Yes they can find big chap because if they have tech to travel space then for sure they have advanced navigation systems to detect any debris so they don't collide into it. Also big chap will make noise and movement they can detect. Plus remember they intercepted Ripley's spaceship in alien 3. For all we know big chap could still be clinging onto the spaceship or hijacked another ship passing by. So there's a lot of reasons why big chap survived.

It's utterly ludicrous to suggest that WY would have the technology to find a specific 8ft long object in deep space - even if they knew to look for it - whilst at the same time completely overlooking the derelict with thousands of eggs on board on a planet they surveyed and settled for terraforming. Also - they didn't intercept Ripley's ship in Alien 3 - Ripley was ejected from the Sulaco in an escape pod following a fire - which subsequently crash landed on Fury 161.

Hard pass. The queen was ejected from the sulaco while in the gravity well of LV-426, and likely the gas giant. If she doesn't burn up in either of those atmospheres, she'd likely pancake upon hitting the surface.

No these aliens are very hardy and can survive in deep space and even burning up. Remember in alien 3 they could even survive molten lava so no burning up as they can survive anything.

I always thought that was a very likely outcome too. But it's possible that the queen was propelled away from the planet and entered a state of hibernation over time. It could be cool to explore the idea so long as it was done right and didn't make things overly convenient.

@@loganw6156 True - but it wouldn't be a massive retcon to suggest that the self destruct mechanism malfunctioned perhaps due to damage caused by the xenomorph, the face hugger's acid - or even sabotage by Ash. It kinda fits with what we saw on screen in Alien. There wasn't a single explosion, but rather three. Two small ones and then a final very large one with debris. This could be indicative of a malfunction. The first smaller explosions blew the drive unit clear - then the final explosion was the refinery and it's contents going up. It'd certainly be easier to believe than finding a lone xenomorph just floating in the vastness of space.

@cityhunter665 the nostromos flight recorder was recovered they said it in Aliens. Maybe they were looking around the area with bioscanners and honed in on it. It's a pretty big stretch but it is possible. It was an idea from even before Cameron was on board for aliens. So in a way it's really nothing new but it's just kind of far fetched IMO

I recall a moment when I was in my teens , whilst perusing the sci-fi section of a book store, when a young couple happily traded barbs about their tastes in authors. A statement uttered from the woman has stayed with me to this day where she stated "I like science in my science fiction". While conceding previous movies give credence to (at least immediate) survival in space I am reticent to suspend my disbelief and accept a world where any living being, even one so hardy, can overcome an extended period in space. Conditions in such an environment include not just exposure to an absolute vacuum, but also extreme temperatures, exposure to meteorites, along with exposure to radiation. I'd be far more accepting of a queen surviving the depths of an ocean, for example, the queen from "Alien versus Predator" than one ejected into space but perhaps I am asking too much from script writers who unboundedly reject the basic requirement to, in a most basic way, include "science in their science fiction".

The eggs were laid by the Queen so that means the Queen is still there but may have died from lack of food. There's literally nothing to eat there. Before Queen died she laid bunch of eggs but without a host they all died so only big chap survived.

Two things mildly related to point out. 1) The intro to AvP is designed to look like the Alien Queen in space after Aliens and turns out to be a satellite's spines. That was well done. 2) If xx121 can survive in space it can also survive in water, meaning there's a queen under the Antarctic somewhere still chained to a water tank. Again from AvP. There's rather a few comments involving the Acheron Queen having been sucked into the moons gravity, though that would depend on how low the orbit of the Sulaco was - which we assume was low but may not have been. Ok, having just re-watched the Aliens airlock scene again, and understanding a little of physics hopefully, I'm saying that the Queen was NOT sucked into Acherons gravity as the camera angle doesn't show Acheron directly beneath it. Because, obviously, space is a vacuum, even mid/low orbit, an object will go in the direction given by the force that was last imparted on it. In this case, potentially waaaayyy out there in open space. So she's still alive, but the odds of finding her would be literally astronomical.

