I still don’t know which MCU single fight scene is my favorite. As for my favorite large scale fight scene, it’s the Avengers VS Ultron’s army on the flying city of Sokovia. I have never seen something like it in my life and I still haven’t seen anything that surpasses that for me. 😀

With regards to the Captain Marvel debate. I can't say for everyone, but only for me. The reason why I went to the cinema, was that the movie was released on the 8th March 2019, Endgame, was April 26, 2019. The buzz was that Captain Marvel will have an important part in EndGame. In order to better understand who she is, I went to see Captain Marvel, knowing that there is no chance to it being released on Blu-Ray or Disney+ before EndGame. This was not the case with Ant Man and the Wasp, were both characters were allready introduced earlier and the sequal was realeased on July 6th, 2018 (well in advance of EndGames release).

For me, the success of Alien Romulus at the Box Office shows that a Metroid film is definitely still viable. I know it's not as well known as other videogame properties to the general audience, but it's still one of the biggest IPs that Nintendo has. The atmosphere is close enough to the Alien series, but different enough to be refreshing to new viewers. I really hope Nintendo considers a live-action film after The Legend of Zelda releases

John I really don't think your argument about inflation makes any sense at all. The literal definition of inflation is "the value of a dollar today is not worth the value of a dollar tomorrow". It's not a variable, it's a quantifiable measure of the difference in the value of money over time. That can be used in both box office AND budgets. Empire Strikes back made lower box office than a movie of that popularity today would make, but it also cost a fraction of the price at a budget of $30 million. That movie used cutting edge technology for that time, that budget today would be well over $100 million if adjusted. Economics 101

John's take on (not) adjusting for inflation when talking about box office has bugged me for a while. Classic case of being right in every way but the takeaway. All those variables are indeed in play, and so many of them are absolutely unquantifiable. That means that we should either 1) Just talk about whether movies make money and how they gauge the health of the industry, and ignore comparative "Billion Dollar Club" or "Highest Grossing of All Time" discussions because they are meaningless or 2) Adjust for the one variable we CAN quantify and remove: inflation.
@alexp601
@alexp601 23 күн бұрын
It does feel wrong though to just account for one variable and ignore like 10-15 others. I don’t have an answer for this but that does feel wrong
@bryancaswell236
@bryancaswell236 22 күн бұрын
@@alexp601 Yeah it's not the best, and I think the optimal solution is to move away from talking about this stuff cause it's meaningless. In the absence of that approach, though, we should account for all we can. 10-15 unquantifiable variables are no excuse to avoid 2-3 quantifiable ones.

52:34 obviously it was a much smaller point compared to the main ones but I have to agree with this, as someone who reads comics and is familiar with the numbers it felt weird and a little bit disingenuous hearing you state the current F4 run by Ryan North was doing bad by basing that off of one data point, one single issue released in June and attributing that to the entire series. Looking at the chart F4 #1 in 2022 was in fact top 5 and a majority of the series is in top 20 and top 30. I can also confirm that each month the top of the charts are filled with brand new #1-#10 because they sell better. That's why runs don't last as long anymore without being reset to #1, publishers want that boost. So F4 #20 being at 40 or whatever doesn't mean the series is doing bad, I'd guess almost 2 years in its midway through its run and will probably get a new writer and new #1 before the movie next summer so its natural to be in that spot. Also, do you know how many single issues come out in a month? How can top 50 be considered a bad thing?
@juleswinnfield616
@juleswinnfield616 23 күн бұрын
John often says that comic book readers are a very small percentage of the viewing audience, so him talking about the comics was a moot point. If FF had been in the top 5, John would have just said that comics don't mean anything when it comes to box office.
@robert_222
@robert_222 23 күн бұрын
@@juleswinnfield616 it is 100% a small segment of the audience and I agree with him in regards to the unlikelihood of it hitting $1 billion but it was weird of him to misrepresent the series as doing poorly based off of one monthly sales number. Taking the movie out of the conversation for a second, it just seems like a poor reporting decision to prove a point that he himself knows, doesn't matter because it's such a small percentage of the audience.
@Sonicifyouwanit
@Sonicifyouwanit 23 күн бұрын
@juleswinnfield616 on top of that how many comicbook readers of FF will see the movie? You know CB readers will avoid movies because the movies didn't do the comic justice or the movie isn't comic accurate.

@robert_222 his whole attempt at making a point seemed misguided and without purpose. Guardians was not a top selling comic before the movie, and look how that turned out. Even Iron Man wasn't a top selling book before the movie, but Justice League certainly was and look at those results.

But one thing Alien got a 100% right was the Dolby Atmos mix, been a while since a soundmix blew me away...this one hit it out of the park! Can't wait to fire it up at home when it comes out, I'd watch it again for the audio alone. If Fo...uhm 20th Century Studios can do it on this budget, why can't Disney get their audio **it together.
