Transmission (4L60e) neutral safety switch selector shift linkage shaft swap. That’s a mouth full but it needed to be done in order to use the neutral safety switch that mounts on the transmission. I guess it’s to be expected when you mismatch items. Very nervous about doing this switch upgrade but after watching the Monster Transmission video, I felt confident enough to get it done. I'm pretty sure the clip prevents the lateral movement of the shaft. To be safe, I would put it in.👽

Thanks. I was very nervous but monster transmission had a video on it and I just followed their instructions. They did a lot more then me on their transmissions, this just happened to be one of the steps.👽

Unfortunately I don't have the part number. After I got the transmission back and realized I needed the longer shaft, I went back to the transmission shop and they had one. Paid $2 .

It depends on the vehicle. For my 1996 Corvette, the part number is GM 24235194. It should include a replacement seal. There is a tool for removing the old seal that has threads on one end a place to use a wrench on the other.

I got a question I got a four-wheel-drive transmission can I remove the transfer case and made it like 2 Drive

I have a 97 jeep cherokee and I've removed the front drive shaft because of a broken ujoint. It ran that way, really making it a 2-wheel drive.

I'm not sure what would happen if you removed the transfer case. Just seems less hassle or unknowns is you just remove the front drive shaft. K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid) Something the military taught me, not sure what their doing now.👽

I know this is an older video but I need some help. I have a 1992 Chevy S10 with the 4L60(no e). I'm leaking all my fluid out through this linkage over night. A local mechanic told me that it probably has a bad gasket/seal. Did you have to get a gasket or anything for this? I did not hear you mention anything about it. Thanks

Yes, it looks like I didn't mention it. There sould definitely be a gasket for the pan. That shouldn't be that bad to remove the pan and add a new gasket for pan. Get a clean pan and save all fluids, recycle back into the car. I hoped this help.👽

Yes, there is a gasket. It was on the transmission pan. The video was going pretty fast, so it went by quickly. I point at it briefly. I had to slow the video down to see it.👽

@@AlienRestoMod Thanks for getting back so quick. I know there should be a pan gasket. I was talking about where the shift linkage goes through the transmission housing. Mine is leaking through where the linkage is

That seal. Tell you the truth, I don't remember seeing it. I must have used one because I'm not leaking fluid. Look up this guy, he has an easy method of replacing it. Southpaw Autoworks- Fast & Easy method- HM 4l60e shifter seal replacement. Really did look that bad. Check it out.👽

Hi there. Do you know if generally it's the short or long shaft or is there multiple length shafts. Only our column shift GM 4l60e vehicles in Australia got a long shaft and are very rare. Do you have a part number for the long shaft. I need to replace mine. Thanks

I only know of the long and short. I acquired an extra one from a local transmission shop. They just gave it to me.👽

The one I used was the long shaft. I added an aftermarket floor shifter and needed the extra length because of the linkage that came with it.👽

Well I went to my local transmission shop and explained what I was trying to do, charged me a couple bucks for the shaft. No part number that I know of.
