@@sandrajones3563 Well if these creatures are based on Flys, that kinda makes sense, burrowing underground looks like something that they were evolving to do, if they came from space and evolved on earth, they would've started above ground, then evolved to burrow and live underground, remember at the start of the movie when the first creature tries to break down the door, it tests the door, then tries to break it, then gets frustrated and lashes out at it, it still has intelligence probably on par with humans, it gets angry and frustrated the same way we do, they watched their patterns and knew what they did and didn't do

The dog scratching at the floorboards at like, 2:57 or so, that, I believe is actually subtle foreshadowing to the hole in the floor which appears later. It's almost as if during the attacks is when the monsters dig, and the dog hears it, which alerts the people inside to the attack as a whole. Later on, they've completed it, but wait for a full-scale nightfall attack instead of just a few of the diggers attacking during the day, at least, that part can be speculated since we never see actually WHEN the digging is complete, just that it's daytime when one of the boys discovers the sneaky tunnel. Edit: my apologies, he found the hole in the floorboards whole closing up for the night, but we can at least presume the tunnel was inactive during the day, still allowing my pseudo-theory to work as far as the beasts' intelligence goes.
