I'm sorry, WHAT? You're telling me they tried to make a "purely logical therefore evil" moment with the android character and there choice was to have him take a HUGE risk keeping the door open until the last possible second before the facehuggers got through just so a team mate could get through the door in time...and they treated that like he's EVIL? He could have shut that door whenever he wanted, but he calculated the time it would take for his team mate to get through the door and timed the door to shut the second he got through and we're supposed to believe that's actually him BETRAYING his team? The _actual_ logical thing to do if he were evil would be to shut the door immediately and sacrifice his team mate so that there's _NO_ chance the Facehuggers get through, but he specifically took action to give the team mate a chance to survive

I'm seeing the film this Sunday. Sad to hear the EFAP gang werent into it. My expectations were already non-existent going in anyways. Not expecting quality on par with the first two films, but a decently okay guilty pleasure will suffice for me. Then again, they could be right and it's a giant turd. I'll know soon enough. Edit: finally saw the film, here are my thoughts. Really, my only complaints about the movie is that the Xeno doesn't have much of a presence as, say, the original film. Even when it wasn't on screen, you felt like it could pop out at any time. Even Aliens captured this feeling perfectly. In Romulus, the alien feels like an afterthought at times. I think this has to do with the characters, as well. There aren't really many you care about aside from Rain and Andy, which removes that tension of "anyone could be next" that the older films had. Seeing as Rain and Andy are the only characters the movie wants us to care about, we know the alien won't show up until at least the third act. In the first two films, you cared about them all. The movies go out of their way to make sure you care about them, and so that tension is strong and prominent from start to finish. The setting itself, Romulus Station, doesn't really have a lasting impression. It doesn't have the same character as the Nostromo, for example, where you remember every detail of that ship from its sounds to its aesthetic. Romulus Station, while having snippets of those things, feels a little more generic than a ship/station in the alien universe should. I liked the characters' cargo ship much more. Finally, the pacing. It's a weird mix of slow and too fast at times. It was okay, but I left the theatre feeling like they could've done more in the film, if that makes sense. I do love the new ideas they introduced, like the Facehuggers being blind and relying on sound and heat to acquire a target. The new addition of how a Xeno grows after bursting out of a chest was also really cool. The cinematography was great, as was the sound design and the music. The practical effects were amazing. All in all, Romulus is a guilty pleasure for me. It's not as great as the first two films, but it's not terrible, either. It's simply an okay movie, and that's fine with me. Thank you for attending my TED talk.

Damn… if Romulus is made for dumb people, what does that say about all the people who prefer Prometheus and think it’s the better movie? At least the characters in Romulus have an excuse for making bad choices being young, inexperienced, and completely out of their element. The characters in Prometheus on the other hand are supposed to be middle-aged professional experts, whom get killed off one-by-one by making some of the dumbest decisions imaginable. I know it’s not the highest bar, but I just - at the very least - wanted an Alien movie that was somewhat entertaining while not being quite as dumb and irritating as the previous 2, and that’s what Romulus was/is. Seriously, if it weren’t for all the unnecessary call-backs and stupid member-berries, this movie could’ve really been something special if it had just done its own thing and stood on its own feet.

Here’s the cold hard truth: Aliens & T2 should never exist. Why?! T2 should never exist because Skynet was officially defeated before the T-800 was sent, and the war itself was officially over after the T-800 was crushed. Which was even stated in the very beginning of the film’s opening credits that the FINAL BATTLE was being fought in the past. Sarah killing the Terminator ended the war. And btw, T1 is the only film where the time travel makes any logical sense since it’s following BTTF rules where time is linear. & Aliens should never exist because Ripley didn’t even have enough fuel nor coolant to even last the trip back to Earth. She was hoping to be picked up by the network after reaching the frontier within 6 weeks, and if her shuttle craft is completely covered in frost for being out in space for 57 years, then logically speaking that should mean all of the power expired. Which means, she’s dead. Especially when it’s completely covering all the electrical equipment. And both fuel & power especially for a shuttle craft of that size doesn’t last forever. You can’t have a functioning ship with organisms still alive for that long when that amount of frost covering the entire ship including the cryopod’s windscreen. That should imply that both her fuel & power completely dried up at some point, so, she’s definitely dead. Remember the shuttle craft in the film Pitch Black? That thing was a small sized ship which could only hold a few people and yet required 5 large fuel cells to function which is quite a lot of power. Call me a nerd, but, nerds wrote the original Alien and they hired artists who knew how to design things that were practical. Which is what happens when you don’t bring back the original writers, you loose the consistency. You see what I mean when people in the opposite side who defends these two films so blindly don’t think about these things whatsoever? These films have massive retcons, things being introduced that aren’t properly explained, copycat plot/structure, ignoring past rules while making up new ones, convoluted time lines, an ending that really should of created a paradox, constantly changing and/or adding things that were never originally intended, and downgrading the title character in ways that makes them no where near as strong or as consistent as how they were portrayed in their original introductions.
@tylerjames8054 ай бұрын
Okay if we’re going that far then The Dark Knight is a terrible film because Batman decides just stop being Batman after a few years like a total pussy completely contradicting the message of Batman Begins where Bruce wants to make this city better but he just gives up cause it’s too hard. Or how about Empire Strikes Back? Luke suddenly being able to do Force pulls and the empire defeating the rebels after having their big weapons blow up? You all defend the OG trilogy yet ignore that but you don’t care cause the story and characters are still good. In the first Terminator Skynet wasn’t defeated only that single Terminator had been defeated even in the first film they said that the war has only just begun. Really T2 makes sense in the way that they ACTUALLY go after Skynet itself before it’s even born. Aliens could easily just be explained that the ship was just picked up before the fuel ran empty. They never explicitly state that it was empty. This isn’t Pitch Black it doesn’t operate by the same rules. The ending in the first Alien is basically the same as the woman getting away in the truck from Leatherface. Alien is Jaws in space does that mean Brody in Jaws is technically dead? No because it’s the final shot the protagonist’s victory over the thing tormenting them. Yeah we can be super nitpicky about every single little detail that doesn’t make sense and completely ignore stuff like great characters but you know what that would do? Basically make every film ever made dogshit. I know you want to impress Mauler super duper hard but you’re reaching really hard here just to sound smart.

Despite my enjoyment of the sequels to both franchises, my defense of Alien 3 and my issues with Aliens/T2, I honestly would be perfectly fine in viewing both Alien & The Terminator as stand alone films. They’re both already perfect as single movies which should of never became a franchise. To me, there’s only ONE Alien film and only ONE Terminator film. No sequels, no prequels, no reboots, no action schlock, no corny one liners, no Liquid Metal, no Queen Alien or hive like mentalities, no multiple timelines, no endings that created a paradox, no repeating the same exact plot just with different styles & tone, none of that dumb shit that created this watered down formula. Just solid horror films in sci-fi settings that told a great solid story once & ONLY once, and was done by the end credits. Both Alien & The Terminator are lightning in a bottle and are both perfect by themselves.

I also think there is something insufferable about not being able to find any joy or entertainment in something. Complaining about every detail in everything all day seems like such a burden. Obviously it would be way less but you could nitpick the classics just as hard as you are doing here. (Why does the crew keep going off by themselves, why didn’t they seal off parts of the ship, etc) I despise the new Star Wars movies.