Regarding the Nostromo…in any event where the crew deliberately turn the cooling units off to detonate the ship. An automatic precaution would be to dump the computer mainframe and eject it from the ship, before detonation. This module would contain the flight recorder plus any residual information that the computer mainframe would have, including a homing beacon. You could find the derelict Alien ship with this information. I think this would be cooler and more plausible than finding the big chap floating in space.

The Big Chap got spaced a considerable distance from LV-426 so he was just floating around. The he Queen got spaced while they were still in orbit so I figured even if she survived vacuum, she would eventually burn up in whatever atmosphere LV-426 had left or eventually go splat

Yeah, that aliens can survive in vacuum - possibly indefinitely - was pretty well-accepted fan conjecture. The assumption was that it is in part to their unusual metabolism/biochemistry. As for the Alien Queen...Considering the Dropship did fall downward after detaching from Sulaco, it seems Sulaco was not actually orbiting LV-426 and the Queen would likely fall onto the planet and end up a bug splatter.

Maybe they found the Big Chap right after the events of Alien. This just makes sense because mother was nearly always in contact with Wayland Yutani. So if they found it right after the events they could easily take 20 years for their researches and the whole back engineering. Maybe the big chap was at this time around alive I doubt that it will be when the main protagonists arrive at the Romulus station. But maybe a more menacing one waits for them...

My guess on how they find Big Chap would be the company focusing on the last point the Nostromo was at before detonation and then scanning all the possible trajectories of any escape craft, in this case the Narcissus then scanning those areas of space.

That's a massive area given the speed of the Nostromo at the time (faster than light speed) - all the possible trajectories the Narcissus could have taken - plus the fact it may also have been blown off it's original trajectory by the explosion. Then you have to factor the trajectory the xenomorph and Narcissus took after Ripley fired the engines in an unplanned and uncalculated burn. You'd be talking a search area many cubic light years in size - to find a dark life form 8ft long that doesn't even show up on infrared.

I think the movie probably is about the xenomorph from the first alien movie(which was blown outer in space). Probably the Romulus spaceship picks it up,unaware of what it is and then gets infected till all but one is killed and then the person shots itself out in an emergency pod ? Allmost like the first movie over again ? When will we see something new ?

In alien where they found the original "egg" the room was immense and could had many other rooms and many Queens. In aliens it could be only one of many others as the Jockey spaceship in very large, another queen or "queen face hugger" could hide in any ship going out from LV426.

In Aliens vs Predator material, Xenomorphs are seen on a kind of electromagnetic vision mode in the predator visor. Therefore Weyland-Yutani may simply be able to scan the area for odd electromagnetic signatures to pinpoint the location of the big chap and the queen.

The Queen was shot out relatively early out of the ship, so doesn't that mean that she just got sucked into the moons atmosphere and burned up? There's no logical reason it would just float away into space, when they were that close to the moon

I'd prefer it if in Romulus they get the face huggers from a queen, than reverse engineering them. We could also get them from the method shown in the deleted scene of Alien, where humans can be mutated into eggs.

I really don’t see a need why the "Big Chap" should be in Alien: Romulus…same with the queen that was ejected into space at the end of Aliens. There are tons of eggs inside the Derelict on LV-426 that Weyland-Yutani could have secretly removed a few of before Hadley‘s Hope was built & used for further experiments, leading to the events of Alien: Romulus and Alien: Isolation. They knew the location anyway.

I think that the xeno, could of just been frozen in outer space, as it drifts around it a cryo- state? I also think the queen from the first A V P, has to be alive, and maybe frozen in the Antarctica?

@@aikighostNot in the films. The flamer can scare Big Chap away but it doesn’t harm it. In 3 the Alien survive getting buried under tons of hot lead. It is so dark hot it explodes when cooled down with water.

I'm curious if they explain HOW they found BigChap at all. It's not easy to track something so tiny with unknown trajectory floating in cold space with no heatsignature or any accurate timestamps for calculations. The Spaceballs Method won't work here... if they come up with a logic explanation, that would be awesome for the movie.

Interesting take. I would say it’s plausible that the Queen is still alive, not certain. She could have fallen into the planet’s gravity well and died during re-entry. Her trajectory could have propelled her toward another space body or even the star of that solar system. We simply don’t know.
