than what it is.

Just random though came to mind: How humans👨🏻‍🦱 might establish connection with ETI (Extra Terrestrial Intelligence)👽? I believe humans will discover connection with ETI so there won't be alien ships and disks visiting earth too early. The signaling technology will either be as classic as Radio wave or it would be rather be exotic like gravitational waves. Unfortunately, none of us might be here to witness this.

Thank you! Yes, I will make more videos, although the channel might be a bit silent for some time until I find a job. I guess you already watched my video on Alpha Cen, but just in case: kzbin.info/www/bejne/noqooat7i72gkMU Alpha Centauri A and B indeed have high chance of having exoplanets due to their high metallicity, both way higher than the Sun. James Webb's NIRCam and MIRI instruments are equipped with coronagraphs, so the first discovery of exoplanets there could come in 2022.

I’d like to see a more mathematical description of the intensity of the beam as a function of its final cross-section. There’s obviously a tradeoff between how strongly the beam is focused and the size of the area that it can be received by. Best case scenario, you’d aim to cover the entire surface of the target planet with your pulses, but no more. But that might not be possible depending on the distance. Then you’d calculate the effective signal to noise ratio at both daytime and nighttime for a variety of pulse lengths and pulse powers. From there you’d see what kind of equipment we’d need to detect a sensible pulse, and what kind of laser we’d need to send an easily detectable pulse.

The DE-STAR is a great idea to use for communicating with ETIs since if it's built to destroy dangerous asteroids it would only be used very rarely. It would sit around uselessly most of the time. While waiting it can be used to signal nearby stars, which would also prove it still works. Be very annoying to have it waiting 10 years, then try saving the world and find it broke down! Edit: spelling mistake.

So transmitting a terabytes worth of information (like Isaac Arthur suggested in his video) across 1000 light years, would cost about 8 TWh worth of energy? I just looked at US electricity prices and it looks like it would cost over 800 billion dollars to send 1TB of data. And you would have to do that multiple times for each star/exoplanet... Thats quite expensive. As for the new detectors. If they can detect millisecond laser pulses... Does that mean that we can start detecting 1 Kbps signals, but if the aliens are sending 1 Mbps or faster, we cannot detect them yet? Edit: Nevermind. I watched the third part. Apparently we already have detectors capable of detecting nano second pulses. So we can detect 1 Gbps signals. Still, sending signals is quite costly, especially if you dont know if anybody is listening to you. How long do you think a civilization will keep doing it, if they never receive a reply? A century? Millenia? I doubt they will keep it up for millions of years.

_''How long do you think a civilization will keep doing it, if they never receive a reply? A century? Millenia?''_ I would say it depends on how willing they are to become noticeable, and the type of star (and therefore life expectancy).

When we have to make great effort to understand commentary it defeats the whole purpose and educational reason for making the videos in the first place. Some friendly advice. The fact that you mispronounce "lasers", the subject of the video (and thus oft-repeated), indicates that you would greatly benefit from listening more closely to other English speakers - a sort of local version of the SETI of which you speak. And that, were you really serious about the communication thing, you would hire a speech coach. After all, Isaac did and it has done him wonders!
