@ParkerJColeAuthor It wouldn't bloody end. Everything the did created a new problem to solve. Ramp up, climax, PHEW! That's done. But, uh-oh! This new plot thread! Ramp up, climax, PHEW! Like 5 times. The pacing was terrible. The acting was annoying. The dialog was too repetitive (we get it, Bjorn, you hate synthetics, stop telling us every 2 minutes. Ripley did it in 15 seconds and it lasted.) The characters weren't fleshed out; they were all aggressive and overbearing and then panicky, with no diversity at all (except for Andy). They left the planet without clearance, they got info from some mysterious person, the mining corp was over the top, turns out THEY DIDN'T NEED ANDY, and a dozen other things that break all of these plot threads. What they did to Ian Holm was horrible. The characters are stupid because the plot needs them to be. The human/alien hybird was so stupid. And waaay too many callbacks to the other films. 4/10. Subpar. I won't watch it again.
@ParkerJColeAuthor2 ай бұрын
@@booshmcfadden7638 I hear you and forgive me for rambling. I think why I liked it so much was the callback to nostalgia. These aliens used to terrify me as a child watching the movies with my grandmother. My Granny loved horror movies. RIP Granny. And those callbacks put me right back on the couch, sitting next to her, hiding behind her arm. Usually, nostalgia doesn't work on me, but in this movie, it did. Now, that being said, I think the pacing could have been improved most definitely, but I think they were going for a slow build up like in the first movie. The problem is that we know what's going to happen. We know we're watching an Alien movie so it's hard to keep up that mystery going so they did it with a slow ramp up. The ship leaving without clearance I saw as an error with the bureaucracy of the planet (unless they retcon it in the sequel and make it seem as if they KNEW it was going to happen) Other things I liked: being on a Company planet. I liked the relatively unknown actors. We have no attachment to them, so we can get to see what happens with Rain and Andy if they do the sequel right. I agree with FoundFlix on that one. Don't try to mesh them together. Let them have their own trilogy. I know Ridley loves the whole black goo thing - but I wish he'd just leave it alone. I get it that the early drafts of Prometheus had intricate story elements exploring created vs creator, religion vs science. I know. But let it go, my guy. Let it go. Now, I'm in the minority, I know, but ... I LIKED the Offspring. *ducks tomatoes* I''ll tell you why. I think as a story concept of merging human and alien DNA it would be a precursor to something the Company would want to do. At the end, I thought the Offspring was nursing because of the black goo coming from her chest but I guess I was wrong. I would have preferred that because that would have made an interesting dynamic to explore going forward if they wanted to like kidnapped pregnant women and experiment on them. So those are my rambling thoughts! :)

Since you didn’t mention it, I assume when they froze the tail at 12: 45 that was also a call back to Yaphet Koto saying why only you just freeze him in the original Alien

My screen froze last night on the same frame as your thumbnail. My only beef with the movie, was when the baby was in the cargo hold. The ship recognized it and said it was down there. Instead of crawling down there also, she could just dropped the cargo hold right then and there, no problem.

TLDR I went from being very skeptical about the movie to being quite happy with it. I thought that reviving Big Chap from what was supposed to be unrecoverable triple nuclear explosion was lame and then killing him off screen was even lamer but the movie is actually quite good. It oozes love and reverence to the original two movies and there's a splashes of alien isolation in almost every frame. Big part for me was how they seamlessly blended old-fi tech from Alien and Aliens like buttons and cranks with more modern digital screens, AND made CGI work with practical effects, and there's a ton of practical effects. Movie gave facehuggers front stage and managed to transfer the ominous danger that a hallway can convey to the screen with distant screeching and hissing inside long empty vent shafts really selling the fact that danger is always around the corner. Yes, references to original movies are very often a bit too much, but the plot moves with a pace and you don't get time to dwell on it. Yes, Big Chap is killed off-screen but a) there are plenty of xenomorphs to take his place and b) there's a tiny chance it's not Big Chap, since we're shown later that there are plenty of xenomorphs on the station and it could have been one of them. David Johnson really sells the two versions of Andy. The zero gravity sections is a nice touch (not like the shitty movie Gravity). It also makes sense to bring the Prometheus Fire or pathogen - thank God we don't have to call it "black goo" anymore - back into the story and actually use it for something, bringing the corporate greed exemplified by WY throughout the movies to it's logical conclusion. Everything in this movie is set up quite nicely with recalls later in the movie.

So Bjorn was the father of Kay's baby (cousins btw) according to Fede. She did say the father was some jerk. I had a feeling that was the case when they reunited after the ship crashed they embraced a little too intimately.

I enjoyed almost all of this movie. The 0g acid scene, and Andy catching the elevator but not being able to open the door when they first encounter the face huggers kinda pulled me out. The rest of it was miles better than anything literally since aliens lol

I’ve been a fan of Alvarez since he did Evil Dead. I like his philosophy when it comes to doing movies connected to established franchises. He basically says he doesn’t like straying too far away from source material and I like that.

I'd like to think the Engineers merely retro-engineered the black goo from something more primordial which comics does go into this a bit.

also idk if this is from the comics, but the egg/cocoon to transform into a xenomorph is another organism; besides the xeno inside. just like how the egg is it's own organism besides the facehugger inside, being a separate organism too.
@PrettyTigerlilly2 ай бұрын
I agree, the egg holds the facehugger, not the baby xeno. It's a cocoon and it's concept was taken from the movie Species ( which is connected to the Alien movies by way of H.R Giger)

One of the best horrors this year. Now this is the alien we wanted.
@TheMatthew0012 ай бұрын
i just kind of realized this set up for the alien movies really relies on the protagonists not knowing anything about the aliens and also being compassionate enough to care bout their fellow crew members. because what if just after the face hugger room scene they just shot him in the face along with the face hugger and called off the mission to get out before something else went wrong?
