The engineers and the wonder of following that storyline is exactly the feeling I seek when watching sci fi. Wish they just had it as its own franchise so it could be appreciated for what it was and went for vs what it wasn’t

Thanks to Shaun and Tom! 🎬 Aside from four or five questionable elements, I think ALIEN: ROMULUS (2024) was good... the sibling-esque relationship was great. 🔸 Since y'all mentioned it, I am part of the fandom that wants *more* details on The Engineers. 🔸 I really loved BLINK TWICE (2024). Zoë Kravitz has quite the career as a director ahead of her if this first effort is any indication. Yes, the easily triggered should steer clear.

Blimey, I was so bored watching the movie. I was really looking forward to being entertained but I wanted to scream, I was so bored and pissed off. And the 'get away from her' line, jesus 🙄 I thought the Andy character was awful, I was actually embarrassed. I'm done with going to the cinema, been disappointed for years and I think it's not aimed at me anymore, which is sad but true. Thanks lads, glad you're still enjoying the cinema experience ❤

I'd definitely pick the Alien franchise over the Terminator franchise. Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection are waaayyy better films than any Terminator film after Judgment Day. And I'd pick Jaws over Jurassic Park, too.

Less deaths because less crew, it's more Alien than Aliens. I liked that.

The fan service in Romulus was turned up to 9 and should have been a 7 - just have him say ‘get away from her’ - you don’t need the last two words. But I did enjoy it a lot overall and there was some good worldbuilding at the start too

"LEAVE MY SISTER ALONE" would have made a lot more sense thematically since they seemed to be exploring whether an android and human can see each other as family, but someone decided fan service was better. 🤡

I'm a huge, long-time fan of the Alien franchise. On the surface, it seems to be, but I've come to realize, this wasn't made for me. I didn't care for most of the characters, but I can get past that, What bothered me most was the beat down of fan service. I was so frustrated by the end of this movie. From the uncanny valley CGI bringing back a dead actor, the out of character lines that were shoe-horned from previous films (I counted 4 times), to recycling the climax of Resurrection with the New Born (which I have hated for 26 years)...The constant recycling all pulled me out of this story. I was just sad by the end of this, with the thought that all we have left is to recycle even the bad ideas. But again, this wasn't for me, the person that would feel this as an unabashed, unoriginal retread. It was an effort by Fede Alvarez, Ridley Scott, and Disney, using a Gen Z cast, to keep the property and all of the older movies, alive. The original movies...good or bad..were always a way to launch new, innovative film-makers. This was just an attempt to make sure the money printers don't stall. I would have completely enjoyed simply a well-done, stand-alone movie, that had compelling, well-developed characters, set against the backdrop of the Alien horror aspects. No problem with that. It doesn't have to take the big swings that Prometheus did (which I liked) for long time fans to enjoy, as long as it is well done. I just don't want to feel pandered to.

I always disliked that Resurrection ending but at least it was consistent with what that film was about thematically - it was an exploration of the horrors of cloning and how Ripley is half-alien and half-human so seen through that lens it does effectively explore that. Not saying it's a great sequel, but it is definitely saying its own thing that I didn't feel like Romulus really did.

Great show, lads. As an older fan who saw the original Alien in theaters as a young woman, I was relatively entertained by A:R, but the fan service lines of dialogue from the previous films were a bit much, and actually detracted from my enjoyment of the current film. (Didn't mind the inclusion of an artificially "resurrected" Ian Holm, loved that man.) The scariest thing to me was learning the Offspring was played by a real guy! Overall, the production was made to bring in a new generation of fans to the franchise, and it seems to have succeeded on that level, if box office receipts don't lie. Alien '79 is still my fav, but Tom, how could you have never watched Aliens? You must remedy that ASAP!

Not only is Alien my favorite franchise but I’ve always been in the love with the xenomorph so Alien Romulus played great for me because the Xenos have never looked better. The creature came a lot closer to resembling H R Gigers original design. While I do agree the next alien film needs to do something new and have a good narrative It’s hard for me to say I don’t need the xenomorph especially after seeing how good they can look with a perfect blend of practical effects and cgi. I personally felt they were threatening in this movie but I understand why some feel desensitized to the Xenos.

@@CinemaRules I love your channel so I’m hating having a grumble. 😞 I’d just watched Grace Randolph non spoiler and again she didn’t give it away. I live in the Isle of Man and we have 1 main cinema ‘complex’ which has just 2 screens so it isn’t possible for us to get to see new releases at the same time as everyone else were usually a couple of weeks behind and it’s so frustrating when people (I don’t mean this at you guys) think you ‘should’ have seen a film already if you were a ‘real’ fan. Not everyone has the same access. Ok I will shut up about it now. I really hope you both watch Alien 3 & Resurrection as i personally really rate them both.

Personally I just felt as though Prometheus was unnecessary because for me, I didn’t really need to know/cared to know about the origin of the Xenos and all the other grandiose ideas they were making. They’re…aliens. There can be world building within that species but going back and retroactively making shit for the sake of it just didn’t gel with me

I was hoping that at the end of the movie, the alien embryo that the woman was carrying would play a bigger part. I was hoping that they would put her in a pod and then she would be shot out into space and land on the same planet that took place in the aliens, and she would give birth to the queen.
